It's not that Arnel is filipino. It's how Schon, Cain, Rolory turned their back on Steve Perry. It was a time where he need hip surgery and their support. Reading through it and playing the cd at the same time, you will get to know more about the band, their past albums like Arrival, Generations,Frontiers, etc. In REVELATION, Arnel made this his own without going out of Journey/SP legacy.
Well, it's up to him whether he'd want to come back or not. That's HIS prerogative. Not anyone else's. I, for one, have no problem even if he wanted to stay retired. He has done so much for Journey and its fans when he was active, and that's why he was literally burned out by the business. Obviously, he has a very high standard to himself, and I'm sure that's why he didn't put out the new material frequently. Now there's a news that he'll release a new CD soon. Shouldn't we all be excited?
Many reasons have been stated but the most prominent being his voice has changed too much from his younger days and he can no longer sing the high octaves he used to. Whether or not the injury was real or made up, most believe he used the hip injury as an excuse to indefinitely postpone the tour.

Poeple aren't looking to die-respect. I just think that the singer, bassist, drummer... all play a role so why do the singers get all the credit. Schon may be the best melodic rocj guitarist ever and Cain's writing (Faithfully, Open Arms etc...) it was a team effort.
Sure, it was a team effort. Any team or band is. But one thing we should realize is, if Steve Perry hadn't joined Journey in 1978, Journey would've remained as just a Bay Area local band we wouldn't even know existed. Therefore, it's safe to say it was Perry who has paved the road for other guys to do what they're doing now. Yes, there was a Journey before Perry, but there wouldn't be a Journey that we know of without Perry. We the fans and the current members of the band owe it all to him.
perryzgal- After reading your comments I wonder why you are here. Pineda has a great voice. I read Herbert's interview about at the Bill Graham memorial how they had to key down like 4 times and Perry sounded terrible. He said he warned Neal before TBF that Perry had no intention of touring at all.
I love the new singer. No offense against Aguri or Soto but they just didn't seem to give off the same charisma as Perry or Pineda. It just feels right again...although yes I wish Perry was with them but that has come and gone. Go Pineda!
All I want to hear from these Pineda-backers is some respectful words for Steve Perry like, "Thank you, Steve, for your legacy and the unparalleled musical achievements. We owe it all to you that we're able to enjoy the music of Journey, and we can even listen to your signature songs through different singers, who carry on your legacy..." I apologize for lumping you in! Agree to disagree! I love JRNY too, I just love JRNY the way I remember it, the way I grew up with it, the way it was a soundtrack to my life! That is special to me and other SP fans. That is why nobody should sing the songs made famous by and made so special to us by SP. Does that make sense! Go on with a new band and all new songs! I dont know him personaly,he goes to school in the town I live in here in Florida,he just graduated with a degree in animation,yes,he has become a man, he is a rare counter tenor , He is an amazing vocalist,and just like everyone with talent on youtube,he has had to deal with lots of crap from people who dont know enough about counter tenors to have a justified opinion, but my point is,anyone with a great talent gets dumped on here,why? because we judge what we hear,not what we know! I will remind you of David Coverdale, who did do damage to his voice and had to go to speech terapy for some time! Whitesnake did not drop him. My poin is NOT that NY dropped SP due to his voice, yea, they did that to the other Steve! I am simply saying that the voice is a hell of a lot more delicate than the fingers that play an instrument. He needed to rest. I simply prefer JRNY with SP. PERIOD! I hated all of the other replacements, and the same goes for AP!

Of course SP can't hit the high notes anymore, nobody could after abusing their voice for so long! AP can't him them now! That doesn't mean he can't sing. It is not like he had the common cold, one day he had it and now it is gone. Not at all. The tears in my opinon were alligator tears to make us feel sorry for him. Well, we all have a very tough road, some tougher than others. Frankly (hate to bring SP in this) but his road has been really tough with the loss of his mom, his own health, Neal stabbing him in the back... However, AP's tears will NOT get me to buy, listen to, or attend any concert. Hell, I can do that at a local fair! As far as Neal is concerned, as he put it, "F*** him!" Even if SP wanted to sing with Journey again, he would have to key his voice down so much that the songs would sound ridicoulus! and he knows this and has known it for years. And how long do you think SP's voice would last if he did a tour now? mabye 2 or 3 shows tops! It would end up being a nightmare for him,thats(partly) why he will never sing with Journey again. Perhaps they had no hits before Perry because they were a progressive jazz-fusion band? They were about to be dumped, so they hired Perry, changed their musical sound, and became successful. After Perry left in 98, they kept on with the sound that made them successful. But..this isn't the 80's anymore? Is it?

nealkang - Augeri was better? Even on the 2001 DVD (the one he sang over in 2008) he had to falsetto the notes. Pineda is an amazing talent and for anyone to argue otherwie is beyond me unless people are just xenophobic.

