the 04 had a much better ECU & EFI Setup 230bhp I think that's why the 04's are better IMHO & harder to get but relativity the same price.

I'll stick with my DSM's for now but I don't hate on dodge just wish they made a damn AWDive version (I would have bought one)

Well, the only bad things I see are... Low top-end. The small turbo has no top end. Swap it to a 50-trim and you're golden. Resale value is pretty low, they don't hold too well. Since they were sports compacts, some may be beaten. They have extremely poor crash safety ratings. The rear windows are manual and the front are automatic. That's about it.

To be honest, none of that should really dissuade you. The stock turbo is decent, getting you to about 130-140 MPH (which I hope you don't do on the highway) while having almost no turbo lag and a great torque curve. The resale value in the 5-8K range means you can find them in a decent price range. Crash ratings are bad, but no amount of electrical goodies will stop a bad driver from crashing, so just be safe. It's a great car for the price, to be honest.

I know there's a good one out in Cali, but I think you may be farther then that. Depending on your age, it might go up, but I doubt it. I drive a sports compact and am a male between 16-21 and I only pay $55 a month, granted, I have a clean record.

Shouldn't be a problem if you've had your license for over a year. Even if it's a little high, ask if they have safety discounts for airbags, ABS braking system, etc., or any driver's ed classes or videos that might help lower it. I know my friend who has State Farm had to watch a little one-hour video on safe driving and he got twenty bucks knocked off a month.

We rented a base Neon in 04, and it's sibling the PT Cruiser (by sibling I mean the underpinnings are the same), last year. I liked both, though I'd have to give the nod to the Cruiser for more practicality points. :) I've always liked the SRT-4, though. It's a shame they went bye-bye with the Caliber. I believe they tried it with one model year, and it must've flopped, because I don't see it offered anymore.

It was not for wieght reduction. In order to meet American market safety requirements a side impact bar was installed in the rear door that prevented installation of a power window motor. This is ALL U.S. market Neon sedans, European models received rear power windows along with smaller 1.6 and 1.8L engines. The Chrysler 1.6L engine was also used in the Mini Cooper. I am going to install the rear power windows from a U.K. market Neon someday. I could care less about or nazi safety rules

It looks like a pretty good car for what it is. I don't think there are any cars in the Neon's class that could out perform it. A friend of my nephew used to have one. I could never get him to race me on the drag strip, but I'm sure it was pretty quick.

While a lot of people say this is is JUST a neon or a ricer, Im gonna have to disagree. Its an amazing car, especially this one. With low mileage (45000 i think?), custom work to the tail/head lights, a CAI, custom rims, clean looking paint, this car has to be going for a good amount.
