The isn't a concert, why do expect cheering? It's a live TV performance on MOD... is there cheering during the song when people perform on Ellen? No. It's respectful not to interrupt. These are the kinds of performances that introduce the TV audience to a new singer... you gotta be able to hear a song to like it the first time it's played for you.
