Just tune it manually. There's more annoying things about playing guitar like changing strings. Make a robot that'll do that and trim the excess string off and then I'll happily tune the damn thing in.
You can get close but an oscilloscope is the only this that can count that many wavelengths.
Problem I have is that even at perfect opening tuning no guitar has perfect setup so it will sound out of tune higher up the neck -OR- when doing chords at the top of the neck.
You can't have it both ways.
I have figured out it is possible to angle of file the frets to compensate for difference in string radius sizes.
guys i have played 6 different instruments for years and years. GIve this kid a break. This is frigging cool and creative. Lets all stop being so negitive. Self Tunning is an important skill. This is just cool
Maybe you'll have a nicer, longer lasting tuning sound with the natural harmonic, let it ring longer and use a PID algorithm to tune it fast while ringing. Just a thought.
i'll stick to manualy tuning my strings actualy showing some musical skill. The machine is awsome but i see it only making up and comeing musicians dependent on this machine instead of haveing the knoledge to be able to tume by ear.
If you already have the knowledge whats the point? A big musician paid around $3k for a guitar that auto tunes itself. Much more convenient than this but he has been playing for 30 years. So it makes you less of a musician because you let the guitar tune itself? Doesn't make sense.
i guess they made this coz there's pride in doing something, i think it's a great proyect, and it seems like nobody here knows shit about electronics, because what those kids did, it's actually pretty complicated stuff
no, actually 4 my first guitar i got it at target and it wuz called a fender STARCASTER(no typo) the neck was incredibly thick, it never stayed in tune, the frets were dangerously sharp, the standard strings rusted in a week and the sound wuz terrible.
i got that same guitar from Sam's Club like two years ago. It was horrible. But it came with a strap, picks, cables, amp, and all sorts of other great stuff :D
its called overpriced, and secondly your ibanez sucked because you bought the LOWEST END model. An Ibanez Prestige S series > fender strat anyday. If you havent played a real Ibanez , then your probably dont appreciate them.
it looks like robocop's first guitar D:

@LukeQuietus Thats true, but auto tuners are commonly used in loud situations (gigs for example)
or maybe for a beginner.

Its 50 times bigger than the Trans Performance and only does one string at once...
must really take some talent to build something like that yourself though. I looked into it doing it myself and gave up. XD

a) Its home made. Means that they probably find joy in making things as that.
b) The robot guitars cost silly amounts of money.
