For my part, I recognize that this is a local story, but I wish that our western media would release pieces such as this more prominently. Perhaps americans would then put more pressure on our leadership for legitimate dialogue.
There is a double standard applied to the american people. When middle eastern nations are discussed, the leaders are at fault. But when america is discussed, the people are accused. Please understand that the american political system and media is far more complicated than is recognized abroad. it is doubtful that it is representative of most americans. Like most, we simply want to provide for our families and improve our lot in life.
Iran is destabilizing the middle east now even beyond the destabilization that exists there already. Meddling in Lebanon, meddling in Palestine, meddling in Iraq. The minority shiite moslems of Iran are definately playing with fire, and ultimately will be burned. Not just by the United States, but by the sunni populations of the surrounding Islamic countries. Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt will all combine to tar and feather the Ayatollahs.
Iran may support the Palestinian authority, it is allowed to do support a democratically elected government.the Lebanese parliament is the biggest joke of a democracy you can come across. Saudi and Egypt may want to feather the ayatollahs, but their just puppet regimes propped up by the US and Britain, and not the choice of the people.
Do you think the choice of the people would be to have a despotic government?
I am sort of muslim myself, more like Turkish sunni muslim. I think the Turks and the Tatars tolerate the shiites more than most sunnis in the world. The shiites are a small minority of Islam, and believe in things most muslims scoff at. I don't think the Sunni Islamic world would allow Shiite Iran to dominate.
The truth is, most Muslim countries would prefer the Iranian nuke to the Israeli nuke, end of story. And the Sunni/Shiite divide isn't as big as your trying to make out, 1in6 Muslims are Shiite. Muslim all believe in the same foundations, so please cut the crap.
I hope Americans learn not to meddle in internal politics of other countries. If you wanted to destablise the region by attacking Iraq you would have done so...oh wait you have.
Americans do not meddle in the internal politics of other countries except, over time, the internal politics of Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Korea. In each instance there was more than sufficient justification for being there.
You forgot to mention (former)Yugoslavia, Bolivia, Somalia, Kenya, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt,Pakistan...should i really go on? Oh wait i missed out the most obvious one..Chili, and the old dictator Augusto Pinochet. wow you are quite a stupid being arn't you?
Iran meddles (tries to influence) Syria, Iraq, Palestine through the use of Hizbollah and Hamas. There are few countries in the world with the resources or the will to help people like the United States has been able and willing to do. This will probably come to an end soon, as the US is now in decline. Rejoice, you will win ultimately, but what you win will be much less than what you could have had.
Which part of America's drive for survival and willingness to intervene on behalf of the world's people, at great cost to America in terms of life and treasure, don't you understand? Who else could do it? If you prefer tyranny, despotism, dictatorships over freedom and democracy, that is your right. America thinks most people of the world would prefer freedom and liberty and peace.
Im afraid the picture isn't as rosy as you think. I wouldn't have had a problem if American meddling in other countries was souly for the people benefit. But most the time the intervention serves as booster to American interests, and not the other countries interest. ....which part of Augusto Pinochet, was a benefit to the the Chilean people.
I don't know much about Pinochet. I think the American media portrayed him as a bad guy for a long time. What was the alternative to Pinochet at the beginning. America always backed the most likely successful candidate. who was NOT communist, in the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s and to this very day I think..
The Iranian people use every oppurtinity to protest agains this regime, the fule rationing just a couple months ago but unfortunately due to the strestfull and busy life in iran where 40 percent of poeple are below poverty range but dispite all these issue the youth generation specially the acedemic levels are the most inteactuall and the bravest in iran and the ones who would make a different in iran some day.
Instead of going to another war and killing all these innocent people, why don't you support another inventive revolution like you did in Shah's time?!!! Seems like some people are just thirsty to shed blood!
We DO work on the revolution again. But, the Ayatollahs there make it difficult to sneak in even a little mouse. The police state in Iran is very tight.

I hope Iran can overthrow her oppressive dictatorship government before America has to act.
America is not interested in killing Iranian civilians, just as we are not interested in killing Iraqi civilians.
If we wanted to kill Iraqi civilians, there wouldn't be any left alive.

I did forget to mention them ALL. I thought you would get the gist. (Is gist part of your vocabulary?)
Each country on earth tries to influence her neighbors politics and her trading partners politics. Hadn't you heard?
TAMARLANE 4 years ago
Notice you said "neighbors", which part of the middle east, Africa or Latin America have boarders with the US?
I astounded by how many countries the US can meddle in, breaking international law and usually going against the wishes of the people.

The world is very small now. Hadn't you noticed?
