the power to weight ratio of a turbo miata is crazy. my friend has a twin turbo pushing about 230+ hp and witht the car being so light the hp equals about 500
@mageac I know he could have said it better, but I understand what he meant. He was saying 250 hp in a Miata is like having 500 hp in other cars. I'm not saying that's true, just clarifying.
According to the dragtimes website, a Miata with 257 horsepower does a quarter-mile in about the same time as a Cadillac CTS-V with 525 hp. The Caddy may have had a horrible driver, but that doesn't mean a 12 second Miata is slow.
Now thats what im talking about a badass miata and for CLCCVIDEO you claim to have a turbo flat six miata that you have done well over 180 im calling bullshit if you had such a car dont you think you would have videos of it? Maybe if video games actually depicted what cars people have but sorry not in this universe.
you guys are funny- i hear say theres some heresey going on around here.
looks like a fun car- this moderately skilled driver is doing his best to go as fast as he can, praise mazda for thier bombproof cars. i have driven many miatas they are wonderful, if underpowered dynamic cars. for everyday use i would take a good condition stock1.6 over any other miata on the planet, monsters included.

It has everything to do with the drivline... Take wheel-hop for example. Poor suspension=wheel hop=broken driveline parts... without proper suspension setup for desired use, the driveline won't get power where U want it and/or will cause a great deal of stress on the driveline.

Good video.
Hate seeing people light up slicks. Especially when it's a good chance they're going to win anyway. I'm told it doesn't affect your track times THAT much.
Slicks are soft compound and work best at an elevated temperature, which is what burnouts are for...they DO effect times if you spin tyres with no traction...
@tearlejc1 +1 and for anyone interested. Street tires are pretty much the opposite. When they heat up instead of getting sticky they get almost greasy so dont try this on street tires, you'll ruin them and your times.
It's the bypass valve. It will make that noise if it vents into the atmosphere. My turbo Mustang has a blow through mass air meter so the air from the bypass valve goes right back into the intake so I don't have that noise. Before when I had a draw through system, the bypass valve made a lot of noise. Most people liked it, but I didn't.
yes i have. My g/f owns one, a stock 1.8 manual, slower than a dead snail. And I own a 92 miata with a 5.0 conversion which makes the car actually a lot of fun.
Dude!?!? Are you fucking serious? All I said was the only turbo kit that I have seen for only the 1.6L is the greddy. How is that arguing or "going at it". It was just a statement...
You post crap up like this, and have nerve to call us children...
And what the hell does maturity level have to do with the car you own? Ill tell you what, when the Government trusts you to operate a nuclear reactor on a carrier, then you can tell me to grow. Until then, you have some catching up to do...
Mine is being built for 500hp. T4 Garret, Tbird rear end, C5 trans (maybe C6), and a lot of praying while in the drivers seat. Currently 250rwhp on a diy t3(saab)/t4(international harvester) turbo and Evo 6 fmic.
a flyin miata 2 liter stroker engine will rev 8000+rpm with longer stroke than a 1.8. an internally stock 1.8 has roughly the same rev cieling as a 1.6, at around 7500rpm. you can push it to 8000, if you want to take the chance.
the only reason why 1.6L miata are popular is because they have more turbo kits available for them...to turbo a 1.8L would juss take alittle more effort to get all the components..so don't ever swap out a 1.8 for a 1.6...that'll be juss plain stupid!
This video is a great example of why so many killer HP turbo miata's say 1st gear is just about useless! Many of them change the 4.30 or 4.10 rear for a 3.90 rear out of the 6 speed cars. I just changed from a 4.30 to a 4.10, though I don't have near the HP to really benefit from it.
i have a basically stock (just exhaust, intake, more boost) msm and 1st is even useless in that. it of course has the 4.10 torsen rear end. it's even worse with the msm's 6500rpm redline.
I have the Tec3 engine management system, redlines at 8000, 550 fuel injectors and fuel rail, light flywheel, ACT clutch that can hold 400hp. car weights 2175 with me in it(I weight close to 145lbs).On 5lbs of boost got me a 13.6 on drag radials(slicks will have less times). I just put in a LSD differential and i should get better launch on track. It should go less than 13.6 on 5lbs and 11.2 on 25lbs.
thats not true. A 1.6L can make power just as well. I have a 94 miata and took out the 1.8L and put in a 1.6L and turbocharged it on stock internals. A big T3 turbo purduce 25lbs of boost on a dyno made 334hp to the wheel and ran me a 11.2 1/4 mile.
I'll bet the chick driving was a little shook up after that one...good to see more girls getting involved in racing. It was a girl right?

i know what power to weight ratio is.
but just because its lighter than most cars doesnt mean its hp doubles
The1320Addiction 1 year ago
@69bakedskater ... if it weight about a pound the hp still equals about 230...
and it would get killed by a 3500 pound 500 hp car... easily...
