  • Nicely done.Maybe a little It's Alive and Bride Wore Black for v.2?

  • TORN CURTAIN caused the breakup with Hitch; but much as I admire Herrmann (I think I'm second to none here) I think his score for that film was just too heavy. Addison's score, beginning with that superb electric guitar motif (unfortunately never repeated because the superb cue for Gromek's muder was omitted) has been unfairly neglected. The Prelude and (deleted) G murder cue are fantastic; listen to the development of that motif in the murder cue. Pity it was omitted but it's on the ST.

  • Herrmann's mentors were the Russians and the Brits. One can hear traces of several Brit composers in B's music, and, of course, the Russians; but don't leave out Puccini; one definitely hears him in those verismo chords in Wuthering Heights and those gorgeous lyrical sections. As for Hitch w/o Benny, c'mon. Hitch would have done it anyway. Benny was set for SPELLBOUND and listen to the goregous Rozsa score. Also don't undermine the great Waxman and Tiomkin scores for Hitch's films.

  • BH is my all time favorite film composer. However, one needs to salute his 'mentors' (Prokovief and Sibelius in general).

  • Whats the title for the Fahrenheit 451 score u have listed here? it's great!

  • @JuanitoRocks----The Fahrenheit 451 slection is "Fire Engine". I am a huge Herrmann fan. Check out my Herrmann video uploads including Fahrenheit 451.

  • bravoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • You can rip the audio-mp3 of this clip at grabyourmp3 doht cohm.

  • Hitch and Benny Herrmann were introduced on the hope they would "get along" in order to collaborate. None can compare with the match, masterpieces, Bravo,

No other combo has compared to date. Those were the days folks.

  • Love the vintage movie posters. Nice touch

  • Excellent collection of music by an incredible composer

  • Moonscape, Space Drift, Starlight, The Lonely, and Walking Distance from his Twilight Zone work are also very under-noted y'all.

  • Blue Falcon

The world has been blessed with a number of great film composers. Hermann and

Hermann and Rozsa are my favorites but there are several others of nearly equal stature IMHO. These include Elmer Bernstein, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner, Ennio Morricone, and Nino Rota.

Much of their output is available on Youtube.

  • Hermann and Miklos Rozsa were the two greatest film composers ever IMHO.

    Thanks for posting!

  • @fillmorehagan I knew of Rozsa and hadn't found Hermann until tonight......WOW!!!!

  • Herrmann + Hitchcock = Heaven

    Herrmann + Nothing = Nirvana

  • Boy you got that right. Indeed the greatest of them all and very underappreciated I think... only 1 Oscar to his credit for Obsession or did he get one for Taxi Driver too? The Ghost & Mrs. Muir ---- his greatest ---- wasn't even nominated.

  • @irarube He got one for "The Devil and Daniel Webster" (1941). The irony is that his much greater score for "Citizen Kane" that same year wasn't even nominated (if I remember correctly, in any case it didn't win).

  • Wow!!! this is totally awesome!!!! My mom loves Bernard Herman!!! I'm going to share this with her!!!

  • He was indeed the greatest film music composer of all time

  • Herrman + Hitchcock = Masterpiece

  • Nettoyeur71, you included Battle of Neretva, bravo!

  • Great stuff. Never gets old. Wish they'd release The Night Digger on DVD.

  • Mine too serjanus! And I've just turned 44.... Herrmann is The Maestro!

  • thank you for the tribute,of these i feel that

obsession is the most outstanding of

    Bernard Herrmanns.

  • His score for Obsession is genius and has been almost constantly in my brain for 30 years!

  • Thank you for posting, movies wouldn't be movies without the amazing music

  • Looking at totality of his work from"Citizen Kane" to "Taxi Driver" Herrmann is indeed King.

  • Herrmann is king and Morricone is tzar.

  • Some of these *are* actually quite well-known, such as "Cape Fear" (due to Scorsese's remake, which utilised the same music) and "Twisted Nerve" (due to Tarantino, of course).

  • Thank u!!!

    5* 4 u and Mr Herrmann. =)
