i have dragged the ringtone from desktop into 'Tones' tab in iTunes.. synced my phone already but yet i still do not get the custom ringtone i want in the phone!
@princemoiz2012 You may have to change folder settings to be able to this. Go to 'Folder and search options' either through the 'Tools' or 'Organize' tab. Click on the 'View' tab, then untick 'Hide file
you need to make sure file extensions are visible. go to Start>computer> press alt a menu will appear click tools>folder options> view>uncheck hide folder extensions this is for windows 7
This doesn't work! I got as far as dragging the newly created song out of itunes and into a folder but could not change the name. There song file did not end in "m4a", it just had it's normal song name. I changed it anyway and added ".m4r" to the end instead. I then tried to drag it bag to itunes, into the ringtones section and it wouldn't go. Instead it went back to the music library. So now i have 3 copies of the same song in there. I did everything you described but it didn't work?????

hi. im a beginner with the iphone... in the fifth step shows where need to tick the ringtones in general tab. i ticked but i did not find the "ok" button... hmmm... can you help me??? thanks
@just4paws17 I had it wrong at first too. I was trying to add the first AAC file as a ringtone, but it's still the full song just cued to play from the points you pick, and an iPhone won't take a file longer than 30 seconds as a ring tone. Be sure to do the second "convert to AAC"...it took me a little bit to work this out :P I just re-did the whole process while following and pausing the video step by step and all worked out perfectly :)
I am at Stage 5 and when I try to drag the ringtone to my iTunes it just turns into a black circle with a line running through it. I found each stage really easy to follow so I don't know where I went wrong.
Any advise would be really helpful, I cannot go on listening to the awful ringtones on the iphone , thanks xx
I did all the steps and understood everything. When I connect my phone to iTunes I even have the ringtone in my Ringtone file and when I go on my settings it doesn't appear. Don't even have anything called Custom. Same problem some other people have aswell I can see also on the other vids. I have to say I made mine only 20sec long do you think it has a minimum. I might have to play around a little.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thnx
Followed everything & same problem as the other ppl here. In Setting>Sound>Ringtone. I don't have the Custom. When I sync, I do not see it syncing the ringtone files.
connect iphone to computer/open itunes (computer)/go to your iphone thing w.e that is/click on ringtones/check the first thing what it says to sycn/and it will do it look up for ur iphone ringtones
hi...i followed this and when i check on itunes...the ringtone is already on my iphone. the only problem is...when i go to my phone settings>sound>ringtones , the "custom" button or whatever is not there...hope u can help me!!! :[
@Siggennn try n do this ...go to cntrl panel > appearance & personalization>folder options> view > uncheck the box whch says " hide extentions for known file types"
and then try renaming and changing the file of the 30 sec acc version to mr4....it should work ! safe !
@disneyfatum thats because itunes will only let you make ringtones from songs you purchased from itunes. in the video his ringtone was purchased from itunes, i am having the same problem
I converted the ringtone (10sec ringtone) but after the sync I can't see it in the ringtones list on my Iphone3gs... there is no custom in the ringtone list. Can you please tell me what im doing wrong here... thanks
I just wanted to know if you had a solution to this as I am having the same problem... I've got created the ringtone but i don't have the option of "custom ringtone" on the phone.

for those of you at the step where it goes from m4a to m4r, just google "show or hide file name extensions" and that should help!

for anyone having problems that can't sync the newly created ringtone with your iphone, try this..
go to your name.. Example:
[^^] Eric's Iphone
in the tabs within your Iphone section, select 'Ringtones' tab, then sync from there. it worked for me. thanks.
