@passiondiscgolf You are absolutely incorrect - Drew is deaf due to Connexin 26 and was an excellent candidate for CI's since he was born deaf and implanted at 8 months old. You are grossly uninformed. Please educate yourself about cochlear implants before speaking on their pros or cons.
90% of CI users (born deaf) has no benefits from it. CI is designed for child/adults who have lost most of their hearing later in life often can benefit from it. CI is NOT the solution.
@passiondiscgolf The total cost to us for Drew's surgery after insurance was $1,170.15. The yearly cookout we have with the surgeon and hospital staff seems to indicate they do care, though it is hard to judge since all the kids with CI's are having too much fun running around talking with each other and playing games to really interrogate the medical personnel on the matter.
@lera417 why? i am fascinated with this viewpoint and as you seem so adamant, please explain to someone who has never been without his hearing. and please try to do sanely instead of nooooo's and STOP's. I'm asking sincerely...

@TurnOnMyEars Sign language is different than English, it's a total different language. What the 46 year old deaf person meant was that they are deaf and fine an still living. You have to think about the meaning and context instead of the one word
This made me cry......you have a beautiful baby boy......i am really happy for your son....Happy New Year from India.....may you and your son share wonderful moments ahead !
For those who are opposed to CI: can you please explain to me how this is any different than someone receiving, say, lasik eye surgery or corneal eye implants to remedy poor vision? Although these procedures might not be available to everyone yet, they're all simply tools to remedy a malfunctioning sensory apparatus. No one's saying anyone's different or disabled or less beautiful here...so I really don't understand.

Why can't Mommy accept him as a beautiful Deaf son. Being Deaf is not life threatening. CI - wastes money and unhealthy. American Sign Language is free and healthy. I guarantee he will take it out as he grows older. I am 46 years old Deaf and I am still existed. I have a job, family and many more!
@CanineDS I will be extremely surprised if he wishes to stop wearing his CI's when he is older, but if he does, that will be his right. I can tell you are still existed - you posted on YouTube, didn't you?
@CanineDS Lots of hearing parents try to make their children "as hearing as they can" because they don't know at all what being deaf means. I think it's just a question of fear and of trying to make their own life and their children's life easier, because, unfortunately, just a few hearing people sign. I think the two things should coexist, but in Italy (where I live) they don't.
@passiondiscgolf I know, and now deaf Italian people are fighting to give LIS the right value and to make it become an official language. I love LIS and I totally support bilingual education (I study psychology and I know the benefits of such an education!). I really hope thing will change soon in Italy (even if I'm not very faithfull they will). I really feel like my Country is "obsolete" from this point of view! bye ;-)
@CanineDS If you are happy to deaf that is your right. However sound is a beautiful thing music even the sound of rain why would any parent NOT want to give their child the gift of sound if they could.

