  • @LPChip no i mean how do you convert your file into MP3 ?

    sorry for my bad english

  • @kerenbgtgue1 You can't really convert your savefile into MP3. You need to record it to MP3. Hook your DS headphones up to your computer line-in port using a minimale-jack to minimale-jack audiocable. Then at your computer use an audio recording program to record anything that is played on your nintendo DS. Play the song while recording, and once you have the recording made, save it as mp3. (or save as wave, and then convert the wave to mp3)

  • @kerenbgtgue1 check out this video. It tells you exactly how to do it. youtube.com/watch?v=f7Q1rFUhu_U

  • MP3 file ? how ?

  • @kerenbgtgue1 Click on more information, here on youtube, and at the bottom there's a link to the mp3 file. Right click, save-as if normal clicking doesn't give you a download option.

  • I have a question: how you make an effect over a sound last and evolve more than just a pattern? I know I'm not clearly explaining, but youtube doesn't allow me to put a link to an example...

But obviously you can hear from your korg ds10 the first demo song.

Listen to what happens to the fifth pattern, when it is repeated.

The sound get more and more "crunchy" 'till it change pattern.

How do you get that thing?

  • @Absintize You need to apply a Synth patch for that. (see 7:30 in this video)

This allows you to change a knob's setting while the song plays. At the top left, there's a mode to sync it to BPM. If you sync to BPM, this will reset on each pattern change. If you don't sync on BPM, it will flow through the whole song (like I did with my wind in Within a Deep Forest)

If that doesn't help you enough, please refer to the manual that came with the DS-10.

  • @LPChip

    I understand what you say.

One last question, only in order to clarify: in this way you mention, I can "record" the effect? I mean, I want to automatize the whole thing, in order not to have to do it "live", but to have the effect goin' in the song.

However, thank you for the reply :)!!

  • @Absintize No, you don't record the effect. An LFO basically makes a knob go up and down all the time, varied in speed, direction and width. Would you record, you would be able to set exactly what position the knob would be in. This is of course possible using the Kaoss settings, but then its fixed and exactly the same every pattern. By using a patchcable its dynamic over the course of many patterns. Just play with it, and it will make sense immediately. Duplicate what I did in this song.

  • Fantastic sound! It gets me the inspiration to (as you say) get out of the box, and find some sweet sounds of mine!

I'm ultimating a first try of a song (barely electronic stuff) and I'm falling in love with this software!

The second try will probably be something more like this song!

  • how i can get this?

  • @Yirashi I am probably not getting your question, but... press play?

  • @LPChip I mean, i got a r4 card, can i download this game?:o

  • @Yirashi Ah. I actually have no idea. I bought the game. Its cheap, the DS-10 Plus is cheaper and everything in this video can be done with that. Its so worth its money, you should just buy it, not download it.

  • I love playing with the Korg iMS-20 but this looks more my speed!( and by that I mean easier to use) ;)

  • Very nice music! I haven't tried doing anything really slow on the DS-10, but I see there's lots of potential to do some beautiful work. I like it! Check out some of my DS-10 videos.

  • This could go in any Zelda or Pokemon game. Nice work.

  • Props!

  • Wow! this is awesome! I'll be getting my DS-10 plus soon. I can't wait to experiment. How do you get the songs off the DS? You said in the description that you replaced the audio with an inline recording?

  • @fadedsun303 Thanks. :) Yeah basically... You hook up your DS using the headphone and line-in of your computer. While you play the song on the DS, you record both using a camera and a wave editor. In the editor, save the wavefile, and then edit the movie with a movie editor to merge the two. For more info on recording through your line-in, there's a topic on the ds10forum (.com). I can't paste an url. Youtube doesn't allow me.

  • @LPChip Cool! thanks for the help. I just got my cart the other day and I've been messing around with creating sounds. I hope I can come up with stuff this good some day! Do you know where I can find any good tutorials that help explain how to create full songs? I've found the X-Seed lessons that help with creating sounds, but I still don't understand using the sequencers, patterns and all that other fun stuff.

  • @fadedsun303 Lets see if this works:

    ht tp // tiny.cc / vtj6k (remove the spaces)

  • Wow, this is incredibly good.

    Great work.

  • @marzy17 Thanks :)

  • hulk sleepy..

  • can you please please pleaseeeee give me the parameters to make the strings sound? =)

  • @Salohcin8940 I believe I've put this on the end of the movie. Note, that the effects are part of the sound.

