Flash is on the way out. HTML5 will likely replace it. In case you haven't noticed, Apple has always been a company to take the long run, the big picture. Though it would still be nice to have flash until we reach that transition period.

A phone that runs Android is not the Android Phone - it is hardware. Android can have any number of hardware configurations - from good touchscreen to bad, fast processor or slow processor.
Android is only as good as its hardware, and the new phones are responsive, fast, with proper animations and good sensitivity.

Thank god iMobileCinema has been invented. It has been very useful to me even though it's a bit laggy. Apple should at least give a choice to use or not to use flash on iPhone.
The reason flash or java isnt supported is becouse it will compete with apps. Now, flash can compile to iPhone, meaning it will be part of the app store.

The Ipod Touch not supporting flash is the one issue that has keep me from getting one. Why would they support it when Apple is trying to sale you the same stuff you can watch free elsewhere on the internet? Everything else about the Touch looks great, but that just breaks the deal for me since the surfing the net is the main reason I would get one.
The problem is if you give people Flash, they'll watch all of their favourite TV shows; some of which are not available legally through television network websites, and are present on some blog that promotes copyright infringement.

ONE of those things already kills the ipad. that's the starting price for the ipad, too. for a higher ipad, you could buy a WAY better piece of technology.

inet without flash and silverlight is a frustrating joke, and html/javascript have 0 plans to replace them, they even scrapped video and audio codecs from the proposed standards

adobe is bringing mobile flash player to most smartphones in the near future (already on the new android nexus one) but apple is getting flash cause they aren't allowing adobe to develop it for iphone because they don't want adobe to know their "trade secrets"

@kaostical well the end user DOES care about everything, because one of the good things about iphones is the incredibly efficient OS. Apples mobile devices are a way to get rid of poor technology (like flash) and open the gates to new technology (like html5). steve says its the #1 reason macs crash AND adobe itself avoids showing apple flash to perform well on a mobile device. So, steve explains how people can live happily without flash and still being able to play/view a shitload of games/vids.
@h4x0y The issue is that HTML5 is in no ways complete. It currently uses more cpu than flash for comparitive tasks hence using more batteries. Let the user decide if they want to use flash. I currently own a Nokia N900 that has flash and have no issues with flash. The only positive is as you stated is that it will speed up html 5 development. In the meantime iphone users are missing out on the full internet.
@fnorum well things are simple: nobody is forced to buy an iphone, theres plenty of various phones on the market and if you think flash is the big fat downside about iphones, go for one those hundreds of alternatives. In my case, I understand Jobs reasons for excluding flash and I prefer a phone without flash. and about html5: it may require alot of power but since it will be the standard sooner or later, there wont be a single phone excluding it.

@EricGrain not true adobe sort of begged apple to include flash. these two companies have always been "friends" because mac users loved apps like CS3, Photoshop (lightroom) and other apps. but flash is just the one thing apple did NOT like, so they excluded it. adobe was unable to show apple a mabile device performing well with flash. furthermore, flash causes a lower battery life aswell as some other dissapointing things. read Jobs article about flash, it explains the reason for excluding flash

So if you dont like their way of thinking/if ou cant live without flash, go for one of those other great smart phones out there. Imo, i understand all 6 arguments against flash and i dont feel like i'm missing anything, so the iphone is a great option for me. (and i'm glad that there are some significant differences between the various phones on the market)

did a little digging, and apparently iphones are automatically detected and redirected to the mobile version of youtube, where there is an MP4 copy of every video on youtube...pretty scary

The reason flash or java isnt supported is becouse it will compete with apps. Now, flash can compile to iPhone, meaning it will be part of the app store.
Think about how much money apple would lose if ppl could just go on addicting games . com and play games instead of buying them on the appstore

@fragm3nted please know your source before you talk. the only reason apple decline flash is becuz of steve job. it's unstable on apple device, not on windows. if flash is on iphone, it doesn't affect apple, it affect apps developers who are not working for apple, apple would still make money. in fact having flash on iphone would convince many ppl using something else other than iphone to get an iphone.

Apple stopped flash becouse flash on websites will compete with apps and its a little slow. Thats okay, becouse flash is getting better. In the end, Google will prevail becouse they reach more developers. Apple is trying to commercialize something that was previously public, and for now it is working so they are trying to protect that.

The Ipod Touch not supporting flash is the one issue that has keep me from getting one. Why would they support it when Apple is trying to sale you the same stuff you can watch free elsewhere on the internet? Everything else about the Touch looks great, but that just breaks the deal for me since the surfing the net is the main reason I would get one.

well you can buy two dell mini 10v's with a 1.6ghz intel atom, 1gig ram, 160gig hdd, built-in webcam, 10" screen, and FULLY FEATURED win xp or 7 for that price. mobile youtube is crap, a huge step down from what the iphone's screen can show and what 3g inet can stream
inet without flash and silverlight is a frustrating joke, and html/javascript have 0 plans to replace them, they even scrapped video and audio codecs from the proposed standards

@kaostical well the end user DOES care about everything, because one of the good things about iphones is the incredibly efficient OS. Apples mobile devices are a way to get rid of poor technology (like flash) and open the gates to new technology (like html5). steve says its the #1 reason macs crash AND adobe itself avoids showing apple flash to perform well on a mobile device. So, steve explains how people can live happily without flash and still being able to play/view a shitload of games/vids.

@h4x0y The issue is that HTML5 is in no ways complete. It currently uses more cpu than flash for comparitive tasks hence using more batteries. Let the user decide if they want to use flash. I currently own a Nokia N900 that has flash and have no issues with flash. The only positive is as you stated is that it will speed up html 5 development. In the meantime iphone users are missing out on the full internet.

@fnorum well things are simple: nobody is forced to buy an iphone, theres plenty of various phones on the market and if you think flash is the big fat downside about iphones, go for one those hundreds of alternatives. In my case, I understand Jobs reasons for excluding flash and I prefer a phone without flash. and about html5: it may require alot of power but since it will be the standard sooner or later, there wont be a single phone excluding it.

@EricGrain not true adobe sort of begged apple to include flash. these two companies have always been "friends" because mac users loved apps like CS3, Photoshop (lightroom) and other apps. but flash is just the one thing apple did NOT like, so they excluded it. adobe was unable to show apple a mabile device performing well with flash. furthermore, flash causes a lower battery life aswell as some other dissapointing things. read Jobs article about flash, it explains the reason for excluding flash

Imo, i understand all 6 arguments against flash and i dont feel like i'm missing anything, so the iphone is a great option for me. (and i'm glad that there are some significant differences between the various phones on the market)

True... What i was going for.... I made my own site and it uses flash... so "F" publicity stunts like these.... My ipod touch has alot of defects and it randomly happens to go on and off(The bugs) so when i take it to appl eto be replaced.... they tell me to "F" off..... SCREW THEM!!!
