  • you guys make be feel like a baby. this performance happened before I was born =(

  • Sutherland is a miracle, the rest is just that, the rest.

  • by the way, this is the end of act 1 (not 2).

  • I was at this performance. The miracle of Sutherland's opulent, passionate, ravishing and unforced voice filling the War Memorial Opera House and its immediacy on the ear cannot be approximated by this recording. The legendary Horne/Sutherland partnership was in all its glory, and Dame Joan's last act was a thrilling tour de force. I sat next to the taciturn Tony Randall, who joined the instantaneous standing ovation.

  • The recording itself is not the greatest and Mauro is no Pavarotti, but the brilliance of Sutherland and Horne still manage to shine through.

  • @meltzerboy Ah, but Mauro was a bigger voiced tenor who could do things Pavarotti couldn't...

  • Hearing a live performance always shows the sheer size of those high notes!

  • my favorite aria from norma, thanks for the post!!! remus

  • I had planned to attend these performances....but got ill. I always regretted missing these last really great Normas with Sutherland and Horne. Thanks for the post, it's nice to hear a lil something.

  • The only thing that would be able to keep me from such a preformance is if i was in a Coma.

  • I had an appendicitis.....and developed gangrene.

  • Ah... well there you go that would be a good reason... It would have killed me to miss such a preformance.

  • Sutherland and Horne make the BEST soprano/mezzo duo ever!
