  • A masterpiece! And I am crying. The most sad love song of our times. Thanks, Lou.

  • @glorianocanta ...Without John Cale, this song would be nothing.

  • Just one of the best for music lovers of the eclectic. Its got it all including nostalgia. Gritty, dirty passionate, earthy honest good music.

  • this album, it is one of "the one's"

  • damn, i hate coca cola but Lou makes me feel like i wanna drink a little!

  • lou reed is the coolest guy to drink coca cola

  • BAKER BAKER BAKER BAKER BAKER FOR LIFE

  • shalalalala man....

  • Lou Reed songs ALWAYS get a reaction!

  • I have a real question from a long time VU/Lou fan..... Why would this song offend a black person? I have listened to it many times and havent heard anything that I think would be offensive.... Again, Im asking the question honestly and not trying to still up shit or flame anything..... Frank

  • Good music/ bad Video.

Lou at his gutterest, Great Album

  • BAKER 3!

  • That has to be Bruce Springsteen doing the first part of slip away isn't it? I'd forgotten about Lou's masterpiece for at least 20 years...along with a time in my life when this song was too relevant. A complex, deep, dark view of life best forgotten...

  • Street Hassle was the first rock and roll album I ever bought. I just thought Lou looked cool on the cover, I didn't know anything about it. This album will always have special meaning for me.

  • The first two minutes and last two minutes are awesome. The 7 minutes in between, eh.

  • thats the sexiest coca-cola can get

  • BAKER 3

  • One of my all time faves. "Cool" in the dictionary has a picture of Lou. Penguin Cafe Orchestra definitely took a lot of their sound from this song.

  • One of my all time faves. "Cool" in the dictionary has a picture of Lou.

  • coco cola is evil

  • Well I've been some far out places

  • Lou Reed drink Coca-Cola :D

  • I want to live a world when an X Factor contestant covers this standout brilliant, multi-layered work of art.

  • baker 3 fool

  • For 9 minutes, this song is lyrically, standard Lou Reed shit. Prostitutes, sex, drug dealers, death, etc etc.

The last two minutes, however, are probably the most touching and genuine lyrics he's ever written. I don't think I've ever heard Lou Reed sound so human.

  • "Send Street Hassle Ringtone to your Cell" !

How fuck can you convert this masterpiece into Ringtone ?

    Misleading and shitty advertising...

  • 9:02 Bruce Springsteen

  • BAKER 3

  • The Squid and the Whale

  • The final part of this is about the most intense singing I ever heard.

  • this is the song they put on the album in order to sell all the other songs on it, without street hassle the album is utter pants. and i say that as a huge lou and velvets fan.

  • Headphones give the full effect of the binaural recording.

  • whiplash

  • Lou Reed and Coca Cola, the story of my life.

  • Coca Cola

  • This video is great, but I still find myself more mystified and fascinated by seabrazils version

  • "hey that cunts not breathing, i think shes has too much'' 5:02

  • BAKER 3!!!!!!!!!

  • Street Hassle was the album that put me off Lou Reed for years - it introduced the horrible, warbling, shakey voice he started to sing with (for god knows what reason). He didn't sing properly again till the title track of New Sensations. A pity, as it just ruined so many good songs from that time. Of course, nowadays, his "singing" is just so outrageously disgusting that I don't even follow his album releases in the slightest.

  • @MrAttPatt Im sure Lou gives a flying fuck about your opinion, or mine for that matter.

  • I can't have enough of this song

  • ..Beautiful, Tragic, Brilliant and Timeless...........- A Master's Masterpiece- That riff is like breathing........it also reminds you how cool Bruce Springsteen was (and is)- to be hanging out with Lou and given a cameo that fits so perfectly. Thanks for posting.............

  • This just made me shit my pants and forget who I am.

  • BAKER BAKER BAKER!

  • shallalalalalaa

  • Fantastic, mesmerizing stuff. Lou Reed at his absolute best. The end.

  • buzzfeed

  • sha la la man.

  • still amazing.. fresh ,hard hitting. just a stunning bit of genius.. the album is ropey?

  • what amazing ... nice vibe..still my top.. strange?

  • I thought I was the only person that liked this record (the whole thing is excellent). I remember in the late seventies my punk rock neighbors dug it the most. Thanks for posting.

  • holy shit, this song is fucking amazing. I get chills when i listen to it :)

  • Bakerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr 3

  • purity in its essence

  • What the hell is Baker?

  • @UncleErnie71 its a skate movie G-CODE!!!

