i love to write but i can never make my stories long enough and i dnont think their good i have an idea in my head but when it gets on paper its not what i was hoping for

Are you kidding me? How can you write well without absorbing good writing? PS Twilight is AWFUL writing, maybe that why your attitude is so awful. :D just trying to help.
Reading is absolutely necessary to your development as a writer, for the same reasons you had to hear and listen to other people talk before you could learn to talk back. Passion for writing comes from your own love of words and your need to say something, whatever it may be... even if you don't know what it is yet. If you aren't at all passionate about reading, writing probably isn't for you either.
For me, it's easy to create characters, but what's harder is getting the locations perfect. So far i've got into reading a lot of different types of books. Alot of them don't beat Harry Potter, but that's good because i'm learning what not to do when writing a story; like, for instance, what makes a good narrative, plot line, etc? Just look for as many books as possible that you might be interested in and analyse them.
