Then pray tell what is it about Japan that so attracts western teens and adults alike, if it is so "unoriginal"... if modern Japanese culture is a "rip-off" of western culture, then why is it so apealling to so many people worldwide?

People from the West can relate to Japanese culture precisely because it is so closely related to Western culture. If the originality of a culture made it more popular with other cultures, then China would be winning that game. China invented everything important, and China retains a truly unique culture, even under globalizing influences. There are many other isolated cultures that are really "unusual" compared to the West... but they don't get the attention Asia does.

You seem to misunderstand what a "rip-off" is, and what "influence" is... when Japan modernized, it used the west as a model, so obviously there is a relation between western culture and modern japanese culture... but that does not qualify it as a rip-off... this level of proximity between modern Japan and the west does help westerners relate more easily, but in no way is it only a "cheap imitation"...

I said nothing more than that Japanese and Western culture are closely related. I was replying to comments about Japanese being "unoriginal," but I never called them anything. The issue is more of a grey area than saying they did or did not rip someone off.
