Please do not twist Life to mean the blind making of humans that no one wants to take care of until they come back from war in a flag draped casket.

Your list assumes that we don't care about these issues. You are wrong. The majority of charity in this country comes from conservatives. School choice in particular has been a conservative issue for some time. Where we disagree is who should supply the charity. Liberals think it is the Governments Job. We feel it is the private sector through non-profit organizations, Churches, Synagogues, and Mosques. The government wastes too much money and is to inefficient.

You mean school segregation? Brown vs. Board of Ed mandated Separate and Unequal to be illegal, but education funding even at the local level is just that. Government's role is restricted to what is list in the constitution. Therefore the Government is suppose to wage war against those would would cause us harm. I am not an advocate of war but we would be naive to think war is sometimes necessary to protect ourselves and our way of life. Otherwise we'd all be speaking Japanese. Government should do those thing that private individuals can not do or what the states can not do. Education should be done locally not nationally.

The short answer is that conservatives and liberals see a different function for the Federal government. It does not mean we don't care about the same issues we just believe it is the private sectors job-no profits, churches, etc that should feed the poor, create jobs and other acts of benevolence. The Feds were never supposed to do that. The government is too big to be effective. We suggest that it was never intended to fight poverty or improve education. That is our job!

I understand the constitution leaves out education. I support an Amendment for a Just Education for All Americans founded in science and reality and national standards. Local education by far has left most American children behind. As a child I was afforded a DOD education and found it to be very adequate. I believe that if people want to teach their children what ever, go for it, but there are many and plenty American children who find only the military or prison as options.

@wmg2005 And with national standards comes comprehensive sex education, from Abstinence to learning how to protect oneself in the event that one does not become a nun, monk, or priest. If we fund education like we do Defense, i.e, there is not one uneducated nuclear warhead, personal responsibility would be a no brainer, because people would have been properly, emotionally/socially, attended to and prepared for this responsibility. But American children are not seen as a resource, but for war.