  • wxcellent Andy Warhol´s movie

  • at 9 min u can hear bruce springsteen :-) u know?

  • The Squid and the Whale brought me here :)

  • @desiskillz08 Who cares who brought you here :/.... But that was a great movie!

  • Beagle brought me here

  • thanks to spacemen 3!!!! this song is from them!!

  • @alkbbo51090 Are.. are you retarded?

  • I wanna be black

  • Sha la la la man is at about 5:30. if you wanted to know.

  • My all time favourite Reed moment in music....and man there's so much to choose from!

  • BAKER 3!

  • BRUUUUUUUUUCE

  • BAKER 3 :D

  • I almost got my ass kicked by a room full of angry black people for playing this song on the jukebox...Honestly...I'd do it all over again. This is a brilliant song.

  • @Feadpool2112 i dont get it, how come?

  • @Feadpool2112 damn i would be the only black guy there saying " you niggahs is trippin!" this song is too dope!

  • @Feadpool2112 Gosh darn 'em black people...no diss, to you or them

  • @Feadpool2112 I have loved the song since it first came out. My best friend was the Bowie fan, and I the Lou Reed. The dark, brooding undertones of this little symphony always touched a base nerve. "Hey, man, that's just a lie...." My favorite passage from this sone.

  • @Feadpool2112 Hahaha. I've played this in the company of friends many a time and none have managed to get to six minutes without having to coerce me to turn it off. It seems this song makes most people want to slit their wrists or at least have their ears blocked with cement, but it's one of my favourite songs of all time. The lyrics are fucking spectacular.

  • @Feadpool2112 I`m a black dude and I love me some Lou Reed. I have this on cassette somewhere in my house. I just couldn`t get this song out of my head all week. I haven`t heard it in years. Maybe not even this century. It`s been in my head even though I haven`t heard it in a while. So I just had to check it out. I guess I was craving this song.If Iwas in the room when you played this I would have complimented you on your taste in music.

  • I hate when this happens to me

  • Anybody else suddenly have a craving for a Coke?

  • @RabidGorillaDOTcom yes.... and i drink pepsi. lol!

  • Without a doubt one of Lous best. This is the song that did it for me-after hearing it I was a fan for life. But does Bruce Springsteen get any credit for this at all? I dont remembering him being mentioned on the album.

  • @revolution7153 Bruce was on a different label but "Darkness on the Edge of Town" and "Street Hassle" were recorded at the same studio. Prob. just one of those "in the hallway" things. Also, Clive Davis had just started Arista which was Lou's label by this time, and he had signed Springsteen to Columbia in '73.

  • Maybe Lou's best ever tune.

  • still not famous like the Bolero 'sof Ravel...it's only a time matter..louis a genious, his time is not as the our one....magic of the music....i humbly presume, thumb up,anyway!

  • This is Lou's masterpiece but he looks ridiculous sucking a bottle of sugar water. I guess Andy thought it might be interesting.

  • @karakorak maybe it's couse of to drink the coke is ,may7be,the thing the entire mankind do more, more than to fuck, more than to look at a sunset..then..it's the man(kind) representing itself, not bad as example, don't you think??? or,i'm only a mad, excuse me,in the case......

  • Wow - first time I've ever heard this. Very cool track and fitting video, Excellent and moving.

  • @bgeddyutube ....you'll now have to listen to the whole 'Street Hassle' album now....it's excellent -- welcome to the world of Lou!

  • the squid and the whale!

  • I don't think there's much more heartbreaking music than this; it's just absolute dejection against beautiful music. It always makes me cry.

  • slip away

  • baker 3!

  • lou's greatest song... and one of the all time greats ...no other song sounds like this ...and that classic line "why dont ya grab ya old lady by the feet....and ....brilliant...

  • This is one of the coolest songs EVER! I love Lou Reed!

  • The squid and the whale...

  • " that bitch aint breathin', i think she's had too much..."

  • I have 'sha la la la la man" tattooed on my arm. It reminds me not to take things too seriously and to just not be too bothered about things.

  • So who edited this video? Excellent. The music speaks for itself.

  • I have no idea why, but I just hear this song and the lyrics and the tune and the meaning, and it speaks to me. In a way not many other songs do, in a way where when I listen to it every time I just want to weep. Absolutely..just..fantastic.

  • Thank you to the film The Squid and the Whale for introducing me to this song. What a perfect use of it.

  • 10 people dont understand the street hassle

  • Reed`s finest moment. I bought this on 12" vinyl in `78...Great song

  • WTF...bad!

