  • I had a pet fish just like that.

  • Good thing you let it go

  • Kudos for returning the shark to the ocean!

  • Good job.

  • jaws

  • thx for not being a fin-cutting-off, throwing-the-shark-back-overboard slope.

  • wow,

  • Props to you guys for releasing it. I was kinda worried about the impact on it's spine from the rope, but you said it swam away fine. Good to hear nobody was hurt.

  • amazing! is it a gr8 white??

  • We catch Sevengill Sharks here in SF Bay. The have longer fins and are a little lighter in color(small ones have spots). Iv'e heard of people catching six gills but never seen it. SO its cool to see a vid of one out of the water!

  • D:<

NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM

  • He says:Thank you=-)

  • Must have thought you had a great haul until you saw that big bubba in the net.

  • It was still a good haul ;) Actually I thought that we had gotten a big skate or ray, or a tire or other piece of garbage. We pulled up so much garbage on every haul. The issue with this haul was that if that shark had flopped around enough to tip the sorting table, it would have killed somebody. We had to get it off as soon as possible. Because of all of the garbage, there was very little deck space at the time. Anyway, thanks for your comment

  • Glad to hear that no one was hurt, Pet. You fellows are up against enough obstacles in the day to day routine without some poor, panicking shark causing another.

  • is it a full grown? or it grows larger than a great white?

  • LMAO it grabbed some lunch before it went.

  • It chomped quite a bit out of a 1" sheet of marine plywood that we had blocking a discard chute... these are very powerful creatures! Thanks for looking!

  • Very Cool! Thanks for letting it go, ultimate "catch and release"! We filmed one from a sub at 2000' (and there is another on youtube at 3300')Do you think individuals routinely transit to and from these depths to shallower areas(feeding maybe)?Or are they spatially distributed according to depth based on age (maybe juveniles in the shallows, with adults only coming to the shallow area for reproduction) or territory? Hell, are the deep and shallow six gills even the same species? Thanks again

  • They better have let it go because it is on the endangered species list because scientists don't know how much of them are left. And if they didn't release it and they got caught they would have to pay a big fine or even go to jail.

  • You are not correct. It is true that we do not have a very complete understanding of the long-term population trends of this species or this particular stock. However, this species is not endangered. They are listed as Lower Risk/Near threatened on the IUCN Red list. You should do some research before commenting like that, stop spreading bad information.

  • motherfuckers, letting it go that shark, shit!!!!

  • dude i know it looks scary but what if that was u ever thought about that u should take a look at ure cmnt twice buddy

  • good work in letting it go.

  • Hats off to you guys for letting it go. I think you did the right thing. :)

  • Very Surprised it was still alive with such depth changes and pressure changes.

  • Sharks, skates, rays, and chimeras all use oil-filled livers to control buoyancy, not an air-filled gas bladder. So, they experience few ill-effects of being brought to atmospheric pressure. The temperature change is probably the worst of it, besides the handling stress.

  • OMG!!! I'm surprised it was close enough to the surface to have gotten caught!

  • Yes, but this was a bottom trawl at about 90m. What is extra surprising is that it was slow/dumb enough not to swim out of the way of the net, which it is perfectly capable of... maybe it wanted to become a star :)

  • LoL! Nice job, you guys! And I'm really impressed you let it go!
