I've taken quite a break from listening to their stuff over the years, but I just found this tonight for the 1st time. I'm on my 2nd listening & I already think it's one of their best pieces. And while they were no fans of organized Christianity they certainly were not anti-Christian as a rule, as evidenced by their close association with David Tibet, himself a devout Christian. Coil took things from many diverse spiritual paths without fully aligning themselves to any one or another.

Let's see here...Christianity has factored heavily in Tibet's music since Thunder Perfect Mind at least, from images he's posted on the internet his home seems to be filled with Christ imagery, studies Coptic, and speaks pretty frequently of the eventual return of Christ. I'd say that makes him devout. Sure he's not the TBN watching, Republican party backing type of Christian we typically think of, but that doesn't mean that his faith is any less than theirs (in fact it's probably more so).

I know that he has had some involvement in Thelema in the past, I know that he still retains some interest in it, and I also know that he's described himself now as practically antithetical to Crowley, despite still maintaining an appreciation of him. He's very much devout, his is a kind of Gnostic Christianity, which has no problem with being informed by other religions.