I recommend you delete this troll's abusive diatribes. He has been roaming across many similar videos attacking people, hearing and deaf alike, for not subscribing to his totalitarian views.
It's your video. If YouTube doesn't practice such quality control, it doesn't mean you can't.
@whynotflip I actually messaged TurnOnMyEars last evening about that. I sent her numerous examples of the disgusting things you hearing people on here have said about Deaf people.
@kalijasin you have shown your true colors. your "us against hearing people" mentality is what is so upsetting. as i have said, my husband is deaf, and i love him dearly. I have never said cruel things or felt in my heart any ill will towards the deaf. My problem with you is not your deafness, it is your arrogance. Godspeed. I pray your anger towards the hearing is healed. Why are you so bitter towards hearing people? Aren't the hearing helpful to you?
@ogith Clearly you do not understand what a troll is then. A troll is someone who starts arguments. I have not started any arguments .. i've only responded to your arguments and arguments others have made.
I'm not going to argue if you have these or not, or argue the true merit of these, because this is the internet and you can claim just about anything.
Once again, you have read a different meaning into what I posted than was there, saying "full life" where what I wrote was "experience _more_ of the world". Whatever it is you have or have not achieved, the ability to hear and all this entails is still beyond you, a part of the world's experiences that you just don't have.
@ogith When you give a baby that's implanted something additional over a Deaf person not implanted and then call that a full life for that baby and not those not implanted you do create an inequality. And inequality does not make those not implanted equal or better only lesser.
How the hell did I ever earn 3 college degrees, two martial arts black belts, learn 4 languages, and qualify for the Jr. Olympics if a CI is needed for me to have a full life equal with that of hearing people????
Wanting your child to grow up with an ability capricious chance and random biological troubles has denied it is one of the more logical reasons to do anything in this world
The blind/paralyzed/whatever man may not "need" to see/walk/whatever, as society will help him and work around his troubles, but why criticize his desire to allow him or his children to see/walk/whatever if the chance to grant them the ability to do such, to experience more of the world, was within his power?
That is YOU have taken from what I have said, and what I have noticed many deaf people do from comments even less possible to misread than my own.
How have I labeled them lesser people? By stating the fact that they are limited? That there are some things they can't do? By your logic, then everyone who isn't a genius/athlete/celebrity is a lesser person, since they lack the intellect/strength/charisma to do what they do, and should feel oh-so-bad because of it.
"Wanting your child to grow up with an ability capricious chance and random biological troubles has denied it is one of the more logical reasons to do anything in this world
The blind/paralyzed/whatever man may not "need" to see/walk/whatever, as society will help him and work around his troubles, but why criticize his desire to allow him or his children to see/walk/whatever"
Uses terms and analogies that make us not equal with the rest of humanity.
@kalijasin it's impossible to debate a hateful person with an agenda to ruin the joy of CI recipients. I haven't lied or used erroneous reasoning. You might think you're being clever, but you're making a fool of yourself. I think you know it. I see you've removed quite a few of your own comments today. Yeah, you shouldn't say hateful things. Have a nice life.
@whynotflip Arguments that are fallacious, like your argumentum ad hominems, are derived from reasoning that is erroneous. Therefore, your reasoning was erroneous as your arguments were fallacious.
@whynotflip You most certainly did lie. You specifically said I did not mention the child, but in fact I did. I even quoted where I did to show you that i did.
@kalijasin in the begining of our little banter you referred to the child, yes. But at some point you used a blanket statement using the pronoun "they". This is the statement I was referring to. I see you deleted it though. You've twisted this conversation into some other entity. I have requested the owner of this video to block you and your incessant trolling.
@whynotflip If you truly were referring back to the plural "they" in your claim that I did not mention the child then you would not of used the singular "child" when you claimed I did not mention this "child".
@whynotflip I also find your statement to be BS for the fact that you are using "they" in the context of people or persons when in fact I did not use it in that context. I made that evident in my statement when I said, "cochlear implants. They do not make the Deaf hearing. "
@whynotflip Why the need to go specifically after me and only me if you truly do not hate deaf people who not implanted? I ask that because there are at least 3 different hearing people here who have used the same phrases and wording that I did And I do not see you going after them for that.
@kalijasin you responded to a comment i made 3 years ago, attacked me by calling me ignorant, and the conversation continued on from there. I sang Silent Night at a Christmas party for deaf children while someone signed. I teach special needs drum classes. I married a deaf man. Again, WHY would you suggest I hate deaf people who are not CI implanted. When you make comments like that, what kind of response do you think you'll have? I'm not "going after" you or anyone. I am defending myself
@whynotflip Why the need to go specifically after me and only me if you truly do not hate deaf people who are not implanted? I ask that because there are at least 3 different hearing people here who have used the same phrases and/or wording as I did And I do not see you going after them for that.
@kalijasin i believe we've already established that. tell me...have you ever wondered what it would be like to hear? i suspect you have. i think you'd like to hear and you're afraid to, and that is why you're trolling videos of CI success stories. you should never trample on the joy of anyone who has had a CI. and never call anyone ignorant when you yourself know nothing of the procedure. there is no need to be so cruel and so rude.