  • that is sweet

  • @manta5x Thanks :)

  • This is great because it's outside the box of most DS-10 music I've heard so far on youtube and it doesn't sound like some ridiculous 8-bit nonsense.

  • @invid643 I forgot to mention the title is sweet too.

  • @invid643 Thanks. :) I'm glad you like it. I also don't like "the default" sound you get, so I went outside the box. :)

  • wov sounds like JM Jarre

  • @roflikFBR Thanks :D Thats a big compliment. :)

  • this has given me a lot of inspiration! just got mine yesterday and it's pretty amazing what you can do with one.. entering the crazy world of electronic music :D

  • @gyakuman: Great! I'm glad you like it.

  • Is this the best DS-10 video out there? OR IS IT THE BEST DS-10 video ever? 5 stars!

  • @antyplastyka: Thanks :) I can't agree that its the best DS-10 song, because I've actually made a better one that I'm going to upload in the future. But I really do like this one too. :)

  • Thats amazing, very atmospheric, wish i could do that wit my ds.

  • Thanks. Maybe you should give it a try. Its fun!

  • Sweet

  • Yeah, it is :)

  • very good man. I am not good at korg ds!

  • Thanks. :) Its always great to hear that people enjoy it. :) If you want to become good, play alot with it. :) I'm only this good because I carry 14 years of musical experience in my bag. :)

  • It's amazing what you can do with DS 10. All the power, in my opinion, lie within the effects boxes. That's where you can create all the wonderful new sounds and take it where it wasn't meant to go.

  • It certainly is amazing what you can do with a DS-10. Can you imagine what I'll come up with once the DS-10 plus comes out in europe?

As for the effectsboxes: it has great power, but with everything that has great power, If you can't tame it, It'll quickly overpower. :)

  • Good job dude, keep on it :)

  • Thanks :)

  • posso scrivere quello che voglio tanto tu non capisci l' italiano toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cmq bravissimos

  • Although I don't speek italian, I understoond bravissimos. X)

    Glad you like it.

  • I can't believe you made this on KORG DS; easily one of the best compositions I've heard. Seriously great work!

How long did it take you to create this, start to finish? Whenever I try to make something complicated I usually burn out quick.

  • Thanks. :) Yeah, I was fiddling around having a bit of an idea where I wanted to go. When I had the beginning of the first track laid out, it basically turned itself into what you hear. I think it took me about 5 or 6 sessions of 1 to 2 hours. Don't try to complete the song in one go. Work on 1 to 4 patterns, and then go listen to it a few times. This'll help you getting idea's.

  • OO'

So awesome! I can't wait to learn how to use DS-10 to it's full potential like you are.

    Great job. ^^

  • Thanks :D Glad you like it. :)

  • It's rare for me to see someone make an ambient (or any other) track using 10-45BPM (knowing how ridiculously slow that is!). This is actually the first time I've seen it done (very effectively, I might add).

This was a great listen, I'll definitely download the mp3, and I'll watch out for anymore recordings you may have. :)

  • :D Thanks. :) I'm sure you'll like the other vids I have on here aswell.

  • How did you learn how to use a synthesizer? I'm a newbie in it and it's really complicated for me :/ Good job btw.

  • Thanks.

I started learning synthesis by understanding what the idea is. Do a search about FM Synthesis on youtube to learn the principle. I used that knowledge to play around in VSTi plugins (virtual synthesizers) and even made my own VSTi using synthedit. It made me understand the principle of synthesis. With that, it wasn't hard to comprehend the logic behind the DS-10.

  • cool dam cool XD

  • your a boss.

  • Hugo Boss?

  • sounds like something for metroid awesome!

  • Thanks. :)

  • sounds very cool. I like it a lot!

  • Great :) thanks.

  • hehe, the old "cheat-a-verb" i do this all the time on my microkorg! lack of dedicated reverb effect made me very >:o. anyway you get the best sounds (and tunes) on the ds-10 out of anyone i have seen! :D

  • Thanks :) I'm glad you like them so much. :) I do my best to make great tunes, and I also love doing that too :)

  • This belongs in Super Mario.

  • Great stuff.. check out my beginnings of making some DS-10 tracks.

Let me know what you think.. I'm just starting so if you have any advice I'm certainly willing to listen.

Great stuff you've got here.. very effective.

  • Thanks :) I appreciate your feedback.

