Animal Collective have been active since 2000. El Guincho's first album came out in '07. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love both El Guincho and Panda Bear, but you guys really can't deny the Panda Bear influence.

its silly to compare these artists who are both using samples from pre-recorded music. AC did not create that sound, but have gotten famous for it, El Guincho used the technique, but in a clearly different format. that's like saying led zeppelin and black sabbath are the same because they use guitars. enjoy both those artists, and forward moving progressive music, the "ripped off" argument is very immature and not of this modern music world.

Should it even matter who came first? Panda Bear or El Guincho? Personally, I think the similarities are very minute and coincidental. In an age such as ours, a lot of music tends to sound similar. Getting bogged down in a historic Sex Pistols vs. Ramones-type of discussion causes us to miss the point of entirely. Let artists be artists and stop analyzing things. Enjoy the damn music!

Don't get me wrong I don't think there's anything wrong with having influences, but everything about El Guincho screams that he's a completely affected Panda Bear rip off, right down to his stage performance and of course the music itself. The songs are OK, but I can't get past how much of a blatant copy cat he is. The guy is either shameless or oblivious and I don't ever see myself ever not being bothered by that.

Actually, El Guincho's album came out in March of 2008 (look it up if you want) and AC were playing Brothersport a good year before that, which everyone was pretty much going nuts over.

If you look on Youtube you can find clips of AC playing it as far back as May 2007, ten months before El Guincho dropped this turd in their mouth. And then of course there's the fact that the two songs are pretty much, you know, the same damn thing. Dumbass.

I do see the comparisons to Brother Sport but you need to chill out MBArkestra. While I like your Sun Ra refence, I would not expect such closed mindedness and filth from an AC fan. I totally agree with godmerryolsen. to me it does sound like a lot of the artists out of the tropicalia movement. AC is more sound oriented. I wouldn't go as far as to say that AC is any less natural or more forced as strangefruit put it. AC is just doing what feels good to them. To me their progression seems completely natural. People need to focus less on comparisons and more on the music itself. Can't they both make music in peace without having to be subjected to other people's associations?
