the fact that 10 months ago when there was so much hype about Phoenix moving to Hamilton I was commenting on this video and I told everybody who actually thought
this is possible that they're losing their minds if they actually think Hamilton will get a team!
I also stated Toronto would be getting a 2nd team long before Hamilton ever does.
And what happened? Everybody laughed at me and thought said my comments were lame
The Coyotes are planning to either stay in Phoenix or relocate back to Winnipeg
also there are rumors that Thomsons Group will be purchasing the Atlanta Thrashers and moving them to Toronto.
So please, to everybody who has jumped on the bandwagon and think they know something about the NHL, save your ridiculous comments to yourself and face the facts!
Dude they might make it this season besides this all over I am okay with you guys getting phoenix but the predators they do a lot for the this town and Middle Tennessee so no way you can't take this team away again it's all over.
Ruckus just for fun, there is one place that deserves a NHL franchise more then Hamilton, Winnipeg. The best case scenario is to have the Coyotes become the Jets again and move some other team such as Atlanta to Hamilton. I say at the first game in Hamilton, we chant "Make It Eight", because lets face it they supported us, now lets show some support right back.
js your the idoit. Kansas City couldn't even sell out the game last week at $10 lower bowl tickets. You can put all your BS all you want, the fact remains that the Leafs have sold all but 840 tickets since 1949. Yet no second team? Yet LA can handle two, NY can handle 3. Toronto is the 3rd largest corporate center in North America, it is the 4th largest city in the US and Canada (NY, LA, Chicago are bigger), and Southern Ontario has over 8 million residents. 44% more hockey fans then NY.
that is false, toronto is not the 4th largest city, but ok.. i could name 5 cities off the top of my head that id assume have more people than toronto.
@curtiswashik2 Name them. Just for reference you can't include: Houston, Dallas, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, San Fransisco, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo, Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta, because they are all smaller.
@sakicrocks here an just to shut you up. Dallas, San Diego, San Antonio, phoenix, Philadelphia, Huston, Chicago, LA, new york... they are all bigger than toronto.. i dont know where your preschool education comes from.
@curtiswashik2 New York 19 million (2008) Los Angeles 12.8 million (2008) Chicago 9.5 million (2008) Dallas 6.3 million (2008) Toronto 6.2 million (2006, has surpassed Dallas since then) Philadelphia 5.8 million (2008) Houston 5.7 million (2008) Phoenix 4.2 million (2008) Montreal 3.5 million (2006) San Diego 3 million (2008) San Antonio 2 million (2008)
1.2 million? Are you drunk? Toronto's population hasn't been 1.2 million since the 1950s. The City Center has 2.5 million and the GTA which is what counts in terms of population is well over 6 million.
@sakicrocks Thats true, there are so many people in Toronto. In the Golden Horseshoe alone (kind of like a neighborhood in Toronto), there are millions of people.
You're a moron. You already have two hockey teams within an hour's drive. Any city in the US with at least 500,000 residents that isn't close to another community would make it a better place for the Coyotes. I could name about half a dozen right off the top of my head including Kansas City, Portland, Cleveland, New Orleans, Houston and Milwaukee. All are more deserving than you whiny babies north of the border.
Do you honestly think you matter? I'm sure you think much but most def not with an open mind.
Take care man and try and understand why Hamilton deserves it... If you can name 3-6 places that DESERVE it more go ahead but it's not the truth because the TRUTH IS HAMILTON DESERVES IT MORE!
lol there may be more ppl in us but theres much more people who would actully go see a hockey game in canada. havent u ever wondered y a canadian team nevers dies (quebec nordiqs dont count cuz i wasnt an attendance reason)
@canadian712 OH Candada!!! Sorry but you wont be getting the preds!!! 95% attendance average. The reason we lost money was because of the old owner!!! Now with the new owners we have made money every year. Our old over bought the wild, and now they are having finacial issues!!! Dont think it is the city... its the owner!!!! Why you think commish said he wouldnt move a team from Nashville, he say potiental and it come through!!!!