  • ya know i figured thats what you did i jsut asked incase because it seems liek that idea never crosses anybody.

  • Very nice ambient sounds you get from the synths!! I gotta try the "song" function, I never noticed it.

  • Thanks. The songmode is great :)

  • why does that sound so good on camera. lolol

  • Because the sound isn't from the camera. :)

I first recorded it using my camera, at the same time, I recorded the sound to a wave file using an audio cable. Then I altered the video and replaced the audio with the wave file I recorded. :) you can't get higher quality than this. :) (unless you get the mp3 version :P, see more info.)

  • Did you try to link the DS "headphones out" to the "mic in" of the video camera? You can have the audio track directly to the tape.

  • My camera doesn't have that. Instead I wired it to my PC and recorded the audio seperatelly. Afterwards, I included it in the video for high quality. :)

  • nice bro

  • tnx :)

  • awsome jam man its like takeing a trip into the dark said

  • That was the intension :)

    Glad you like it.

  • CURSED hinge crack!

    Great music anyways =)

  • Not really sure what that first sentence means, but I'm glad that you like the music. XD

  • Looks like you have the infamous hinge crack on your DS :\

  • Yeah, I have. Luckelly I have a new DS too that doesn't have the crack.

  • Very impressive work.

A truly excellent track with some totally unique and inspirational DS-10 manipulation.

  • Thanks :) Great that you like it so much. :) This one is still one of my favorites too. :)

  • is there anyway to download your song, or somehow download korg ds10 songs from the internet onto my ds? korg is just too complicated for me and i just need some songs, thx

  • No. This is because the DS can't simply store something online. The only method would be for us to meat IRL so I can transfer my songs from my DS to yours, but I'm not really willing to do that. This is still internet you know X)

  • Great stuff you're doing.

  • Thanks :)

  • Great song, it makes me wanna play Metroid.

  • I'm glad you like it. :)

  • so ive been messing around with korg now, and is there a way to incorporate the mixer in just one individual pattern. it seems like it will effect every pattern I do. so if I mix after I put my pattern in and am playing my song (like i drop out the snare for instance in one pattern.) then the snare will be dropped for all the other pattern too! does this make sense?

  • Its not possible to get around that. Yes its a limitation, but one you can live with, if you just keep it in mind.

  • Very nice

  • Thanks :)

  • Can you explain what you use to record the audio on(like specifically what I would need to buy, cause this quality is fantastic)?

  • A mini jack-male -> mini-jack male audio cable would be enough actually, depending on your computer.

One end goes in the headphones socket on the DS, the other one goes in the line-in socket on your sound card.

Do note: you could also plug it into the microphone socket, but the quality will be less due to the automatic gain on the mic port.

You then record what your line-in is receiving to a wav file, and replace the wav file from the movie with your other recorded one.

  • Ok, I got the sound to come out of my computer speakers via the line-in. It sounds great on my end, but the programs I've tried to record that sound with have made it sound like it was in a phone booth or something. What program do you use for recording?

  • Do you record to wav or mp3?

Wav recording should sound exactly like what you hear, unless ofcource you're not selecting the line-in as source for recording. You can also record using what you hear, but its recommended to not do that because that will record other sounds too, including the change by your EQ if you have that.

  • It was to .wav, but I think the problem was that there was no direct option for line-in recording. Instead, I had to use "What U Hear", which, like you said, alters the sound.

  • thats awesome man-. sounds really good

  • Thanks :)

  • cool song i liked it alot

  • Great :) Glad you liked it alot. :) I do hope you still like it X)

  • good song chip when composing do you use headphones or do you preamp your korg ds10 into your pc to get a realtime sound of the song? I had the Korg ms10 in 1979 and the ds korg now i hope korg are thinking poly for there next project and nintendo better sound. lol

  • Both actually. This song was composed using my speakers, but Within a deep forest was compsed using headphones. (Sennheiser MX-450) :)

As far as upgrading Korg's engine... You can indeed request for more functionality, but the best songs are those that can use the limitations to the max. :)

Look at trackers for example: they used to be 4 channels only. Today they can have like 128 channels. The older 4 channel mods are still awesome (xept for their quality) and can even beat modern mods.:)

  • Thats really nice :-)

  • :) Glad you like it. :)

  • wow, excellent job!

  • Thanks. :) Glad you like it.

  • Awesome.

    Was this all pre-programmed?

