  • It blows me away that Gordie and the boys have never changed their lineup :D

    thats commitment.

  • Not enough of them in Scotland, man. Saw them a couple of years here during a tour and honestly, best live band I've ever seen. Love em. Come back soon, or I'll have to move!

  • newfie64 sorry guys .this is from markham fairgrounds the first roadside attraction .

  • @RachelRocker24646 Sorry - the first Another Roadside Attraction was 1993 - this video is 3 years before that (1990)

  • FANTASTIC voice live (if the recording is live)

  • the tragically hip are a Canadian treasure. and are truly amazing in concert

  • SAW THEM MORE IN BARS N SMALL VENUES IN THE 80'S THEY WERE COOKIN BY THIS SHOW!!

  • DEFINITELY IS HARSH KUZ IT COULD BE BRAMPTON ONTARIO IT LOOKS LIKE THE CFNY PARTY, COULD BE OUT AT CENTRE ISLAND TOO...

  • DEFINITELY TORONTO 1990

  • I can't say I'm over the moon about the Bublé ad I saw before this.

Though it went a long way to drive home how much better the Hip are.

  • I prefer this version to the remastered cut on Yer Favourites :) so good

  • had the pleasure of seeing them play this live several times. I am sure I passed 2nd year calculus at university because of this song, it keep me alive during those long nights of studying. It kept me watching hockey in a cold arena. It made me feel alive. Well, that's the Hip. "takes all your power, but you don't care, I'm not Cordelia, I will not be there". It doesn't get better. Listen to 700 foot ceiling if you are a canuck or want to understand one.

  • Thank you CANADA for the HIP.

    You ROCK.

  • I love this song... Personally, I don't get the new TH music.

  • my fav Hip song ....

  • im not codeea theres nuppy there

  • im from nz and was introduced to the hip whilst in canada in 95". dang fine!

  • fucking amazing!...... DIE IN YOUR DREAMS!

  • It must be from either a CFNY picnic at Molson Park or at the very least a CFNY-sponsored outdoor event given the CFNY banner seen at ~ 2:25 ... ?

  • fucking amazing............chills

  • "Just to see how far down it really is!!!!"

  • My guess is that this is from the CBC special that aired right before the Fully Completely came out (at least that is when I first saw it). Playing at some fort in Kingston I think.

  • My guess is that this is from the CBC special that aired right before the Fully Completely came out (at least that is when I first saw it). Playing at some fort in Kingston I think.

  • @craigallenagency Actually Fully Completely is 1992 and that is when the CBC special you are refering to aired. This video is from 1990 right before Road Apples came out.

  • @craigallenagency This is from Edgefest at Molson Park in Barrie, Ontario on Canada Day. July 1 1990.

  • @TheJordman66 This video is NOT from Canada Day 1990

  • Dear god...Gord Downie with hair....like...a lot of hair....strange times

  • canada's beatles!

  • The Hip is a national treasure. They just simply rock. Cordelia, Blow at High Dough, Grace Too and so many more. They are truly one of the best bands in the history of rock music.

  • from the album road apples, still my favourite hip album!!!!

  • Molson Park Barrie?

  • my name is cordelia

  • Best Canadian rock band since Rush.

  • What an awesome clip - the sound is excellent! Can't imagine how cool it would have to been to hear this ahead of the release...

  • The greatest Canadian band of all time!

  • As well as everything else, the drumming in this makes me crazed with love for music!

  • The Hip absolutely Kicks Ass! Enough said.

  • @TheRockerchick1993 Got that right!

  • Yes James twice! 93 and 95!

  • 4 dislikes what the fuck!!!

  • Thank You...!!

  • Pure...

  • Is there more footage of this show???

  • @muconium I only have one more song - but it is the same excellent quality

  • Who let that stinky hippy on stage, and why is he so good at singing?

  • rename the video to heksenketel - cordelia

  • 100% Absolute LOVE for the hip

  • Ahhhh! fabulous Gord.. soo awesome... his voice is just magnificent!!!

  • gord downy is god but he fucked up the lyrics bad in this video

  • This guy is so weird, but his vocals are so incredibly amazing!