I agree. Hamilton doesn't deserve one. They only want one so they can see leafs games 10 times cheaper, or its that they want the big fancy NHL logo. Hamilton is just a wasteland of ppl who just can afford the rent here in the actual city (toronto)
lol. Stereotyping a city in Canada? I mean really. I've only seen people like that in the western part of hamilton. Eastern and up on the Niagara escarpment has great people. How i know. I'm a travveling stage crew for
It makes sense in that the Rangers and Islanders play in the same city, so why not have a team in Hamilton? I'd rather see a team back in Winnipeg first and maybe in Nova Scotia (simply because they don't have a team), but Hamilton seems like an interesting choice.
Slight correction. The Islanders dont play in nYC. They play in NYC suburb of Uniondale/Hempstead, long Island, ny.
If a team does land in Hamilton (either relocated or expansion)that might mean the end of the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres get a large number of fans from the QEW coordior from Hamilton-Niagara which the media never talks about in this Phoenix/Hamilton sopa opera.
One thing is clear there are too many teams in the Southwest US.
i agree nova scotia needs a team. i wa sborn in ns and now live in monreal but i always thought halifax could use a hockey team im 100% sure it would work there
you must live in north york and i hope your enjoying your bankrupt detroit i mean uh um toronto. your probably still voting for mel lastman. i hope you enjoy the parade.
eye of the tiger???you do know we are the nashville PREDATORS right??and you showed those pictures of your whatever stadium and or sommet center that was a bad idea ours you could see was biggerthe fing place is huge
the stupid pieces of shit probally have no idea how many people usually go to preds games we have full house alot.and yeah youre right they aalso have their gay little hamilton bulldogs
Calling all Hamiltonian the Rally has been set for Saturday May30 at 1:00 pm at Copps Coliseum there is a facebook group for this but I can't get the link to post it here so join Rally for the Hamilton Coyotes
If the NHL moves a team to Hamilton it will be the beginning of the downfall of the league.
The fans wont be able to financialy support its team, when the salary cap raises the team wont be able to keep up, arena will never be sold out, and most importantly
PLAYERS WILL NEVER WANT TO PLAY FOR A NO NAME LAME ASS CITY LIKE HAMILTON
Hamilton would be a 10 times better hockey city then Phoenix thats for sure, and yes Hamilton would sell out every game, back in 2007 hockey fans in hamilton bought seasopn tickets and solf out there arena for the whole NHL season just to prove they can handle and NHL team.
great team and great fanbase but why do they have so much trouble building a successful
team and actually keeping the players in the city? unfortunately big name players dont want to play for the city of edmonton but being located in the country's richest province the
oilers have been lucky enough to keep their team and i dont think hamilton will be as lucky.
I as a resident of Hamilton would be embarrassed if NHL players from some of the greatest cities in North America see Hamilton. Downtown Hamilton is filled with old abandoned buildings, Dirty alleys, Old graffiti filled buildings infested with bums. Take a walk down Houghton street, Barton. Where would the visiting teams stay at the SHeraton, and then go for a night out to HESS village?? give me a break! I support the move but Fix Hamilton before the media and Nhl players get to " see" it.
As a hamiltonian and Hockey fan I would like to see a NHL team play here under one condition! Hamilton needs to renovate the entire downtown core and solve their homeless problem. I work in the downtown core and I see it everyday. Drug use and homelessness has plagued the city, just take a stroll through gore park and the downtown core. Bums picking up cigarette butts off the floor, begging, and twitching. Where would the Hamilton coyotes live? Ancaster?
First of all do you even live in Hamilton? Are you seriously comparing Hamilton to Chicago or Detroit?? Hamilton is not even in the same calibre as the cities mentioned above. YES i do support a team in Hamilton, but we need to improve the look of Hamilton and especially the downtown core? Have you ever seen Chicago, you have no idea what you are talking about.
Ontario doesnt need another hockey team you Ballsilly asshole, how about moving Coyotes back to Winnipeg. bring the Jets back where they always belonged
