What I would reccomend to you, assuming it wasn't saving anything, would be to remove the game card. It should then display a black screen with something like, "the game card has been removed. Please restart the system." I own one and this is what happened the one time I accidentally ejected the card during sleep mode.
Should have bought an iPhone.

I held start and the power button for a couple seconds until the screen blinks and it kinda unfroze itself

Is there a way to take out the battery?, If so, take that out it will reset it, Happens to me all the time with other things.
