  • I thought of a wind turbine with a pop-up mechanism,to be used when the car is still(relatively easy to do).Thus,it can recharge when the car is standing,and does not create useless drag.It can be relatively small in size,and it could power auxiliary systems(lights/sensors) etc.

And for everyone who thinks, "yeah it might not run it for ever but it will charge the batteries" No it wont, it will do the very opposite, look at the size of those fans, they must be creating some serious drag, the amount of power generated will never meet the need to propel the car its cancelled out by drag

  • Your car would end up using more power. Let the car be your control volume. Momentum decreases for the control volume as air gets decelerated in opposite direction. The power you generate will also decelerate the car using the same power to create drag

    You can see the uploader comments section just below this video "EV Talk - Episode 04 - Perpetual Motion" on YouTube. He tells why this wind idea will not work If such a car was possible, it would also be possible to replace the engine with a motor run by the generated wind energy and (if all wind energy is utilized by the motor) the car would run without any energy supply. It would be a perpetual motion machine!

  • @cris23dumi That is the whole point. When air loses velocity, since momentum is conserved, the car should decelerate. It is the principle of conservation of momentum applied to a system of two bodies (air and car) along x direction. If the car was fixed, it would generate power, if wind is itself not generated by relative velocity so that it is by weather conditions like in ships with sails, the idea would have been right.

  • Fail. The increase in drag is more than the energy generated. You could extend the range by taking the wind turbines off.

    At best they might collect some wind energy while the car is stationary.

  • @cris23dumi Sorry, what you are talking about is magic, not science. Look up the law of the conservation of energy. You will alway USE more energy to move the car then you will GENERATE from the wind you create, because the generators are only at best 80% effecient at converting mechanical energy to electricity. Losses in friction, magnetic reactance and electrical resistance prevent this. BTW: the laws of physic didn't say that man couldn't fly. But they do fly in the face of this hoax.

  • @cris23dumi Apply reynolds transport theorem and it can be realized that energy only gets redistributed. Its like adding a reverse propeller to a ship to generate power and then realizing that it only slows down the ship. (A kaplan turbine is a reverse propeller and so are all other turbines that do the work of a reverse propeller)

  • @cris23dumi Hey. If you replace glass or engine space with a turbine (more like a partially closed tube), that would be a Great way to decrease drag and generate power, but if you replace an empty space with a turbine, it is going to increase drag. :-)

  • What morons! Once again, you can't make a perpetual motion machine. You don't get something for nothing. You always loose energy converting one form of energy to another. Plus the added air resistance causes you to loose more energy than if you didn't have the fans.

  • This will work. The wind created by driving generates electricity that is, in turn, sent to the electric panel and sends that electricity to the batteries, creating free energy, and less pollution to the Earth. The only downside to this is that if you're driving slowly or stopping, you're wasting more battery power that generating it. You would have to rely on driving on freeways all the time just to generate power again, but I think there will a method that stops that, like a treadmill.

  • Nuclear powerplants do lots of wind tunnel tests for things that may break of and get sucked into the turbine , very mega costly if something did in more ways than one.

    So why not use their research at their expense .

    Different shaped items in the wind tunnels will help you with your contouring of the car .Best shapes etc .

    You cant get away from that fact.

  • You have power already - you have momentum already - the vehicle is moving already - now you are using that power to regenerate more power in more than 1 way - several ways in fact .

    A vehicle uses more energy to set off - fair enough - but once in a higher gear , less effort is used to keep it there .

    Maybe that end of the spectrum is where we can regenerate more power than we use , using more than 1 way to do so at the same time - charging dozens of industrial size super batteries .

  • Wind re-generation is only 1 part of a power supply .

    To have a vehicle to have comletely no cost for fill up you shouldn't be relying on just one recycling power in the first place -but a group of different ways to re-generate power - wind - solar - dynamo's - gear's - maybe using the power from the wheels to regenerate - it is spinning . . .

    using all and perfecting your own system and hopefully you will never have to fill up again . . .

  • I reckon the fans are to regenerate more electricity as the car is moving refilling the batteries on the go so that no power is wasted .

    The car is already moving from the battery that is already full so why not use its motion to create more electricity and thus refilling the battery via wind power?

    (The battery will use power and create power simutaneously keeping the battery full )

    But i doubt the efficiency .U Have anything to share bout it?

  • @musicshanky once a vehicle is moving and has gained momentum is the key factor - harvesting from "that" power to re-fuel on the go so to speak is the ideal goal.

    placing turbines where grill usually is at the front of the car should give you the most air force against the turbines .

    most air force on a car is on the front facia - like facing into the wind .

    also a safer place for all - behind a grill.

    you could also funnel the air to channel it into the fans to create no loss of air flow.

  • @dantheman012008 .. thnx for your verdict on that...actually we were trying to do the streamlining of the car in a manner that we obtain maximum wind velocity to the top of the car and utilize that by placing turbines over the car...but that was kinda foolish attempt as we were adding the frontal air resisting area on the car and hence were wasting power to overcome that drag by the extra area over the car, rather than tapping power...

  • Fantastic! I think they should add another rack of turbines though, the more the better, as long as the car will still fit under low bridges.

    Plus, think of how many mosquito's and flies it will pulverize as it is driving. When there are millions of these on the roads we can probably eliminate the spread of malaria from mosquito's.

    I would also imagine tornado chasers would love this technology.

  • How about putting down a 5th wheel with an electric generator on it to charge the batteries? That is in effect what this is. It will not work You cant use the cars forward motion to drive a generator to move it forward.

    The blades cause more wind drag than power they create for the battery.

  • if this was possible you could disconnect the batteries when the car is in movement. It makes this and the car stop soon, because the energy of turbines is less to the energy necessary to move the car (I used a traductor online)

  • Great idea, but your turbines are limited to vehicle speed, unless it's windy. You should siphon excess electricity to drive a primary stage fan that will speed up the secondary generators. In fact, you could drive and produce electricity which could go back into the power grid through RF wireless transfer.

  • I can see this work, just reshape the blades to reduce drag and attached to generators designed with less resistance. Also miniturize and fit under the skin of the car. Also you can get energy from the shocks and should be able to pick up a little bit of power from the air from the electro magnetic static caused by power lines and radio/tv signals. Add solar cells to the skin of the car.

  • Using v-belts in the drive system is a loss in efficiency. Generating power in itself is a loss in efficiency. Pushing extra wind is a loss in efficiency. Storing energy in a battery is a loss in efficiency - not to mention other losses in efficiency such as cornering, bumps, hill climb/weight factors, acceleration/weight factor, etc... So where are you getting the extra power to make up for all of these and other losses in efficiency?

  • Wind turbine which charge the batteries while the car is parked is a great idea. But while driving?

    Why not just drive the generators with a belt connect to the front wheel, it would be simpler and have the same result (wasted energy).

  • thats cool the wind generator fan recharged the battery when its moving .thus the battery keep recharging even you use the electric car.so you dont have to recharged the battery at all.so the battery never runs out of electricity when ur using it .brilliant..

  • I'm thinking of shifting the rotating generators to Humdinger windbelt generators and also the wind is cooling up to about 30 degree C. and if you get the fullecell´s heat into that circuit its up to 100 degree C. so you have a temperature difference that can be used also to generate Power

  • Nice thinking i´m working on that idea since 8 years ,and i have some advice for you .Channel the wind like an impeller or in other words build housing for the Propellers beside you should use big ring-fans placed in the roof front below the car and in the trunk beside ..if you direct the wind flow to the outside you get much more force that you need to start up and than shift the wind to the inside what gives you much more rotation speed of the turbines (works on standing wind turbines also)