i think somone else needs to go in on buying a team and maybe sell it to Jim later I don't think bettman is going to let Jim have a team but teams like nashville and looks like phoenix is in even more trouble than nashville was and we need a team back in winnipeg as well
I think an nhl team in hamilton would be great.and if the city is to close to buffalo and toronto or whatever the problem is just move the sabers to hamilton. annd the copps colaseam would be 1 of the biggest arenas in the nhl
hockey to us??hockey to us??huh?helll fucking thousands of us love it!its life "you people in nashville blew it."ya right hockey is staying in nashville and its not going to cananda.
1 the team is in nashville2 the team is in nashville and staying3 the team is staying in nashville and bringing in more sponsorships4 the fact that we dont have as much corporate sales and still average over 14k is saying we have more "fans" than other markets 5 the only good thing canada is good for is the vancouver girls and 6 didnt we beat out at least 2 canadian teams in the west to make the playoffs? go suck on blackberry's balls and get over the fact that nashville has a team
To my stupid imbred American retarded neighbours.........1 Nashville is not an NHL market its a fucking joke.2 nobody has any money to buy the team ie.Boots(iam a crook, bullshiter without a pot to piss in)Da Belagio.3 zero corporate support ie private boxes.4 no local TV or radio revenue the total for 2007 was 750,000$. 5 No local advertising money.6 an ever increasing salary cap due the higher Canadian $ and half of the revenue produced by gate sales and of that the 6 Canadian teams.
you know.. if the nhl decides to expand, i would love to see hamilton get a team, owned by basille.. so nashville could have another great rival. if you thought we were loud this season against detroit.. just wait until we win a series against basille's team. GO PREDS!!
haahaha whoever made this vids a fag...you actually think the greatest fans are gunna let this team leave here? If your town is so much better of a hockey town then wheres your hockey team???? Exactly, your towns a piece a shit!
u just pissed off the wrong preds fan if we dont care y did JASON ARNOTT say that the sommet center is the LOOUDEST arena he has ever...EVER played in all the players love the city and the city loves them and if we dont care y did we rais money we could have used on our family to keep this team we supossally "dont care about" u are a stright up jackass
watch a single game we are alwase on our feet and cheering
nashville may not have as many fans (about 14,000) during football season (sold out after) but they are louder than any place in canada. sorry the team got bought by local owners and they extentened their lease and now every one hates ballsillie in nashville. we are know making revenue because are public affairs guy got let go and the team got more local and have more corperate sponsors :( so much for blowing it
Have you guys seen how the Nashville fans cheered during an entire tv timeout for their team? It wasn't one of those stupid stand up and cheer prompts from the jumbotron either. I have never seen a team's fans do that before.
I dont think it would work in Hamilton but it would in winnipeg. One day that biast american will have to give in and let a team move to canada. Our money is worth more then your greenback. So instead of saying Canada Sucks do the reasearch why another team in Canada would save the NHL
the preds are staying because nashville has proof that hockey is better here tough crap hamilton you don't need an NHL team u have a minor league team, just be happy u have hockey.
im glad the preds didnt have to move, last thing the league needs is having another failed team south of the border, but they arent staying because nashville is a better hockey market than hamilton.
move to hamilton? ppl in hamilton change from leafs or sens fans to preds fans. same revenue for league. and the millions the other teams have put into nashville? waste.
as for new contract? i love it. if in 5 years nashville still hasnt proven its a hockey market? then itll be time.
Keep your nashville preds playing at the Fag i mean the Gaylord entertainment centre for 5 more years...theres other shit nhl cities down south that are in worse shape then the Fags i mean preds lol Gaylord Entertainment centre lol
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Guess who just signed a lease to keep the Nashville Predators to keep them in NASHVILLE for at LEAST 5 more years. That gives us plenty of time to raise attendance and keep them here FOREVER. hahahahahahahahahahahaha. sorry...not...:)