  • unreal album

  • seeing the Hip live should be on every Canadian bucket list

    I know it's on mine

  • Gords best vocals in this song

  • everyone should see them live it a great show

  • sure this isn't The Key in Bala?

  • They were really at their zenith then- they hadn't quite broken through yet and were still really raw and not as slick as they have become. I've seen them live many, many times and they are always entertaining.

  • killer

  • Edge fest maybe? it was held at molson park for the longest time.......right up to when it was a massive grow op

  • Best video on YouTube, no kidding!

  • @celerogilmour i agree, cant stop watching

  • the bass guitar is so clear on this recording.. I love it! :)

  • The Hip at their Best ..Just Awesome stuff !!

  • pay attention americans.. this is music.

  • So F`n Cool...

  • Pretty sure my Bro-inlaw was there mixer, sound, lights etc... around this time.

  • i thought this song came out in '91?

  • @nathanomgnathan This album was released in February 1991 but this video was recorded in 1990 and released as promotional material to support the album.

  • @tthip no wonder he fuckin owns the shit out of this performance, hes feelin it more than i knew, good info brah, lol

  • Genius? Yup. I remember sitting in the Horseshoe in TO and buying Gord a beer after the set. Shit, it was great. And then so was Poets 10 years later and Nautical later... In fact, I consider Nautical to be one of their finest (although Cordelia is my fav live), along with 100th and 38 years old.

  • This still makes me think The hip were a band that were designed for a person like me.

  • 1st time i saw the hip was roadside attraction at craven sask. 95 or 96 cant remember.my 1st real concert too. a classic. they lead it off with grace too.funny story my buddy lost a sandal on the way in to the crowd at the stage. we were there for about 2 hours till the hip were done and on the way out he tripped and looked down and it was his missing sandal that tripped him up .

  • I'm a rocker born and bred. But when my friends tell me they know the best band ever and say "disturbed" or something I have to give them an education, Gord. You are seriously a saint, as long as you're singing us Canucks'll be listening.

  • Actually, the Hip have a strong following in the U.S. I have seen them close to 20 times in the last 20 years. Love the fact that I could see them in small vunues in the States.

  • Molson Park I believe

  • Played catch with these guys behind Liberty Lunch in Austin, TX. 1991. Just regular guys that let us throw the ball around with them to kill time before the show. Show was one of the best I've ever seen.

  • @supbeyotch thats pretty cool :D too bad they didnt break into the US scene... i never got that. they evreything -a wicked rock and roll band. but no love from down south :*(

  • THIS SONG = ROCK and ROLL baby!

  • I'm pretty possitive this is in Markham... Another Road Side Attraction. One of the best times I've ever had at a concert.

  • @JamesCecilia Actually Another Roadside Attraction was not established until 1993 - and this video is from 1990.

  • @tthip thats Molson park In Barrie, Ontario

  • @tthip True, I was at Another Roadside Attraction in '93 and Gord has less hair.

  • @JamesCecilia I seen them in WPG in '95 best concert of my life! Also had Ziggy Marley (bob marleys son) & Blues Traveler at the same concert. I still hear people talking about that concert today. That was Epic!

  • @JamesCecilia it may have been, as I was there, but I don't think they started this late? I think this may be the same tour though, at Molson Park Barrie? I remember after Hothouse Flowers left the stage it was about 4-430PM? You would have remembered me in Markham Fairgrounds though....I was with 4 guys building a beer cup pyramid out of empty cups and the cops came and pushed them over just as we put up the last cup of about 100? The WHOLE beer tent went nust and yelled BS! LMAO

  • @rockyourworld1967 .. Wait a minute, are you saying the Hip played at Markham Fair ? What!?

  • AWESOME,and thats not saying enough,I love the HIP,original lyrics and all.

  • love gordie, love the hip. his voice live is a force to be reckoned with ...