  • Yup, all pre-programmed. :) Its even more challenging I think. :)

  • another beauty from LPChip

  • :D Thanks :)

  • Cool sound.

I'm not into ambient stuff, but I like this.

    Love that bass drum!

  • Great to hear! :)

  • Wow, I have been looking at a few Korg DS-10 video's to see if I should get this software. But I think this video is the seller. I have always wanted to mess around and make music without spending mass amounts of money on like programs like Reason.

    Awesome song man.

  • :) Yeah, its a great game for sure. :) Glad you liked this song. Be sure that you check my other songs too, so you can get even more ideas of what's possible. :)

  • Very Impresive!!

  • Thanks :)

  • This is inspirational. I'll have to try making some ambient stuff on the DS some time. I only got it a couple of days ago, and tried making some fast music instead (200bpm). It's nice that most things in the synth are easy to figure out, but the virtual patching really confuses me. Anyway, great job!

  • Thanks :)

The virutal patching isn't that hard. Just look at the white lines and figure out what can be connected to what.

  • Is that like a game i can buy or something?

    cause i would totally.

  • Yes, the KORG DS-10 synthesizer is available in stores.

  • And yes, its just a game for the DS. :)

  • Absolutely beautiful stuff. The DS-10 has me completely amazed - with essentially no prior experience with the synthesizer, I had it out of the box and was writing some amazing stuff within 5 minutes, without reading the guide. Within about an hour, I'd written a full song (given, I do have a background in music).

After buying this, I really don't want an expensive rig anymore. This is portable, versatile, and just what I want. Sentimentality aside, I might even prefer this to my Telecaster.

  • Basically, thats how it went on my end too :) Although I never have actually wanted to have hardware synths because they take up space that I don't have. But I do have quite some softsynths that emulate hardware, which I use, but the Korg DS-10 is very awesome which made me forget a bit about my softsynths. :D

Btw, if you have a song ready to share, I'd like to hear it. :)

  • I plan to upload some sessions, but I don't have a video camera to do it. I might try and borrow one in the near future, but until then, it's all on my cartridge. XD

  • I hope you can borrow one. :) I'm curious. If you really can't, can you atleast get a line-in record to mp3?

  • Great track, and the simulated reverb sounds quite well, congrats!...

DS-10 is good, but i'm expecting the guys from IQ program a version of the MS-20 for DS, including the vocoder!!! Thats could be amazing!!!

  • Thanks :D

May I give you an advice? Don't expect, because that can hurt your feelings. Hope for it instead. :)

  • Damn this is good, been listening to this MP3 for a while now. Love it. You even managed to convince me to order the game. =P

  • :D You're not the first to say this. Damn, I really should contact Nintendo and see if I can work for them :D

  • only thing i didn't care to much for was how loud you mixed the drums. I go by the saying "less is more". If they were a tad bit softer, the subtlety of the drums would cause a much more spooky effect.

  • I see what you mean. I do think that the hihats were too loud, but I love strong drums. I guess its a matter of taste, but in this case it might've been better if they were softer. I do have to say though, that I made most of the song using headphones, not using my speakers, and the drums were a tad softer on the headphones.

  • Well either way, it was a great composition. I can't wait to get my copy of this app. on christmas.

  • Thanks :) I hope you have some days off after christmas, cus you'll gonna wish if you hadn't. :D

  • I'd be pissed if we didn't. We have off from a couple days before christmas til january 2nd.

  • Nice :) I have to work the week after, but luckelly cristmas falls just before the weekend. :D

  • raw

  • Thanks for adding the detail screens at the end, very helpful. Is this a feature you are planning on doing with all your new songs? I hope so. I would however like to see the Synth settings for the strings voice you used for Synth 1.

  • Dunno. But for this song, I decided to do so. :) I will show a bit of info on each song, but probably not everything. A good artist never spoils how he did it so the user has something to return for. :) The strings of synth1 are actually nearly the same as the strings of synth2 of the first melody. The only difference is that I increased the attack setting and both waveforms are saws instead of squares.

  • Talented... Subscribed!

  • Awesome :D

  • Fantastisch zoals ik het wel had verwacht, echt zot dat je deze sounds uit de Korg DS-10 kant halen! Wanneer staat het volgende nummer online? :P

  • Thanks:) (writing it in english so non-dutch visitors can still read my reply. :)

Short translation: Awesome, like I expected. Really crazy how you can get these sounds. When is the next song online?

The answer to the last part: When its done! :D
