@cavemanomar...Chet Atkins only did one vocal to my knowledge,,,in the '70's if memory serves me...never made it very high on Billboard....it was called Frog Kissin'.
@ 3:26. Not Patsy Cline. @ 4:59 I'm sure it's not Connie Smith. Ms. Smith had blonde hair. For Massagra, here's a few: 0:33 The Louvin Brothers. 1:15 Jim Reeves 1:21 Bobby Helms 1:29 Ray Price 1:43 Don Gibson 2:10 Johnny Horton 2:15 Stonewall Jackson 2:18 The Browns 2:33 Hank Locklin 2:52 Kitty Wells 3:12 Leroy Van Dyke 3:23 Sheb Wooley 3:31 Billy Walker 3:47 Bill Anderson 3:51 Wilma Lee and Stoney Cooper 4:08 Hawkshaw Hawkins 4:20 George Hamilton IV 4:24 Ernest Ashworth
In those days, some records would make it on all three charts, simultaneously: Popular, Country and Rhythm and Blues.
Johnny Horton had some outstanding "B" sides on his hits. Songs like "Whispering Pines; The Mansion You Stole and All For the Love of a Girl, were soulful and skillfully crafted.
thank u a lot, that's pure gold. Can u make or tell somebody else to make a similar one about #2 and another for #3 from the same period? for those shouldn't be forgotten.
over half of these songs were big pop hits nearly all of them charted in the pop hot 100 after 1958
Buck Owens was a cool as Johnny Cash and had been accepted by rock fans--then he made the stupid decision to join HEE HAW

"Gone" at 0:57 should be Ferlin Husky, not Faron Young. Still great compilation!

who is the singer in 3:19? is he chet atkins?
cavemanomar 2 years ago
cavemanomar, the singer at 3:19 was Porter Wagoner. I didn't think Chet Atkins sung at all, he did more along the line of instrumentals.

thanks, i checked it on wikipedia, Atkins did some singing from now and then, he didn't have a #1 single though he had a #1 album.
i also didn't recognise the man on 2:34

Is this the list of the #1's on the Billboard COUNTRY charts? Seems extremely heavy on the CW artists to not be.

Yes, it's the country chart. Sorry that should have been in the title.