People who make fun of people from Nashville and talk shit about them are stupid, that's just weak. I do however think that Nashville is a shit hockey city. They should have had to prove themselves through the AHL before they got the NHL. All teams should before the get the bigs IMO
Yeah. I should rephrase that. UNPROVEN hockey markets should have to show that they can support a team. Then, and only then should a non-traditional market recieve a team. Unless people are not supporting it because they want the big leagues, then that means there is still untapped market potential. Just plonking a hockey team down anywhere is stupid.
I love when canadian superstar hockey players sign witha canadian team after playing down south...when they are questioned about how the fans are there...they laugh and say that no one cares and they are happy to be home!
Hockey in nashville is a complete joke...nashville isnt the only bullshit city to have teams...looks at Carolina, Florida, n.y islanders..all those teams would look better up north. With our strong canadian dollar i think it will happen that canada should get a few more nhl teams besides nashville...come on if i was playing hockey in nashville id be pretty embarrassed that my home arena is called the GAYLORD entertainment centre...
Carolina is getting good attendance from their cup win. The Isles and Devils should merge. It's been called the Sommet Center for a long time now. Nashville should leave. This years attendance so far proves it.
GO PRED-A-TORS and many more great seasons in nashville.the preds did not blow it,it was jim basille that blew it.he went by his own rules and not by the nhl rules.i hate how canadiens are saying that americans are stupid and don't know hockey.i hope canada gets another hockey team,so people in canada can stop whining about how hockey only belongs in canada and nowhere else.GO Preds.
hamilton does deserve a team. i might be from the vancouver but i know since the 70's hamilton has been such a prominent industrial city, even building a new team there shouldnt be a problem.
good god i dont even w why the preds, coyotes, islanders are still around with onli couple thousands each. and the ducks are pushing it. theres such limited talent in the world and the league wastes them where so little ppl care.
Here's what I don't understand with the Canadian fans who are screaming for us to lose our team. Canada is a country where every person takes it personal for losing their teams even if they weren't a fan of the team. However, they want us to lose our team. That's like us saying baseball, basketball, and football are bigger here some of your teams need to be moved here because you can't support them like we can. It's stupid!
"Here's what I don't understand with the Canadian fans who are screaming for us to lose our team."
I'm glad you touched on this. I don't think it's a case of Canadian hockey fans wanting to spite the people of Nashville or its hockey fans. I think it's a case of Canadian hockey fans wanting to spite GARY BETTMAN!
They've waited for one of his 'Sun Belt Babies' to start bleeding; so as to bruise his ego.
I know, I know but we are the ones who suffer not Bettman. I also don't think that Bettman is good for the league but I would never wish that another fan loses their team because I wouldn't want to lose mine. When the sens, buffalo, and the pens all had problems that was the last thing I would have wanted for any of them.
"I know, I know but we are the ones who suffer not Bettman. I also don't think that Bettman is good for the league"
You really have to wonder just how many hockey fans Bettman has endeared himself to over the past 14 years.
With Bettman, here's a guy who had never even seen a full hockey game prior to becoming commissioner. When he was first presented with a puck, he tried to OPEN it!
Hey I agreed with you about Bettman, I don't think that he's good for the league but this will affect the fans WAY more than it ever would Bettman. So wishing that the team doesn't succeed just to get a jab at Bettman is nothing in terms of how it is felt by the fans of the Preds.
I must be a bad person if I agree with what Leipold did. That snake didn't sell his team to Balsillie because he didn't like the direction that things were going in. He is a bad bad person to not enter a binding agreement after that month period was over. That makes me sick...I can't believe he did that!!!