To the person that said "they're trying to eradicate deaf people", that's exactly the point. Being angry about that is like my dad who has cancer complaining that cancer treatment is "trying to eradicate cancerous Americans". I guess misery loves company.
@DazzlingDisguise 131+ years of being made slaves, put in asylums, forced into concentration camps, having our language outlawed, etc.. and you say its Deaf people who need to show respect???
@DazzlingDisguise 131+ years of being made slaves, put in asylums, forced into concentration camps, having our language outlawed, etc.. and you say its Deaf people who need to show respect???
@DazzlingDisguise 131+ years of being made slaves, put in asylums, forced into concentration camps, having our language outlawed, etc.. and you say its Deaf people who need to show respect???
@kalijasin Yup, you got me. I'm so hateful, with all of my working toward equal rights for minorities. What was I thinking? I should stop being such a terrible person. Thank you for showing me the err of my ways, Kalijasin.
@DazzlingDisguise If that is all true then that's pretty dam sad because you of all people should know better than to say bad stuff to people who choose to be different, people like me.
@kalijasin I know, right? The people who do are absolutely terrible. Just as bad as the people who hate others for being able to hear. Hate is terrible in general, so I suggest you become more open minded and hate less. Understanding and love are the most important things.
@kalijasin Do you realize that everything you are saying right now is just proving more and more how much of an ignoramus you are? And as for your deluded bible quote, your desensitized little mind cannot begin to fathom the immensity of the shit i do not give about your stupid bible. It does not help prove your point at all. If you even ever had a point at all. Try taking a civics class why don't you?
@XxozzyshizlllxX "Do you realize that everything you are saying right now is just proving more and more how much of an ignoramus you are? And as for your deluded bible quote, your desensitized little mind cannot begin to fathom the immensity of the shit i do not give about your stupid bible. It does not help prove your point at all. If you even ever had a point at all. Try taking a civics class why don't you?" <-- This is an argumentum ad hominem
@kalijasin I don't understand why you would want people to not be able to hear. I think that signing is fantastic, too, but I think it would be kind of sad to not be able to one of the senses. Especially when it comes to music and not being able to hear it. It's not that the people are trying to make it so that the deaf are just like everyone else, it's that they are trying to make life better for them. It would be like not being able to taste delicious food or feel a warm breeze.
@kalijasin It's not like people who are deaf are forced to get them. Obviously some people want to be able to hear. You're just trying to get a reaction out of people here. You can't even form a valid argument.
@kalijasin Obviously, no, but the mom was looking out for the child and being a GOOD parent, more than what you would ever be, and giving him a life with more opportunities.
@ScolioGirl44 Deaf or hearing no one should have something implanted on them as a baby unless its to keep them alive or treat some disease that could kill them.
Doctors do not want the parents to have that opportunity. Doctors seek for more money by get by government and do not care about child's well being and fix them to be a mock -hearing lifestyle that will damage a child's emotional and mentally.
I am glad to share my own view but they are angry with me..I feel sorry the boy on a video . I always believe that parents should get the right path is getting referral to the deaf and hard of hearing community to help grief , shock, vulnerable parents to learn about the other side of the world that children are . Parents will grow with the bi lingual and bi cultural in their lifetime.
@gwenxion They obviously do not care about Deaf people. I think we can establish that to be a fact by this video and the hateful comments people like DazzlingDisguise have made towards me.
It's not because you have an irrational fear of technology that you have the right to criticize people who only want to improve their child's life quality.
We are a technological species and rebelling against natures torment is what we do every day. We drive cars, build houses, make a phonecall and enable deaf people to make phonecalls too.
We will make the blind see, the cripple walk and cure Alzheimer. Deal with it, or go back to the jungle.
I can't believe there are people sp upset becuase a family made life for their deaf kid easier. Life is going to be so such easier for him. I don't understand why people get so upset over stuff like this. Whatever people always have something to bitch about.
@Kwasygirl It is not our lack of hearing that makes life hard for us its the disgusting and cruel things people like DazzlingDisguise, XxozzyshizlllxX, ogith, ScotchMonkey08, and whynotflip say about us that does.
@kalijasin what disgusting, cruel thing have I said about you? Let's recap. You called me "ignorant" and a "liar". You don't even know me. And WHY would I say disgusting, rude things to a person because of their deafness when I am married to a deaf man? You don't like people who choose to get CI's and troll on peoples videos who DO choose CI's. THAT is cruel and disgusting.
Funny how the mom doesnt think how the first sounds her child should hear are the words 'I love you're or some variation of the phrase.....hah my opinion.
i would never do this to my child if he or she were deaf. putting your child through such unnecessary pain. PEOPLE BEING DEAF DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAKER OR DISABLED. THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN DO BESIDES HEAR. HELL I BET THEY CAN DO THINGS BETTER THEN HEARING PEOPLE CAN.
@hellokittyluver4ever "HELL I BET THEY CAN DO THINGS BETTER THEN HEARING PEOPLE CAN."
i'm willing to bet you that they can't listen to music better than hearing people.. it is, by definition, a disability. the disability to hear... the opposite of the ABILITY to hear. as for being weaker that depends how you define weaker. in survival terms they ARE weaker. they are unable to hear danger. i'm not saying that makes them any less of a person though.