Just because Pineda can jump and scream better than Augeri doensn't mean he's better than him as a singer. I think Augeri sang with a much richer soul in certain songs than Pineda, such as in Loved By You in Arrival album. There's just no depth and substance in Pineda's singing because he's just too busy trying to sound like somebody else.
Give it up guys ... Steve Perry is enjoying his retirement. Most probably he's sitting comfortably on his sofa right now, either watching Chicago White Sox game or watching the DVD Journey concert in Las Vegas from their "REVELATION" album package! I listened to their Rockline interview and they even took phone Q&A and what I heard are all praises for the group specially Arnel and they are mix callers mostly probably American fans. It is not hard to like Arnel because he has such a good character, Mr. Nice Guy, very down to earth person.

Journey's absolutely NOTHING without those classic hits. In fact, they can't even tour without them, and that's a fact!!!

I love what is happening with my JOURNEY right now with Arnel Pineda. Their soldout concerts were great, people are lovin' em. Their new album REVELATION is a gem. Great new songs! I love SP and I miss him but, I love the rest of the band too! I love Neal for his unbelievable guitar playing, I love Jon for his great compositions, I love Deen for his out of this world drumming, and Ross on bass. The question is, do I want them to stop producing great music and stop touring simply because Steve didn't want to anymore??? Should they just sit on their ass and stop what they love to do??? Hell no!!! The show must go on for the fans - the real JOURNEY fans!!!!

Reading through it and playing the cd at the same time, you will get to know more about the band, their past albums like Arrival, Generations,Frontiers, etc. In REVELATION, Arnel made this his own without going out of Journey/SP legacy.

Well, it's up to him whether he'd want to come back or not. That's HIS prerogative. Not anyone else's. I, for one, have no problem even if he wanted to stay retired. He has done so much for Journey and its fans when he was active, and that's why he was literally burned out by the business. Obviously, he has a very high standard to himself, and I'm sure that's why he didn't put out the new material frequently. Now there's a news that he'll release a new CD soon. Shouldn't we all be excited?

Many reasons have been stated but the most prominent being his voice has changed too much from his younger days and he can no longer sing the high octaves he used to. Whether or not the injury was real or made up, most believe he used the hip injury as an excuse to indefinitely postpone the tour.

Sure, it was a team effort. Any team or band is. But one thing we should realize is, if Steve Perry hadn't joined Journey in 1978, Journey would've remained as just a Bay Area local band we wouldn't even know existed. Therefore, it's safe to say it was Perry who has paved the road for other guys to do what they're doing now. Yes, there was a Journey before Perry, but there wouldn't be a Journey that we know of without Perry. We the fans and the current members of the band owe it all to him.

perryzgal- After reading your comments I wonder why you are here. Pineda has a great voice. I read Herbert's interview about at the Bill Graham memorial how they had to key down like 4 times and Perry sounded terrible. He said he warned Neal before TBF that Perry had no intention of touring at all.

@nealkang The truth is - SP is finished with Journey. He quit on them due to his injury. But that does not mean he will not sing again with another band or go solo. The rest of the Journey waited, and waited and waited. They moved on. So SP reaped what he sowed. Watching all the interviews about SP - boy did he manipulate a lot of the things. I dont know him personaly,he goes to school in the town I live in here in Florida,he just graduated with a degree in animation,yes,he has become a man, he is a rare counter tenor , He is an amazing vocalist,and just like everyone with talent on youtube,he has had to deal with lots of crap from people who dont know enough about counter tenors to have a justified opinion, but my point is,anyone with a great talent gets dumped on here,why? because we judge what we hear,not what we know! I will remind you of David Coverdale, who did do damage to his voice and had to go to speech terapy for some time! Whitesnake did not drop him. My poin is NOT that NY dropped SP due to his voice, yea, they did that to the other Steve! I am simply saying that the voice is a hell of a lot more delicate than the fingers that play an instrument. He needed to rest. I simply prefer JRNY with SP. PERIOD! I hated all of the other replacements, and the same goes for AP!

