@MadJackIII "Sure Nuff N Yes I Do" by Captain Beefheart & The Magic Band, off their fantastic debut album Safe As Milk. If you're not familiar with the good captain, get on that right away, and enjoy.
i hear alot of fleetwood mac in her singing and style. as a matter of fact, if you slow down "the chain", particularly that middle base part, it sounds alot like this. these guys are fucking sick. this song, i feel is by far their best. very late 60's eraly 70s influence, which is exactly what we need. Thankfully, those bluesy days are comin home!
Saw them at Outside lands and they were just about the best band there! If you think Jack White is using a track you are insane. See bands live, then judge.
I watched Outside Lands via the pipes and Id say almost for sure there was a track playing. like 100% for sure. like he wasnt even in the throne and there was a beat playing
Jack always will be crunchy good...can't be beat. All others will only follow. Can't wait to see what he does next when he gets bored with Dead Weather. Yummy good Jack!!!
First off, it's a fill (just for future reference). Secondly, of course it makes sense! To each their own style, and based off Jack's unique setup of his kit you can tell he's not your "average" drummer. If you want to continue delving into this subject I suggest you pick up a copy of Moder Drummer, it's pretty insightful and well... you'll definately know how to spell... phyll, HAHAHA!
Sure Nuff 'n' Yes I Do by Captain Beefheart if you guys don't know what that opening song is... Hell yeah Dead Weather! I've been listening to nothing but them for a couple days now..
Pay attention to Jack drumming, the first minute of the actual song. I don't know if it's a video lag, but every time he's about to strike the drums, it almost looks like he's gonna miss his mark, and go offbeat. Pay attention, and try to see what I mean.
its a lag;) you hear the drums before he hits them... so either he is just THAT good, he doesnt need to hit the drums in time and stills he's on beat...
INTRO tune!! Awesome..many thanks..nice vid clarity too...We saw them twice so far live, very nice EVERY TIME. A great mix of musicians.Love them all.
These show great potential I believe they have good chemistry and they have a presence on the stage most other bands can't match. Along with some very musically talented people.
I agree with joelvision, AND there's a whole pre-hippie beatnick scene in the late 50's, early 60's that this band is marvelously reminiscent of, with a strong dash of New Orleans jazz and blues thrown in. These guys have an amazing alternative rock band going here, so raw and emotional.
i've said this before but i think it's very true... and what is perhaps so special about this band, is that i dont think they really sound like any scene before them. true, there are some elements of new orleans jazz and mutant blues thrown in, but unlike the raconteurs, which is an obvious homage to 70s arena rock, the dead weather presents such an indubitably new raw sound. it's so new its so exciting.
I don't care what any of you dumbshits say, Mosshart brings a Joplin-esque presence to the mic. She doesn't overdo it, she's not over the top. She comes off as comfortable in her own skin. I don't know what the fuck anyone else is looking for, but with the music they're playing, it's fucking perfect.
joplinesque? lol. allison is nothing like joplin. allison drip with this post-apocalyptic raw and spiky sex groove. joplin was incredibly soft, mellow, drugged out, sure they both shout... but their general style is very very different. however i do agree with everything you said post joplin comment. i did think she was over the top but then i saw them live in nyc, its a totally different experience. best concert of my life
and i thought i was the only one havin a thing against mossart. yeah, somehow she doesnt quite cut it, quite mediocre, a little trying.. oh well, but the overall sound is pretty great and jack is pure class so thumbs up
I've really tried to like the Dead Weather, but Allison Mossart makes me sick. I don't know why I hate her, but every time she starts sing I start disliking the song. And I love everything else that I've heard from Jack White. And I like the way the band sounds, but she just fucks up the whole thing for me.
I've never been a fan of the Kills, and their live show is NOTHING compared to the unbeatable White Stripes. Mosshart is alright, but doesn't have 1% of Jack's charisma, or Meg's for that matter. All she does is strut around with her hair in her face trying to be cool. Jack's charisma is burning a hole in her back, and the guy is just drumming. As long as Jack White is part of the equation I'm there, the guy is a bonafide rock icon.
That would be your Captain Beefheart with the fabulous and sexy Zoot Horn Rollo on electric slide guitar. Check out Mr. Rollo's autobiography from about ten years ago. The Captain practically held the band against there will somewhere in the California desert, force-feeding then psychedelics and speed so they could rehearse for weeks at a time.

