  • I was at the Town and Country Club gig

  • quality

  • Fucking class! Puts that x factor shite in the ha'penny place

  • nice intro from Joe Strummer there and great vocals frok Kirsty. Remember seeing this when it came out when Pogues were probably at the height of their powers. Great stuff

  • stugats1 i agree joe was a great lad really knew what talents was he had loads himself and could really see it all he once said the pogues are the only group that wont create ear wax and all the rest will create brain damage

  • this aint music it is whats known as heaven

  • could be as perfect as song as there is.. Miss you Mr Strummer

  • this is a fantastic song if world knew how to listen the tune is the best melody ever only shane could these words to life

  • Brilliant! Thanks for posting this.

  • do they know how good they are? love them

  • Great, great song. One of my favorite Pogues tunes (though there's so many to choose from). Everyone praises Shane as the brilliant songwriter/genius/god etc, etc.....and so they should (God knows I do)....but there is no denying that the band itself is beyond brilliant. One of the tightest, most recognizable bands you'll ever hear.

  • made me cry as always

  • Perfect!

  • Great poetry from the Bard McGowan..

  • praise indeed from joe strummer, he knows what hes talking about...shanes the finest songwriter of the 20th century.

  • Pissed, as usual.....

"may they all sleep tight down in hell to night, or where ever they might be"

  • xmas is coming- so are the pogues- ah one more time- brixton academy- something special about the pogues and that venue- luv it- this song is one of my fav all time pogue classics..

  • As maybe hundreds before'em, Shane's absolutely one of a kind...poet, singer, man of words, but certainly one of a kind. On our reckoning day, each of us either added to tbis world, took from this world or just stood by and watched....Shane without a doubt adds to this world...and the band played on...

  • "May the wind that blows

    from haunted graves

    Never bring you misery."

    a classic poem from shane.

  • Love Shane: Writes so well, sings so cool, looks so cute!:D

  • KISS MY ARSE!!

  • Rest in Peace Kirsty!!We miss you so much!!

  • happy 50th birthday shane

  • Ha, Spider's wearing a Metallica t-shirt.

    awesome.

  • to hear strummer sum up the pogues is like eating a geourgeous punk sandwich.

  • Andist, are you the tit that posts on that macgowan website?? With a statment like " i met shane an his girlfriend a few weeks back" I'd put money on it!! tit

  • I've never posted on a Macgowan website but sorry mate, I DID meet Shane and Victoria about a month back, we share the same doctor. I've met him twice now and he's a diamond bloke. Victoria seemed very pleased that I'd read her book. You must have your head right up his anus to be this bothered.YOU TIT!!

  • I met Shane and his girlfriend a few weeks back

  • God, I love this.

  • Damn? Did they officially release this on DVD? I paid top dollar to get the laserdisc from a collector and then bought a laserdisc player just to view and capture it to my PC. Oh well. I stand by my decision. I also think that this is a miracle of modern songwriting.

  • God bless Kirsty MacColl and god bless the feckin Pogues

  • Isn't that the late Kirsty Macoll?

  • Never heard this song with the female background vocal before. Very nice.

  • You Irishmen has so much culture to be proud of... I`m Norwegian myself.. our folk songs arent half as catchy as this, perheps only when its blended with metal (Norwegian metal that is quite popular abroad)... Thou I`ve newer been a real metalhead, even thou i fancy many types Rock. I love Irish folk music!

  • OK, I did`t mean that we Norwegian ain`t proud of our culture.. I`ts just that our folk music (in it`s pure form) can be so boooooring

  • Para todos aqueles para quem esta banda foi "alma": It´s hard to pick the greatest song from the Pogues, but this one is surely one of the best. The lyrics are simply fantastic! Rudolfo, Caparica, Portugal.

  • Ainda bem que vejo que os Pogues nao estao esqucidos ca por Portugal.

That's true, it's not easy to choose one, this, thousands are sailing, A pair of brown Eyes are realy gemsv in my view.

    Cheers from Portugal

  • I haven't been back to Ireland in over a year, but seeing this show and hearing the tunes makes me wanna go home, so I'm booking it today!

  • is this on some dvd i can buy???

  • get the dvd - pogues live at the town and country club, london.

  • Is that with Shane?

  • yeah - shane's there.

recorded on St. Patrick's Day 1988

    here is the set list:-

Metropolis / Broad Majestic Shannon / If I Should Fall From Grace With God / Rainy Night In Soho / Thousand Are Sailing / Fairytale Of New York / Lullaby Of London / Dirty Old Town / London's Calling with Joe Strummer / Turkish Song Of The Damned / Fiesta / Irish Rover / Worms / Rudi - A Message To You / Wild Rover

  • they`ve been so fuckin special in those days

  • Indeed, Liam. This is actually my favorite Pogues song of all time.

#2 is "Thousands are Sailing," a tune my great-grandfather would have undoubtedly identified with on his voyage from Ireland to here in America.

(Standard disclaimers apply: I'm a Bush-hating liberal and think my country is going to hell - it's not MY fault - I voted against him twice!) :)

  • Loe the discalimer. Yes, this song rocks. Shane, the poet, is god. Chane, the drunk, is a shame.

  • The Poet-singer speaks, ye must listen and learn and take heart.
