Morelets crocodiles are not very saline tolerant...but the American crocodile is very saline tolerant (about the same as the actual saltwater crocodile which lives in Australia & Asia.) The name "saltwater crocodile" is misleading since both Crocodylus acutus & Crocodylus porosus only use the ocean as a means of travel and, on rare occasions, feeding. They prefer the tidal river systems and river mouths and can be found hundreds of miles upstream in freshwater as well.
All crocs have a tolerance for salt water but only two of the 23 species of crocs have a preference for a habitat with some degree of salinity. C. Pourus the Indio Pacific Crocodile and C. Acutus the American Crocodile are both true esturine or saltwater crocodiles and are the two largest verified crocs species on earth. Mexico is home to the American crocodile as well as Morlett's Crocodile.
Why you all people think that the only places in the world with crocs are the US, Australia, and Africa. You all seems so stupid talking like specialists, when you have no idea of what you are talking about.
wrong! I have travelled thru the inner south of Cancun and have met with beautiful saltwater lakes with crocodiles in abundance!!! Almost run over one!
The crocs that we have in mexico specially in cancun have tolerance for saltwater, they can live either on saltwater lagoons like the nichupte lagoon or they can live on fresh water.
their name is "COCODRILO MORELETTI" look it up brother.

That's kinda odd considering saltwaters are only ever found in Australia/India/Pacific Islands :O
Dunno how they'd manage to swim all the way to Mexico, heh.

I was referring to the 'Saltwater/Esturaine Crocodile' - the largest crocodilian subspecies in the world - which DON'T live in Mexico.
You may have crocodiles that are TOLERANT to saltwater, but they aren't Estuarine crocs, brother.