love this song jack white is my fricking idol and hes hardly in this. The rest are fricking awesome all on top form. This song is so sexy and sleazy. Saw em perform at Glastonbury Alison Mossheart was pretty much shaggin the mic stand. Awesome with awesome sauce
Verbal diarrhea sorry! (thanks for shooting me down) Was just trying to say hes taken more of a back seat playing the drums on every song. He only gets up and plays guitar on one song and hes the lead singer on just two.
I love this band and their attitude I just want to see Jack White on guitar a lot more!
im seeing them here in columbus on the 25th. i cant wait man. jack white is so fuckin great. cmon white stripes, i know that album will be sick, making us wait this long.
gotta say this would pack alot more punch if jack white were singing it. i hope he brings his a game to the next stripes album. i wasnt a huge fan of icky thump but i loved everything before that.
the white stripes were supposed to make an album this year, but it's unlikely now that he's moved on to the dead weather i don't think its possible to be in 3 bands at the same time and the white stripes haven't played together for a while
Really? If thats true then thats great! But, thats just what Wikipedia(not the greatest source) says. and its not a white stripes movie, its "It Might Get Loud" a documentary about guitar and Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge are in it.
White totally looks like he's trying to destroy that set! And I'm sorry folks, but if y'all think Jack's new band is crap, then you shouldn't bother commenting on it! Jus' a thought!
I can't enjoy this singer's egocentric blind performance. I bet she's the same everywhere she plays too. Same moves and curls and what not. Sorry but, boring plastic shit.

Jesus, if you guys wanna talk about white stripes go do that at a white stripes video. I personally think Dead Weather is better than any of the new shit white stripes have put out.
Sounds great! This makes me excited to see them in Minneapolis!. I like that the warm up song was "Sure 'nuf 'n yes I do". I've heard The White Stripes cover "Ashtray Heart" and "Party Of Special Things To Do". Much respect for the Beefheart.
I want WHITE STRIPES!!!! What happend with Meg White? I don't want to hear more Jack White's band... It's good but this never won't match The White Stripes
I think we've heard the shit out of White Stripes, Jack is unreal but every time he pumps out a different individual guitar rift the drums come and play the same shit. Meg is horrid, please dont give me this " SHES JUST PLAYUING SIMPLE FOR A RASEON JEEEZ" She adds nothing to the band, simple drums are what jack is playing in this, Too often do the words simple and shitty get mixed up.
Meg's the best part of the band. Yeah she sucks, Jack doesn't care. Jack's just like "Give me a beat and keep it so I can fucking wail for 20 songs without stopping."
Yeah the drumming is pretty basic, but hey look on the bright side. They've managed to make a living, tour their asses off, play for millions...and you're still just sitting in your mom's basement! Give me basic drumming over eating Dorito's with you on a Saturday night any day.
Well i can't argue against that. Doritos's are delicious. Perhaps we can play some basic drumming and eat doritos at the same time.... can we hang out now?
I'm going to the Roseland in Portland, OR in August. If I actually got to meet Jack I think I'd die on the spot! I'd die a happy woman, but DEAD none the less! He is the epitome of classic rock and roll. LOVE HIM!!!
hell yeah

Nothing is ever as powerful as the original, but think of all the material that would be tossed out if Jack were only in TWS.

Give me basic drumming over eating Dorito's with you on a Saturday night any day.

it sounds alot like the kills drumming track. very basic is the philosophy i think of the band. like in the white stripes.

LOVE HIM!!!