  • this song is about as warm and cozy as used needles and razor wire. amazing!

  • He's aged drastically in the last few years, saw him playing live with Gorillaz live last year.

  • uncredited appearance by Bruce Springsteen in the final movement

  • Just discovered this masterpiece ! IN LOVE !

  • top greatest song of all time. period. perfect. makes me weep like a baby.

  • happy birthday you old brilliant perv.

  • What a perfect combination of my two favorite things: Lou Reed's music and Andy Warhol's short films!

  • he did it I was there and saw him do it, yep.. it was what he did.

  • How the hell does he play that beatiful guitar,i´ve tried open d and e but i still can´t get it,of course i guess it craves an electric guitar.

  • This was the first Rock and Roll album I ever bought, I just liked the cover. Other than that, I knew nothing about it. It changed my life forever.

  • That is actually Bruce Springsteen with the spoken words near the end of the tune.

Some one had asked if Lou had borrowed the lines. Nope Springsteen performed them.

  • i have this on vinyl

  • BAKER 3!

  • Best video ever!

  • Bruce Springsteen's bit gets me every time; "Well hey(man), that's just a lie, It's a lie she tells her friends. 'cause the real song, the real song Where she won't even admit to herself The beatin' in her heart. It's a song lots of people know. It's a painful song A little sad truth But life full of sad songs Penny for a wish But wishin' won't make you a soldier. With a pretty kiss for a pretty face Can't have it's way Y'know tramps like us, we were born to pay."
  • No matter how many times I listen to this I always hear something new in it to keep it fresh for me. Gorgeous song

  • Oly crap havent heard this since 1984!

  • I'm really glad to Noah Baumbach that he put this song in his "The Squid and the Whale". Fit perfectly. Great song!

  • lovely footage!

  • baker 3 boout to bang y'all over the head

  • @WSWarthog its a warhol face test it's supposed to be like that.

  • @waggy55

To be honest I'm not a big fan of Warhol, but that's just my sense of taste rather than a failing in Warhol's sense of aesthetics (which I suspect has been to some extent inspired by Leni Riefenstahl, who's work is the product of a genius).

  • All of Lou Reed's albums and songs are emotional and powerful and beautiful - and this is one of his best works.

If I could listen to one song and one song only for the rest of my life, this one would be a candidate.

  • I know it makes me sound cracked but, "sha la la la man" has made its way into my everyday vocabulary/mind set.

  • @digitalbananajam ...and why don't we slip away has inserted itself into how I hear things...it's a universal truth, man, some people...glory, glory, glory...I feel so good listening to this, every time...it's like there is never a second time, it's always fresh, always new...took the rings of my fingers, and there's nothing left to say

  • jajaja los pasan besando tomando una Coca la botella que diseño el Andy Warhol o comiendo todo en serie y de de la vida en ciudad, de los padres del arte pop...

  • I first heard this in The Squid and the Whale, and LOVED it. This is such a beautiful song.

  • Time will tell that Lou Reed is the greatest poet of the late 20th Century.

  • Oh when that bass comes in....sheer filthy joy all through me :)

  • Back when the trains were covered with graffiti and had no heat. Used to freeze my ass off going out to my grandmas in rockaway beach.

  • baker 3!!!

  • Is it just me who is craving a bottle of Coca-Cola after watching this?

  • 5:20, is that Dennis Hopper (may he rest in peace)?

  • @DangerousCharacter

I see what you mean, that man does look like him. R.I.P. indeed.

  • what's not to 'like'?

  • haha

  • Bad luck is anyone missing out on this

  • THIS SONG IS TO SAY THE LEAST MESSED UP AS IS THE VIDEO BUT I LOVE MESSED UP SO COULDNT HAVE THOUGHT UP ANYTHING THIS UGLY AND THIS FUNNY AT THE SAME TIME LOU SHOULDVE GOT AN OSCAR OR SOMETHIN FOR THIS

  • At 9:04 this is Bruce Springsteen. He was in the same studio at that time, recording for Darkness. Lou Reed asked him to help out and he accepted...

  • It's a shame they don't show the 'dislikers'

  • I can't stop listening to this. One of my top favorite Lou Reed songs since I first heard it. I think I've listened to this about once a day for the past week and a half!

  • music more than vid .. cheow baby.lol

  • 5:19 Dennis Hopper?

  • This is a wonderful song, and it ends a wonderful movie - The Squid and the Whale. Thank you Lou Reed for all you have done....

  • only 3 people are stupid!