@whynotflip
I recommend you delete this troll's abusive diatribes. He has been roaming across many similar videos attacking people, hearing and deaf alike, for not subscribing to his totalitarian views.
It's your video. If YouTube doesn't practice such quality control, it doesn't mean you can't.

@kalijasin I'm in high school...

@ogith Also, if hearing people did not consider us lesser than there would of been no need to implant Drew or any other baby.

You guys shut up. He's so adorable. Good to "hear" it works :)

@Tubetrigga how puntabulous!!!!!

@whynotflip I actually messaged TurnOnMyEars last evening about that. I sent her numerous examples of the disgusting things you hearing people on here have said about Deaf people.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin you have shown your true colors. your "us against hearing people" mentality is what is so upsetting. as i have said, my husband is deaf, and i love him dearly. I have never said cruel things or felt in my heart any ill will towards the deaf. My problem with you is not your deafness, it is your arrogance. Godspeed. I pray your anger towards the hearing is healed. Why are you so bitter towards hearing people? Aren't the hearing helpful to you?

I love his omg what IS that face at the end :P So cute.

@ogith Clearly you do not understand what a troll is then. A troll is someone who starts arguments. I have not started any arguments .. i've only responded to your arguments and arguments others have made.
kalijasin 5 months ago
You call us lesser humans and then claim we are the hateful ?? Absolutely despicable!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin
Now you're just trolling, and badly.
0/10.
ogith 5 months ago
@kalijasin
I'm not going to argue if you have these or not, or argue the true merit of these, because this is the internet and you can claim just about anything.
Once again, you have read a different meaning into what I posted than was there, saying "full life" where what I wrote was "experience _more_ of the world". Whatever it is you have or have not achieved, the ability to hear and all this entails is still beyond you, a part of the world's experiences that you just don't have.
ogith 5 months ago
@ogith When you give a baby that's implanted something additional over a Deaf person not implanted and then call that a full life for that baby and not those not implanted you do create an inequality. And inequality does not make those not implanted equal or better only lesser.

How the hell did I ever earn 3 college degrees, two martial arts black belts, learn 4 languages, and qualify for the Jr. Olympics if a CI is needed for me to have a full life equal with that of hearing people????
kalijasin 5 months ago
@ogith that does not seem like a good logical reason for going forth with a very costly and unneeded surgery.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin
Wanting your child to grow up with an ability capricious chance and random biological troubles has denied it is one of the more logical reasons to do anything in this world
The blind/paralyzed/whatever man may not "need" to see/walk/whatever, as society will help him and work around his troubles, but why criticize his desire to allow him or his children to see/walk/whatever if the chance to grant them the ability to do such, to experience more of the world, was within his power?
ogith 5 months ago
@ogith what I find insulting is that you have labeled deaf people not implanted as lesser people.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin
Limited =/= Bad

