@whataboutbob53 Historically, the Christian institution of marriage had nothing to do with procreation, it was a transfer of private property. The woman literally became the property of another man. Procreation is much simpler than marriage, certainly more simple than raising and caring for the offspring. Thus, the more people we have in this world--be they bi, gay or straight--who want to provide a stable, nurturing, and loving family environment for children, the better off we are!

Marriage isn't for procreation. Sex is for procreation. Marriage is a legal institution that gives the members of the union certain legal rights, such as medical decision making, insurance coverage, the right not to testify against a spouse, etc. I say make it all equal or remove the legal benefits of marriage for everyone.

Procreation is much simpler than marriage, certainly more simple than raising and caring for the offspring. The best solution for all of this is for the government to get out of the marriage business completely. They should just stop interfering with it period, there is no reason for them to be involved and no reason for them to grant special privileges to those who are married.
