@cutienews101 A friend of mine uses his outdoors on the patio to make sure his dog goes potty in the same spot every time and also to keep the poop off the pavement, where dog mess can stain easily. Also, if you want to keep things consistent for your pet, you could have one setup outdoors and one indoors. Personally I've found that indoors (besides the garage) is just too smelly any way you do it.
i want to make my own pet potty, but what is best to do? i have 2 sml chihuahuas and i live in an apartment with a balcony. i saw your tips on what to do, but im a bit confused with the "white plastic grate" you wrote above about? now if you use that white plastic grate do u no longer use the grass or do you still need the grass and lay that on top of the "white plastic grate" instead of the metal grating? :/ or do u still need the metal grating used in vid pls let me know asap! :) thank you!!
Update! I kinda feel bad for recommending artificial grass because I've found (after a year) that it's just too smelly and hard to keep clean. A good replacement for the grass is a white plastic grate like the ones you see in the videos on the right of this page. YOU CAN BUY THE GRATE FOR ONLY $12 at Home Depot or Lowes. It's meant for fluorescent lighting and comes in 24"x48" panels that you can cut to fit into the washing machine drip pan shown in this video.
I have a picture of the shelf at home depot that I can email you so you can see the whole 8 ft sheet. It's labeled "3/8 x 8 ft. Rib Lath - EGC". Its in the building supplies section. Email me at randlefactor(at)gmail(dot)com and I'll email you the pic
Here's a couple tips I've learned after using my pet potty for a while:
1. Drill lots of holes if you are using it outside so the water can easily drain out.
2. Drill or poke holes in the grass and zip-tie the grating to it so it's easier to handle. I flip the pan over once a week and spray down the pan and grass/grating, then allow the grass to drain upside down.
Why would you use it out doors?

@cutienews101 For people who live in apartments with patios- let the dog out on the patio.

@IMGalleta You have to pick up the poop... just like you do if your puppy poops on your carpet, except this is much cleaner! haha!

@randlefactor the home depot calls that material 'diffusers' - they didn't know what i was talking about at first.

Thanks :) It's easy to make a great video if you've got a great lead actor (Dash the Beagle!).
I hope you have a hose and a place to drain it near your patio (are you on the first floor?). It can get pretty smelly if it's not washed regularly.
Another quick tip for puppies is to attach a rope and bell to your patio door so she can let you know when she needs to go out :)
