There are a few things to point out. While the Puritan ideals were over-the-top, they did believe in education, oppose monarchy, and were very industrious. The Restorationists were supporters of monarchy, and had very anti-democratic ideas, including those of women's rights. At least both the puritan husband and wife suffered more-or-less equally.

To stick up for the puritans a bit, they endorsed full literacy for all women. The restoration brought back the view that reading was too much for the "fragile mind" of a woman. That could have been fun to poke at.