  • greatest live voice ever man, by far

  • Wow, Gordy hasn't aged a bit, like not in the slightest. It's kind of astonishing - what a cool guy. :P

  • "Angst on a plane, spittin' from a bridge, just to see how far down it really is. Robbin' a bank, jumpin' from a train, old antiques a man alone can entertain"....some of the best stuff ever put in song. "treading the boards, screaming out MacBeth, just to see how much bad luck you really get"....if only they had kept this raw power all along, still love 'em but you do wish they'd release another Road Apples eh?

  • wow this brings back SSSOOOO many childhood memories..geezz what it would it have been like without the hip playing in the background?? Looks tome like this was preformed outside and to me that's still the best place to see a hip concert!!

  • So hard to believe this was nearly 20 years ago.

  • JUST TO SEE HOW FAR DOWN IT REALLY IS!

  • Awesome song......one of my favourites

  • Why is it that I never get tired of listening to the Hip?

  • this is the best version on youtube

  • We should all be proud to have grown up listening to his lyrics.

These guys kept us cool, and reved us up in the dressing room before big games.

Solid musicianship and poetry all around.

Dylan like lyrics mixed with Rolling Stone guitar and drums ,,,,, Sorry guys I'm drunk.....

  • best tragically hip song ever written

  • I saw the Hip perform this on their first trip into VT, back in 91/92. They performed on a Lake Champlain Ferry boat...Gordie was all over the place, so into the music and enviroment, when he sang the line "spitting from a bridge...just to see how far down it really is", he was on his tip-toes like he WAS on the edge of the edge of the bridge, his arms were spinning backwards to keep him on the bridge and his eyes were rolled right back into his eyelids...Fucking WOW!!

  • yeah he is awesome, first time I saw him sing Bobcaygen live when he sang about seeing the sky falling one star at a time he was looking way up and to the left than out of nowhere started dodging the stars as they fell. and started to tell the crowd to look out

  • that's someone who's totally into the music their preforming

  • He enjoyed the hair while it lasted.

  • Gord channels Morrison and Coleridge when he's onstage!!

  • Gordon Downie should've never stopped being a hippie. I know he's all "green" now, which is great and all, but just look at that hair.

  • Actually, I think genetics made his hair decisions for him!

  • yeah he definitely started balding and said fuck this hair business

  • im pretty sure it wasn't his choice, it looks like male pattern baldness to me.

  • I believe this is at kingston. It was from a CBC special.

  • that looks like ontario place

  • in a good way :), i saw them last night in hamilton, on. amazing show!

  • Gord downie with a beard...woof

  • i am not cordelia

  • look at gordies hair and side burns lol

  • Yeh man...to bring back the shows in the 80's and 90's would just be awesome. As with all things, they tend to fade. Gordy is one of the most underrated frontman of his time.

  • I love The Hip!!! Saw them 8 times between Ont and NS. Not keen on their new stufff though....

  • The new stuff is too mellow.

C'mon guys - just because you've hit your mid 40s, you don't have to write ballads all the time.

  • such an amazing underrated song for the greatest band around

  • I love that this is a live version and still sound exactly like the album version. Gordie has a real voice none of the fake studio magic vocals.

  • Definitely wasted, but does it matter?

  • Absolutely Luuv The Hip!! Have Seen Them Live 3 Times And Would Def Go Again...Thx Loads 4 Uploading This Oldie But Goodie....Rock The @#%$ On! :D

  • Got my ticket for Amsterdam, 27th of november! Can't wait!

  • dude thats my birthday. going to a hip concert in amsterdam would be the best thing ever.

  • People dont really know who the hip are. ignorant fools

  • I was on the road last week listening to Road Apples and this song has been stuck in my head ever since! definatly not complaining about it though.,,,this song rocks!!!

  • i love the hip im there # 1 fan i know everything about them and i can play ever single one of there kick ass tracks

  • Best band the world doesn't know about..and thank God for that

    The Hip rule!

  • jeez gord downie looks wasted on the stage

  • One of my favourite Hip songs that was never a single.

  • woops, turns out it was a single... it just didn't get as much (if any) radio airplay as the other singles off "Road Apples". That album was just THAT good!

  • R.I.P gordie's hair :(

  • Higher than a kite...anamalistic...just awesome. Saw some shows in the 80's and 90's and Gordie has a stage presence that rivals much more famous frontmen.

