@bigtown I posted this video in response to the deluge of Detroit as ghetto, dead, etc. that are easy to make. There is a square mile of land on the near east side and another on the near west side in old "walk to work" blue collar neighborhoods. Those houses were built in the 1920s to last for 60 years. The areas are slated for redevelopment and many speculators like Matty Maroun (owner of the Ambassador Bridge) have been buying up parcels for a number of years.

Every city in this nation has a version of Brush Park. In Philadelphia it's Strawberry Mansion and other formerly desireable 'Hoods that border Fairmount Park. Northeast Philly is also now Nigged Out. East Falls and West Oak Lane are Nigged Out. Germantown has been lost to da Chimpz for many years; as has North and West Philly. Roxborough is overrun with monkeys.

Ghetto Blacks are a toxic social virus that ruin everything they touch.

I couldn't imagine how much it would cost to restore these houses. I'm glad to see that Detroit is making some progress in restorating these beautiful homes.

@charlestonchewy I've known some folks that have taken some of these homes and restore. Yes, they sink a decent amount of money into them. However, it is mostly sweat and toil. They and a few friends work together and do a gut rehab. They strip the walls down to the bare studs, rewire, and replumb the entire house. Fortunately, if the slate roofs are intact, they can be repaired and the very solid hardwood floor can we refinished. Great opportunities for anyone with some construction skills.

Those houses are so beautiful and It's such a shame that they went to ruin like that. It brings a tear to your eye really. Those houses have such a story to tell, If only those walls could really talk huh.

In Europe these old houses would be considered fairly new. Seeing them like this is like walking through the DIA and seeing a Rembrandt painting that someone has slashed with a knife.

Thank you both for the kudos. If only more people understood the complexity of the city instead of showing only "sensational footage" of a burned out area of homes that were originally constructed with an expected useful life of only 60 yearsin 1950 or earlier. Those videos tend to give viewers the impression that the entire city looks like that. Remeber the story of the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf? Which is the most durable: one built of sticks, wood boards, or brick?

It's nice to hear that 40% of 90 structures are being saved. But will it last? There has already been one failed attempt to save Brush Park, and Detroit's economy is still in ruins. Time will tell.

Detroit has always been a mosaic of high quality and lower quality architecture. Some was built to last for three or four hundred years. Others have exceeded their useful life. It largely has to do with the location of the previous 25 villages and towns that were absorbed into Detroit during the first two decades of the twentieth century and the underlying land quality of the area. Location location, location.
