I feel Lindelof shouldn't be worried about criticism. It's a fact that he's a genius, or at least very near that - for coming up with 6 brilliant, coherent, classic seasons of pure cinematic and literary brilliance.
Being that smart, cultured doesn't necessarily come with a supreme sense of confidence, yet in his case he shouldn't feel any threat at all. He's the architect, he knows better than anyone the tiny flaws and the huge quality of the show.

i'm a HUGE fan of the first 2 seasons. they were well done in every sense. but there is NO defense for the last 4 seasons and how putridly awful they were.

They didn't really answer any questions about the Island, but if you look at it in perspective with the rest of the seasons, all the answers to many mysteries were resolved. However if you read the posts earlier this year, before Lost went into the final episodes there were a lot of "spoilers" coming from the cast and crew which answered many questions. Over on Justin TV someone gave away the "whispers" secret in January and gave away what Black Smoke Locke really was. This was not a Character driven show, it was fan driven.
I don't know whether or not it was fan driven, they hinted at the afterlife in an earlier episode now that I think about it, it was the sawyer centric episode, he was watching little house on the prairie and the father said something involving heaven.

There were lots of hints early on that the castaways were actually in the after life, but then they shifted that all around with their return to LA in season 5. *Sigh* thank the gods that Fringe was renewed.
