I think Spy was the best album of Carly's career.....................dunno why it didn't do better at the time. (It became one of her biggest flops). Guess her label didn't do enough to promote it.........................also, guess too many people were immersed in disco and new wave. Any Carly fan should own this one!
@lurch321 As an amatuer rock historian, I can only guess that the music industry saw this as a weak attempt by Carly to take advantage of the spy mania which came about as a result of her hit The Spy Who Loved Me the previous summer. A great album I agree.
After watching some of these videos (Carly prancing and skipping coltishly across the stage in Martha's Vineyard to "Nobody Does it Better," Carly in that whit edress in the lobby scene in "Let the River Run/New Jerusalem," I have to conclude she's the sexiest woman who ever lived and one of the greatest singer/songwriters ever.
After a bout with breast cancer, raising two kids, and outdoing two husbands, Carly is still in top form! I l adored her music in the 70's when I was a teenager ( YOU BELONG TO ME,) and am now passing it on to my eleven year old twins who also like her. A-1, M-1 Carly Simon still grrooves me. From Carol
@bangwezl, I first saw this video at a department store where they were introducing laser disc players. Yes, laser discs degrade over time. CD's will do the same, actually, although not as quickly.
Actually, this was aired August 1st, 1981, number 32 of the 62 songs that were aired on that very first day of: MTV. So this must be a nth generation bootleg of the original MTV footage. Surprising you can here anything. But she's got such fanatstic stage presense!!
Dunno why this album (Spy) was such a flop when it originally came out. I think it's the best one of her career! Guess it wasn't promoted heavily enough...........also, maybe too many people were only into disco and new wave at the time.
I've heard this somewhere where it didn't sound so muted. I love this song but it's hard to get into this way and almost every video of this I've seen has the bad sound.
I love Spy, and I love Carly but the audio is poor. Sorry.
Y'all need to get the album, SPY, from which this came. It wasn't a hit but it contains two of the most gorgeous songs ever - 'We're So Close' and 'Love You by Heart'.
Tony Levin on bass, I believe. Though Carly did a good job faking it I am pretty sure David Spinozza did the guitar solo. But who cares...she's a hottie!
I haven't heard this song for ages. They used this clip to promote LaserDisc when it first came out, to show off what kind of sound quality you could get out of it.
WOW !!With that dress i havnt seen anyone half her age be that sexy and powerful while singing. Looks like the kiddies better take some lesons from these older gals!
since i was about 12-13 yrs old i've been singing carly simon songs. when i'd get an album i'd rehearse all the songs till i got them right! one of my favorite past-times to remember! thanks carly~

@darkknight9761 Good Old Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Nothing like that today, and Midnight Special.
And if I criticize the music of today someone out there will cry like a baby.

The bassist is Tony Levin. A VERY prolific bassist, almost as much as Leland Sklar. Check him out on the Net.

yes, she is lipsynching to a studio recording. this song is featured on her album "spy" . this video was done in a studio and not live.

Of course she's lip syncing. She's not performing live, it's a music video. She records her-self them puts the song she recorded in its place.