You'd think that you'd be wise enough to see that you have no dog in this fight. Balsillie will NOT get his hands on the team therefore there is absolutely no reason for you (certain canadians) to continue to piss and moan and for people to continue to talk shit about the preds, the city of Nashville, and their fans.
Hamilton won't be the city of any NHL team so who is the joke on? Seriously, with the local group entering a binding letter of intent you would think that people like you would drop it.
"Hamilton won't be the city of any NHL team so who is the joke on?"
Whoever wants to operate a hockey club at a loss.
"Seriously, with the local group entering a binding letter of intent you would think that people like you would drop it."
Craig Leipold has not done much for his own personal credibility with these 'letters of intent'. There are many people around the league who think that team could still end up in Kansas City.
Are you a psychic? Can you predict the future? There are many teams that are not that profitable in the early going especially in the south. Once your fan base pics up then so will the money. To state that the team will continue and continue to operate at a loss is ignorant.
That's a silly question. Gary Bettman figured he knew everything by expanding en masse to the American sun belt. In 2003-04, the NHL lost what US$273 million? Such a smart businessman.
Ohh I still believe that it is a good thing but it does take a little time. Dallas, you wouldn't think that Dallas would work but it does. You wouldn't think that Tampa would sell out but they do. You wouldn't think that a team in southern California would work but San Jose is doing just fine. Like I've said before, I can understand moving a team if they do not show any signs of the attendance getting better...like Florida.
Southern Cali is still southern. They don't get snow there! They are southern, if you split the US in half horizontally, they are a southern city.
Who cares why Tampa has the support, point is that they have the support. Anaheim is the same way, they don't sell out every game but they have ok support because of the season that they just had.
alright for some reason this won't let me break down the temps for you. Go to cityrating and look up the average temps for both San Jose and Nashville. They are warmer than us every month. Also Nashville is neither a desert or a swamp.
"As for Tampa, attendance only increased after they won the Cup, but I believe is declining again; whatever the case, the team is losing money, too."
For anybody interested, check the Forbes-dot-com web-site. They don't have any figures on NHL franchises from the past season, but they do from 2005-06.
"There are many teams that are not that profitable in the early going especially in the south. Once your fan base pics up then so will the money."
This is what frustrates hockey fans in Canada. The league insists on plunging into these Southern markets where they have to convert people into hockey fans. How many years should the league hang itself trying to make hockey mainstream in places where people are married to the NFL?
Read the one that I just put. I know why pisses of the Canadian fans. I've said it many times that I do think that Canada should have another team just not ours. Actually I think that Canada should probably have 2 more teams. With that statement though, would you not want others to enjoy the game like you do? I was a hockey fan before the preds came into town but many people weren't and many people have picked up on it now.
Leipold has only signed 2 letters of intent and the one with Balsillie was never binding like this one. It ruins his personal credibility to withdrawl because he didn't like the way that Balsillie was operating? Wow, that's interesting. So if I said that I intended to sell you my dog for example and your actions were indicating that you were going to do something to my dog that I didn't want happening then I couldn't withdrawl that offer?
It didn't look good on Balsillie or his asshole lawyer. Leipold, I already stated that, he didn't want the team to leave Nashville and he said that from the get go. Bettman I know you'll disagree because you're hate Bettman but he didn't do anything wrong either. Balsillie wasn't holding up on the "good faith of making it work in Nashville" that the league has about moving teams or having new owners.
ohh barry said sucks barry look at it this way leipold signed a letter of intent and by the end of the week even be4 then hes going to sell the team to LOCAL buyers not fags from canada
This will never happen. Buffalo and Toronto are too close. Plus, you guys already have a really good AHL team.

