Yes, the 8th floor was closed for about a week. The 7th floor was closed for a couple of days. The 6th floor was opened by the afternoon of the day after. Most of the other floors were unaffected by the quake in any major way.
@urgothmom Hi, I just want you to know that I am a math teacher and I LOVE this video for real-life context! I use it to teach about slope and vertical intercepts and their meanings. Please keep this video posted! thanks for sharing -
I stand by my brief explanation of discarding materials by librarians. If you care to take a Collection Development class, you will learn a lot more about it. SJSU has an excellent library school and many students are distance learners online. Cheers!
I am a librarian not a physicist but I guess because they fell off at the same time.
The Cal Poly Discard issue is really a non-issue and has nothing to do with the earthquake. Librarians discard all the time, it isn't the end of the world to get rid of bound journals that are now available online.
For all the work done to make that building safe for earthquakes, you would think they would have prepared the books as well. I guess thats more overtime for you folks, have fun!
its funny where i live in australia we dont get that sort of thing at all although there was like a richter 6 or something one in newcastle years ago.
i have felt 2 earth tremors in my life and that is a strange experience even for that.

I think after living through the 1989 quake..this one didn't feel all that bad. Good time to check your emergency supplies though.

Wow, this looks like a lot of fun to shelve Aunt Sandy. I'm so glad my library doesn't get earthquakes. Not too many natural disasters here in NC. :)