Thanks much to my Canadian cousins for getting me on to this band back in 1986!

  • 1990 is just about when the band really took off! Love it!

  • Gord at his best.

  • best performers EVER, cant wait for the july2nd show!!!!!!!!

  • Can t wait to see them on august the first!!!!

  • This is one of the most beautiful examples of human emotion I've seen on stage

  • And, I'm certain they've listened and enjoyed some Jethro Tull. You can hear it in his voice and in the music too.

  • I saw them at the Backstage in Ballard in 1990(?). I danced my ass off in front of the stage for a good hour and got Gordy's autograph about half-way through. I'd love to see video of that!

  • This is the real deal kiddies!!!

  • that's god dam EPIC!! Back when shit was good.

  • I can't stop watching this video!!!

  • Cheers... Going on the fourth.

  • crazy that this is from 1990 i was born 89... 20 years ago and the hip are still goin strong

  • Holy shit

  • rockandroll

  • best hip song ever!

  • IMO, Road Apples is the best Hip album. Nothing was "radio" oriented at the time of the album. Radio was forced to play it, because of its popularity. Beautiful!!!

  • Man oh man. I have never seen this side of Gord before. I have seen the Hip 6 times but it has all been after year 2000. Now he's old and Bald and a legend. Back in this video he hasn't yet fine tuned his dancing abilities.

  • aw man, someone just put me on to them, and i am blowing away, not what i was expecting, better a thousands times as i was expecting

  • I'm not ...........beer happy yet......

  • i was at that show too. so drunk i tripped over someones cooler and landed on two people.

  • it might be ontario place aug 90. thats' where i saw them haven't seen i'm since. best night of my life, still have the tickets, got them from some guy in line at the bar outside, his friends didn't show, paid 2 beers for them.wicked

  • I`m sure thats Molson Park in Barrie Ontario on July1st 1990 Canada Day Festival Or better known back then as the CFNY102.1 Picnic!!! That brings back so many memories that was the place to be on Canada Day!!!!!!

  • spitting from a bridge, just to see how far down it really is....

  • Raw Unaldurated Talent....

    Simply Brilliant.

  • This is brilliant! So old school...I love Johnny's pony-tail...Paul has got the bad ass cigarette hanging from his mouth...and Gord Sinclar's mullet. I gotta say...Downie really had an amazing vibrato to his voice back then..truely epic!

  • my enjoyment of this band is very lots

  • This band is so good their not pushed to perform alongside dead acts such as those featured at SARStock as a parody of their former selves.

  • Mr Downie... your my fucking HERO! !! +1

  • Classic song.......that's it....a classic....

  • gord...r god..

  • He is our Jim Morrison...with enough respect to stick around and let us share his genius. thanks Gord.

  • hey i say the same thing, hes alot like jim. good ole gord. i dunno about the respect thing though, jim died cause of o.d he didnt blow his head off like ole kurty so he could die at 27.

  • Try doing a little research.

Vedder's first commercially successful album was released in 1991.

The Hip had their first wildly successful album in 1989.

Cordelia was released in 1991, but remains true to how the Hip had sounded since their origins prior 1987.

Bill Hicksian logic here: Gord must be copying Vedder, and to really throw everyone off he did it before Vedder was famous.

  • Gord lies in a realm where all are beyond comparison!

  • What about an agoraphobic Neil Young that hates to leave Nothern Ontario?

  • Mr Downie... your my fucking HERO!

  • The Hip used to come to Tucson to warmup for thier tours at a little bar downtown....they blew the place apart.....saw em 3/4 times...rock at its finest....

  • I like the hip but sometimes like in this song I wish they'd push down the gaspedal to extasy y'know?

  • Awesome.......

  • Awesome, that Was totally Hip To the Max What a Song.. Too Awesome

  • Wow.

  • Only the Gordfather could pull off a grubby ass shirt like that. One of the best Hip songs but then again there are far too many greats to sift through and choose.

  • yaaaaaaaaaa, love it, just fucking love it.

  • Man I love Gord Downie...great effing performance.