@sakicrocks
that is false, toronto is not the 4th largest city, but ok.. i could name 5 cities off the top of my head that id assume have more people than toronto.
curtiswashik2 1 year ago
@curtiswashik2 Name them. Just for reference you can't include: Houston, Dallas, Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Detroit, San Fransisco, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Buffalo, Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta, because they are all smaller.

@sakicrocks montreal has 400,000 more people than toronto. im not doing any more research. point proven.

@curtiswashik2 Toronto's population is actually near double Montreal's.

THE POPULATION OF TORONTO IS NOT 6.2 MILLION WHAT ARE YOU HIGH?
curtiswashik2 1 year ago
@sakicrocks
the population of toronto is 1,237,720. THIS IS NOT THE GTA. THE GTA IS NOT THE CITY OF TORONTO.
curtiswashik2 1 year ago
1.2 million? Are you drunk? Toronto's population hasn't been 1.2 million since the 1950s. The City Center has 2.5 million and the GTA which is what counts in terms of population is well over 6 million.
sakicrocks 1 year ago
@sakicrocks Thats true, there are so many people in Toronto. In the Golden Horseshoe alone (kind of like a neighborhood in Toronto), there are millions of people.

As of 2006, Toronto has 2.5 million people in hte city while the Urban area is at 4.7 million and the CMA at 5.1 million. Source - Wikipedia

@canadian712 OH Candada!!! Sorry but you wont be getting the preds!!! 95% attendance average. The reason we lost money was because of the old owner!!!

It makes sense in that the Rangers and Islanders play in the same city, so why not have a team in Hamilton? I'd rather see a team back in Winnipeg first and maybe in Nova Scotia (simply because they don't have a team), but Hamilton seems like an interesting choice.
MyselfTheThird 2 years ago
Slight correction. The Islanders dont play in nYC. They play in NYC suburb of Uniondale/Hempstead, long Island, ny.
If a team does land in Hamilton (either relocated or expansion)that might mean the end of the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres get a large number of fans from the QEW coordior from Hamilton-Niagara which the media never talks about in this Phoenix/Hamilton sopa opera.
One thing is clear there are too many teams in the Southwest US.

If the NHL moves a team to Hamilton it will be the beginning of the downfall of the league.
The fans wont be able to financialy support its team, when the salary cap raises the team wont be able to keep up, arena will never be sold out, and most importantly
PLAYERS WILL NEVER WANT TO PLAY FOR A NO NAME LAME ASS CITY LIKE HAMILTON
julianoa4l 2 years ago
Phoenix is the city that is not financially supporting their team. Everybody knows that another team in southern Ontario would be successful.

julianoa4l 2 years ago
@cne08 still think my comments were lame? LOL idiot

Hamilton would be a 10 times better hockey city then Phoenix thats for sure, and yes Hamilton would sell out every game, back in 2007 hockey fans in hamilton bought seasopn tickets and solf out there arena for the whole NHL season just to prove they can handle and NHL team.
GoPensGo377 2 years ago
Look at the edmonton oilers for example..
great team and great fanbase but why do they have so much trouble building a successful
team and actually keeping the players in the city? unfortunately big name players dont want to play for the city of edmonton but being located in the country's richest province the
oilers have been lucky enough to keep their team and i dont think hamilton will be as lucky.
so
julianoa4l 2 years ago
no big names = no fans = no team
SO PLEASE gary bettman do NOT bring a team to hamilton because itll make the nhl look like a
low budget league. you cant just take away a team from all the fans of phoenix that have been
supporting the team for all these years and give a city thats already sent a previous team down the drain.
julianoa4l 2 years ago

I as a resident of Hamilton would be embarrassed if NHL players from some of the greatest cities in North America see Hamilton. Downtown Hamilton is filled with old abandoned buildings, Dirty alleys, Old graffiti filled buildings infested with bums. Take a walk down Houghton street, Barton. Where would the visiting teams stay at the SHeraton, and then go for a night out to HESS village?? give me a break! I support the move but Fix Hamilton before the media and Nhl players get to " see" it.
livnjaktopovi 2 years ago
As a hamiltonian and Hockey fan I would like to see a NHL team play here under one condition! Hamilton needs to renovate the entire downtown core and solve their homeless problem. I work in the downtown core and I see it everyday. Drug use and homelessness has plagued the city, just take a stroll through gore park and the downtown core. Bums picking up cigarette butts off the floor, begging, and twitching. Where would the Hamilton coyotes live? Ancaster?
livnjaktopovi 2 years ago
wow you should visit some of the American cities that do have a SUCCESSFUL NHL team and look in their backyards...DETROIT-CHICAGO etc...

