@marianamere Linda was the first female to ever do a rock concert tour, ELEVEN GRAMMYS, Most successful female rock singer to sold out concerts across country, rock and Mexican Folk 6 platinum albums,.. The greatest vocal interpreter ever.and I meet young people who have never heard of her???
As a guitarist, I usually enjoy the guitar solo - unless Linda Ronstadt is the vocalist - then I'm just waiting for the guitar to stop so we can hear Linda again!
I remember this song as a little kid. My older sister would sing it to me when it was on the radio. I'm sure it played no small part to my psychosis as an adult.
And the guitarist was Andrew Gold, who unfortunately just died last June. He played great guitar, sang, and was a good songwriter. He did "Lonely Boy" and "Thank You for Being a Friend". RIP.
@hiramchik The drummer, Richie Hayward, died this year as well. This is why early induction into R&R Hall of Fame for obvious candidates (even if they're not to your particular taste!) is so important.
This is the song that made a Linda fan out of me back in the early 70's. I went out and bought heart like a wheel and on to buy 12 more of her albums. She dominated my album collection with 13 albums. Every Sunday was Linda day. Lost the whole collection in moving a few years back. I hope who ever got them knows what they have cause I still had albums I had bought back in the 60's. There will never be a better female vocalist then LINDA RONSTADT....!
Linda rocks this song, i love the range and power in her voice. But the bongo / drum / guitar jam starting from 1:20 - 2:02 is what REALLY makes the song super awesomely sweet and groovy!!!!
@tdelamont that would be jeff "skunk" baxter, who played with doobie brothers and steely dan and if you think he's the balls on congas, you should hear him on guitar...! check out "reelin' in the years."
@tdelamont Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, journeyman and founding member of both Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers. That's Andrew Gold on guitar and Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward. No female singer had more talent behind them than Ronstadt.
@MrVeesworld They say that Skunk got his name because he refused to use tolet paper- or bath regularly. He had to sit downwind when it was hot weather because he really really stunk like a skunk and would make sweet little Linda "Hurel her cookies" if she got a "BO" whif!
I miss the midnight special.....back when music and singing was live and you never quite knew what you were going to get. Some went on the show and knocked it out of the park. Some....well, you could tell they appeared after a show and post show party.
At 1:52, Dang Linda's ass looks good in those jeans!
