This is Black/Viking metal at its FINEST, most beautiful, brutal and refined. Emperor is the only band to revive (and even surpass) what bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden did in the 70's and 80's. Everything is here. Everything is intense, tense and beautifully constructed. Every segment is flawless and communicate with each other in a flawless fashion. Other great bands like Arcturus and Satyricon had their moments (even Dimmu Borgir) but Emperor is the greatest metal band since the 80's.

this song reminds me of power metal (i know it's symphonic black meta)l but with a much more interesting feel imo no offense to people who like power metal i just like this more not to sound close minded. This has many characteristics though six string bass seems common in power metal, long haired guys singing with vocal harmonies seems common in power metal. Also the melodic riffing combined with keys is also prominent still i like this more.

Which says a lot because live inferno had a much better tracklist. The performance was simply much more powerful here. Ihsahns vocals were at their best, and Trym's drumset sounds way better here.

I compared the versions just out of curiosity. There is actually not that much of a difference (less than 30 s). The inferno version does not start until 30 s into the song. Also the ending in the inferno version has more silence than the version here.

I gotta say, I resisted black metal for the longest time, partly because of its back history and partly cause i just heard a trebly distorted blur the first times I heard it. That being said, I just downloaded all 4 Emperor albulms, and what can I say, there fucking amazing. I can't stop listening to "Anthems" and of course this song is it's high point, and for that matter one of the greatest metal songs EVER. Brilliant mix of hearfelt emotional melody and pure brutality- amazing.
