@Joecbg100 Its name literally translates @The trout@ and Moriarty made it clear what it was about. Does he look like the type of man that makes up stuff?
Bostridge couldn't muster a quarter of the sound or pathos Pears can on an opera stage - the thought of him attempting Peter Grimes or any of the roles written for Pears by Britten is ludicrous. Bostridge sings the music very correctly, which he and Pears have in common, but interpretively he adds nothing, it's done precisely as written with no addition. I understand what you're saying, but I don't believe Bostridge does any of the things that made Pears special.
So who exactly is he a musical hero to? I don't know anyone that would say that. Just saying "omg no" doesn't mean anything, you're not making any kind of a point. If you don't agree with me, then I ask you to find me a single clip, a SINGLE clip of Bostridge singing an opera live without electronic amplification. I'm saying Bostridge and Pears don't have much in common, and if you disagree tell me with what part, and why.
The beauty and happiness of a wild animal is destroyed by a unsportsmanlike predator using dishonest means--- it's hardly a cheery based on the words. However the accompaniment is certainly playful.
@Spanglefeather Die catcher (er) and the narrator (ich) is the same person in the literary work. That seems hard to understand for people not accustomed to the German romantic hunter figure.
The beauty and happiness of a wild animal is destroyed by a unsportsmanlike predator using dishonest means--- it's hardly a cheery based on the words. However the accompaniment is certainly playful.
Anyone who knows Victor Borge will understand why, at the beginning of this video, my first instinct was to say "Hands off, please."
That aside, Ian Bostridge is one of my favorite tenors in the light English/German art song style (i.e. he should not do Wagner if he values his life). I've heard him on everything from this to Britten and he does them really, really well.
In my opinion Ian Bostridge sings this beautifully.I would certainly recommend his version to anyone new to this magic music of Schubert, Its hard to believe I know but there are people who are unaware of the beauty of this wonderful genre,How they are missing out, mind you we can,t all like the same things.

Die Zeit zu lang. Er macht
Das Bächlein tückisch trübe,
Und eh ich es gedacht,
So zuckte seine Rute,
Das Fischlein zappelt dran,
Und ich mit regem Blute
Sah die Betrogene an.

Ein Fischer mit der Rute
Wohl an dem Ufer stand,
Und sahs mit kaltem Blute,
Wie sich das Fischlein wand.
So lang dem Wasser Helle,
So dacht ich, nicht gebricht,
So fängt er die Forelle
Mit seiner Angel nicht.
tonylin0711 2 years ago
In einem Bächlein helle,
Da schoß in froher Eil
Die launische Forelle
Vorüber wie ein Pfeil.
Ich stand an dem Gestade
Und sah in süßer Ruh
Des muntern Fischleins Bade
Im klaren Bächlein zu.