It's stupid!
savyjo44 4 years ago
"Here's what I don't understand with the Canadian fans who are screaming for us to lose our team."
I'm glad you touched on this. I don't think it's a case of Canadian hockey fans wanting to spite the people of Nashville or its hockey fans. I think it's a case of Canadian hockey fans wanting to spite GARY BETTMAN!
They've waited for one of his 'Sun Belt Babies' to start bleeding; so as to bruise his ego.

I know, I know but we are the ones who suffer not Bettman. I also don't think that Bettman is good for the league but I would never wish that another fan loses their team because I wouldn't want to lose mine. savyjo44 4 years ago
FischerFan 4 years ago
Hey I agreed with you about Bettman, I don't think that he's good for the league but this will affect the fans WAY more than it ever would Bettman. So wishing that the team doesn't succeed just to get a jab at Bettman is nothing in terms of how it is felt by the fans of the Preds.

I must be a bad person if I agree with what Leipold did. That snake didn't sell his team to Balsillie because he didn't like the direction that things were going in. savyjo44 4 years ago
You'd think that you'd be wise enough to see that you have no dog in this fight.
FischerFan 4 years ago
Are you a psychic? Can you predict the future? There are many teams that are not that profitable in the early going especially in the south. Once your fan base pics up then so will the money. To state that the team will continue and continue to operate at a loss is ignorant.
savyjo44 4 years ago
"Are you a psychic? Can you predict the future?"
That's a silly question. Gary Bettman figured he knew everything by expanding en masse to the American sun belt. In 2003-04, the NHL lost what US$273 million? Such a smart businessman.
FischerFan 4 years ago
Ohh I still believe that it is a good thing but it does take a little time. Dallas, you wouldn't think that Dallas would work but it does. You wouldn't think that Tampa would sell out but they do. You wouldn't think that a team in southern California would work but San Jose is doing just fine. Like I've said before, I can understand moving a team if they do not show any signs of the attendance getting better...like Florida.
savyjo44 4 years ago
Dallas is a notable exception to the rule. As a city, it supports its sports. Even the last-place Rangers draw well, given the current product.
San Jose has been a good expansion choice, but they are not 'Southern' like Atlanta or Florida, in that sense of the word.
Would Tampa have the support it does without the 2004 Cup championship?
FischerFan 4 years ago
Southern Cali is still southern. They don't get snow there! They are southern, if you split the US in half horizontally, they are a southern city.
Who cares why Tampa has the support, point is that they have the support. Anaheim is the same way, they don't sell out every game but they have ok support because of the season that they just had.
savyjo44 4 years ago
"Southern Cali is still southern. They don't get snow there!"
San Jose, and the Bay area are in Northern California. True, snow is a rarity there; but it's not desert-like, or steamy Southern swamp hot there.
It's more temperate.
Tampa, Carolina, and Anaheim were all floundering at the gate until their respective Cup wins.

alright for some reason this won't let me break down the temps for you. Go to cityrating and look up the average temps for both San Jose and Nashville. They are warmer than us every month. Also Nashville is neither a desert or a swamp.

Us?? I thought you lived in or around Nashville. Where abouts ARE you?

Read it again, temps for BOTH San Jose AND Nashville. They (San Jose) are warmer than us (Nashville).

"San Jose manages to get by because who go to games are ex-pat Canadians, I believe."
It would be interesting to know what percentage of the fans attending the home games of sun belt teams of come from Canada or the Northern U.S.

"As for Tampa, attendance only increased after they won the Cup, but I believe is declining again; whatever the case, the team is losing money, too."
For anybody interested, check the Forbes-dot-com web-site. They don't have any figures on NHL franchises from the past season, but they do from 2005-06.

San Jose is fine as a hockey market.
Tampa is starting to sink, I agree. Ithink they lost somewhere around 9 Mil.

"It ruins his personal credibility to withdrawl because he didn't like the way that Balsillie was operating?"
I don't dispute that Balsillie, and especially his lawyer, rubbed Leipold, Bettman, etc. the wrong way with the activity in Hamilton.
The end result did not look good on any of the parties involved.