Uses terms and analogies that make us not equal with the rest of humanity.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@ogith It does when you use it to insult someone or make someone lesser than someone else.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@whynotflip can you actually debate me without lying and/or using erroneous reasoning?? LOL
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin it's impossible to debate a hateful person with an agenda to ruin the joy of CI recipients. I haven't lied or used erroneous reasoning. You might think you're being clever, but you're making a fool of yourself. I think you know it. I see you've removed quite a few of your own comments today. Yeah, you shouldn't say hateful things. Have a nice life.
whynotflip 5 months ago
@whynotflip I take that to mean, NO.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@whynotflip Arguments that are fallacious, like your argumentum ad hominems, are derived from reasoning that is erroneous. Therefore, your reasoning was erroneous as your arguments were fallacious.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@whynotflip You most certainly did lie. You specifically said I did not mention the child, but in fact I did. I even quoted where I did to show you that i did.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin in the begining of our little banter you referred to the child, yes. But at some point you used a blanket statement using the pronoun "they". This is the statement I was referring to. I see you deleted it though. You've twisted this conversation into some other entity. I have requested the owner of this video to block you and your incessant trolling.
whynotflip 5 months ago
@whynotflip If you truly were referring back to the plural "they" in your claim that I did not mention the child then you would not of used the singular "child" when you claimed I did not mention this "child".
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin this statement is irrational and exasperating. it's a dead dog and i am done with it.
whynotflip 5 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@whynotflip I also find your statement to be BS for the fact that you are using "they" in the context of people or persons when in fact I did not use it in that context. I made that evident in my statement when I said, "cochlear implants. They do not make the Deaf hearing. "
kalijasin 5 months ago
@whynotflip Why the need to go specifically after me and only me if you truly do not hate deaf people who not implanted? I ask that because there are at least 3 different hearing people here who have used the same phrases and wording that I did And I do not see you going after them for that.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin you responded to a comment i made 3 years ago, attacked me by calling me ignorant, and the conversation continued on from there. I sang Silent Night at a Christmas party for deaf children while someone signed. I teach special needs drum classes. I married a deaf man. Again, WHY would you suggest I hate deaf people who are not CI implanted. When you make comments like that, what kind of response do you think you'll have? I'm not "going after" you or anyone. I am defending myself
whynotflip 5 months ago 2
@whynotflip ignorance is without knowledge of something. Its not an insult; Its not the same as saying you are stupid, dumb, retarded, etc.

@whynotflip Is that how you choose to get your point across, by lying??
kalijasin 5 months ago
@whynotflip CI is not a cure for deafness. Never has been.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin i believe we've already established that. tell me...have you ever wondered what it would be like to hear? i suspect you have. i think you'd like to hear and you're afraid to, and that is why you're trolling videos of CI success stories. you should never trample on the joy of anyone who has had a CI. and never call anyone ignorant when you yourself know nothing of the procedure. there is no need to be so cruel and so rude.
whynotflip 5 months ago
To the person that said "they're trying to eradicate deaf people", that's exactly the point. Being angry about that is like my dad who has cancer complaining that cancer treatment is "trying to eradicate cancerous Americans". I guess misery loves company.

Its so sad that hearing people do not accept the Deaf and are always trying to change us to make us more like them.
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin I don't understand why you would want people to not be able to hear. I think that signing is fantastic, too, but I think it would be kind of sad to not be able to one of the senses. Especially when it comes to music and not being able to hear it. It's not that the people are trying to make it so that the deaf are just like everyone else, it's that they are trying to make life better for them. It would be like not being able to taste delicious food or feel a warm breeze.
DazzlingDisguise 5 months ago
@DazzlingDisguise why do you not want perfectly healthy and happy deaf people to be deaf?
kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin It's not like people who are deaf are forced to get them. Obviously some people want to be able to hear. You're just trying to get a reaction out of people here. You can't even form a valid argument.

Parents will grow with the bi lingual and bi cultural in their lifetime.

@gwenxion They obviously do not care about Deaf people. I think we can establish that to be a fact by this video and the hateful comments people like DazzlingDisguise have made towards me.
kalijasin 5 months ago
Those militant neo luddists are making me sick.
Deal with it, or go back to the jungle.

kalijasin 5 months ago
@kalijasin what disgusting, cruel thing have I said about you? Let's recap. You called me "ignorant" and a "liar". You don't even know me. And WHY would I say disgusting, rude things to a person because of their deafness when I am married to a deaf man? You don't like people who choose to get CI's and troll on peoples videos who DO choose CI's. THAT is cruel and disgusting.

i would never do this to my child if he or she were deaf. putting your child through such unnecessary pain. PEOPLE BEING DEAF DOES NOT MAKE YOU WEAKER OR DISABLED. THEY CAN DO ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN DO BESIDES HEAR. HELL I BET THEY CAN DO THINGS BETTER THEN HEARING PEOPLE CAN.
hellokittyluver4ever 6 months ago
@hellokittyluver4ever "HELL I BET THEY CAN DO THINGS BETTER THEN HEARING PEOPLE CAN."
i'm willing to bet you that they can't listen to music better than hearing people.. it is, by definition, a disability. the disability to hear... the opposite of the ABILITY to hear. as for being weaker that depends how you define weaker. in survival terms they ARE weaker. they are unable to hear danger. i'm not saying that makes them any less of a person though.