Of course SP can't hit the high notes anymore, nobody could after abusing their voice for so long! AP can't him them now! That doesn't mean he can't sing. It is not like he had the common cold, one day he had it and now it is gone. Not at all. I refer you to David Pack, America, Tommy Tokioka, etc. Ya' know, SP did the greatest thing for himself by taking time off, not only for his hip but for his voice! The tears in my opinon were alligator tears to make us feel sorry for him. Well, we all have a very tough road, some tougher than others. Frankly (hate to bring SP in this) but his road has been really tough with the loss of his mom, his own health, Neal stabbing him in the back... However, AP's tears will NOT get me to buy, listen to, or attend any concert. Hell, I can do that at a local fair! As far as Neal is concerned, as he put it, "F*** him!" Even if SP wanted to sing with Journey again, he would have to key his voice down so much that the songs would sound ridicoulus! and he knows this and has known it for years. It's like when people are divorced, the dad deosn't care if the ex dates but then a real threat to his throne comes along and he goes nuts... Face it; this is Journey in 2008. Steve Perry was replaced by Steve Augeri,Steve Augeri was replaced by Jeff Scott Soto,Jeff Scott Soto was replaced by Arnel Pineda, and the movie never ends it goes on and on and on and on!!!Like them or not, Everyone can be replaced! But their voices remain in our hearts forever! and thats what really matters, so,lets move on and accept it already! Sick and tired of all the whacko Perry fans. Perry used to be my favorite singer, but all of his clinically insane fans made me not like the guy as much. Plus, what the heck has Perry done for his fans in the last 12 years? Nothing! There was a Journey before Perry, there will be a Journey after Perry.
Perry can't sing these songs anymore. He knows that. The hip injury was an elaborate hoax. He didn't want to embarrass himself anymore. Period. It's over. Move on. Pineda is JOURNEY. Not Perry

Well the Perry fans are sick and tired of all the whacko Arnel fans also. Anyone that thinks he can sing better then Perry "could" and makes Journey better is nuts. Perhaps they had no hits before Perry because they were a progressive jazz-fusion band? They were about to be dumped, so they hired Perry, changed their musical sound, and became successful. After Perry left in 98, they kept on with the sound that made them successful. But..this isn't the 80's anymore? Is it?
But..."Revelation" is going to debut in the top 10. So..Journey's back. Without Perry.

Not so much. There are plenty of that crappy CD on the shelves at WM where I live, however, one cannot get their hands on the remastered GH CD/DVD pack with PERRY on it. All sold out! I think WM will be giving the revelation CD away free w/ purchase! Perry fans are NOT in the minorioty. Only those of you who think that this band is being revived! Bwahahaha! A final note: Arnel will never capture the PERRY magic either! Ciao!

nealkang - Augeri was better? Even on the 2001 DVD (the one he sang over in 2008) he had to falsetto the notes. Pineda is an amazing talent and for anyone to argue otherwie is beyond me unless people are just xenophobic.

SteelerJeff068: Obviously, you do NOT have a profound understanding of the music and talents. I guess that's why you think Perry and Pineda are "comparable". Just because Pineda can jump and scream better than Augeri doensn't mean he's better than him as a singer. I think Augeri sang with a much richer soul in certain songs than Pineda, such as in Loved By You in Arrival album. There's just no depth and substance in Pineda's singing because he's just too busy trying to sound like somebody else.

Most probably he's sitting comfortably on his sofa right now, either watching Chicago White Sox game or watching the DVD Journey concert in Las Vegas from their "REVELATION" album package! It's not that Pineda has "taken over" Steve's position or America. He's in there to make a buck and feed the egos of Neal Schon and other "snakes" behind the scene. The bottom line: Steve Perry is a modern day virtuoso, who'll be recorded in history as such. Pineda? Well, you go figure.

I listened to their Rockline interview and they even took phone Q&A and what I heard are all praises for the group specially Arnel and they are mix callers mostly probably American fans. It is not hard to like Arnel because he has such a good character, Mr. Nice Guy, very down to earth person.

SteelerJeff068: Hate to break it to ya, but there's a significant difference between the cases of VH/Hagar and Journey/Pineda. Hagar was a higly established musician prior to joining VH. He was already a big star on his own, whereas Pineda was a completely unknown to the American public. What's more, he made his career out of mainly covering famous singers. Make no mistake. Journey's absolutely NOTHING without those classic hits. In fact, they can't even tour without them, and that's a fact!!!

Revelation, a GEM? That's the loudest fart I've ever heard! If they were so damn confident about the new stuff, why in the hell did they shamefully re-record the classic Perry-tunes? Let me enlighten you here. That's because they know they're NOTHING without them! Journey is no longer the real Journey anymore. They're a mere cover band of what they once were with Perry. OK, go crazy about Pineda all you want while you can, because he'll be disposed of real soon, just like Augeri was last year.

I love what is happening with my JOURNEY right now with Arnel Pineda. Their soldout concerts were great, people are lovin' em. Their new album REVELATION is a gem. Great new songs! I love SP and I miss him but, I love the rest of the band too! I love Neal for his unbelievable guitar playing, I love Jon for his great compositions, I love Deen for his out of this world drumming, and Ross on bass. The question is, do I want them to stop producing great music and stop touring simply because Steve didn't want to anymore??? Should they just sit on their ass and stop what they love to do??? Hell no!!! The show must go on for the fans - the real JOURNEY fans!!!!
