  • is this guy stoned or what? He seems so unsure of what he really did and seems on the verge of loosing it altogether at times. Rehearse it, man, then present it like you mean it.

  • Way to be a dick to your cat.

  • @elmaschingon142006 You think cats can jump up to and down from five foot tall dressers, but they're too delicate to be dropped two feet down or two feet over when I toss one off my lap? You have sadly not been around cats enough to know what they are like.

  • did u see the guy who only made the mark w the glass cutter and was alternating between boiling and cold water - and was really smooth...

  • poor cat lol

  • cut your hair, hippie!!! :)

  • @MrTino2312 fuck you faggot , long hair rules!!!

  • or better yet....you can score skip all the other steps and wrap it in some kind of paper and tap it softly with a hammer

  • I thought this was gonna be about weed =s

  • malted milk

  • You're a dick, but you're hilarious. Nice vid, bro.

  • Get married if you want drama, you got that right.

  • HAHAHA you live with ur parents!!!

  • lol he threw teh cat

  • don't hurt the cat

  • 4:00 wtf lol

  • I thought he was about to say ice in your bong

  • Sweet! Ur a great guitar player. Btw. I love how u pick the cat up, shove in the camera, then just toss him. That was funny!

  • Baby Jesus playing with kerosene and throwing a cat... what in the world am I watching?

  • 4:03 loll

  • you should make 4 of those, put them on the cat so it walks like a robot... that'd be cool. also, i made one using this technique and it worked great. good video man.

  • fuck you i am not fucking stupid

  • ROFL 4:03

  • throw that cat man

  • throw that cat man

  • lmfao do you have adhd haha

  • lmao I love how he said you drink wine I know you good shit man

  • Hi kitty!

  • i like how you rest your head on your guitar. lol I do that all the time. pretty good though man.

  • your really cool... love your attitude.. "your fucking stupid, i dont give a ffuack."

  • you get to spend more money if you buy a bottle of wine than buying a glass slide, moron :))

  • not only is a bottleneck slide superior in sound to those cheap pyrex glass ones they sell at the music store, they have a taper that can help reach all the strings at a more natural angle, and the best part of a bottleneck slide is that each slide comes with free wine! : )

  • yea, you have a good point ^^

  • It's a question if being cool.

  • does it have to be a wine bottle?

can it be a beer bottle maybe?

  • Whatever your sliding finger will fit into. I use pinky finger so I can do some chords with the other three fingers, but some people use the slide on ring finger.

  • A wine bottle is perfect becouse of the long straight neck..

  • You have the most adorable cat evar

  • haha this guys funny. im gonna attempt some of these

  • Right on dude! The kerosene shoelace idea is pretty interesting, but probably not the optimal strategy. Seems dangerous. I'd use a vice and a metal file to do the scoring and create a weak point in the glass (since I have those tools); and to stress the glass (instead of kerosene string), I would heat the bottle in the dishwasher or with a lighter and then plunge it into some ice-water (perhaps salted water, to super-cool it).

  • I guess a dremel tool or glass cutter would be optimal, but I haven't always had those. So for people who need to go MacGuyver on it, there's scratching a line with a hacksaw, burning a shoelace around it and crossing your fingers that it will break where you want it to.

Your suggestions for stressing the glass sound a lot safer.

  • i wanna see ya take yer glasses of an get wooohaaa jus play some slide lol an am not a freak...:) much.

Deid rock out some tunes ferget ferget an let lose the cats of slide

  • dogs howling in the back ground,,, good effect on the drama thing....HA HA

  • lol, helpful in everyway, thanks

  • LMAO at the part when threw your cat

  • lol @married drama why the feck you fink am on youtube

other peoples dramma is always better, brass sounds tinny, glass sounds real :) nice vid by the way i made my glass slide 10 yrs ago, same recipe, hm ernie an julio white grenache good call :) got any harmonica neck stand recipes am needin one of those :) dude skype me some time fer slide harmonica goodness, cant accentuate the sanding of edges enough ,lol at side walk like the noahs ark border on yer wwall paper

  • I haven't made any harmonica-racks on my own. That's a little trickier than cutting a piece of glass. I've heard some people used to stick a whole small harmonica in their mouth and play it, but that would take some tricky tongue-work.

  • @deidzoeb hey dude this vid still makes me laugh you should make more :)

  • damn man, you got cool cats and blues dogs and a sweet busted bottle slide. it sounds like your all set :D_

  • dude this video just made my fucking day haha with the cat... 'i know you, you drink wine.... get one from a friend i dont give a shit' ahahahaha

  • I use a 12 gauge shot gun barrel ,,on my pinky! have lots of others but its my favorite.

just get a piece of barrel and cut it off..

  • "If you're stupid, don't do this!"

Come to think of it, I am pretty stupid. I better lay off...

  • check out my vid the way i do it is so safe a 5 year old could do it

  • That has a distinct sound its very interesting.

  • hey, ive got a shortage of wine bottles around, but a shitload of beer bottles, im assuming beer would work fine, right?

  • The way to determine if a bottle will work is at hand -- on the end of your hand. See if the bottle is big enough for your finger, the finger that you use slide on.

  • yeah, it works,kinda

i didnt do very well, though, lol, i guess i didnt etch the glass deep enough, the slide's all jagged and stuff

    but it still plays lol

  • I dont have kerosine, Can I use petrol? How many times do you wrap the string round?

  • I assume petrol would work. Be careful with whatever you use. A glass cutter or proper saw that can handle glass would be safer and easier. I'd guess that wrapping the string around several times tightly would protect the scored part of the glass from the part of the string that was burning, which defeats the purpose, so I'd suggest just once around.

  • Thanks. I did it, and it works. Petrol / gasoline works well. The wine bottle I had in my glass bin just happened to be exactly the same one that you used as well. :-)

  • get one from a friend i don't give a shit.

    My hero.

  • I lol'd so hard at 4:00 when he threw his cat!!

  • brass on aucoustic and glass on electric is the way to go

  • YOU'RE MY HEEROOOO!!!!! :)

  • nice job bud:) love it when you chuck the cat. you were in the middle of someting and that dam cat landed on her feet anyway. mine do every time its uncanny:)

  • Hi - you're a cool guy and this is informative...but please edit your videos or try not to talk rubbish in between your interesting points...you spent so much boring time talking about the chips of glass in the end...holding up it to the camera....

I loved your warning though, "don't be fucking stupid" hahaha love it!

and prob not best to throw the cat on youtube...

  • Are you familiar with the abbreviation YMMV? Feel free not to subscribe or watch my videos if you're bored or hearing rubbish.

Throwing my cat two or three feet down would not get me in trouble with anyone who knows cats. These damn things climb on top of our drape-runners and sometimes jump down from there, more than six feet, apparently without injury.

  • The rambling inbetween is why I like this best. It's hilarious.

  • hahahah i love how he just toss's the cat.

  • Yeah the cat toss was pro.

  • I hate the comments regarding cost! Its a stupid point - slides in the shops can be bought pretty cheap, slides made yourself are pretty cheap. To me it seems like a right of passage, if you love slide guitar you should know that this is how great players of the past made there slides so its interesting to try it yourself..... recycling is cool

  • I don't think anyone has mentioned that you can grab a thick socket from a socket wrench set and use that too, which is cheap if you already own some. I like to grab a beer bottle occasionally when I forget to bring my slides and use the flat side of the bottle body. I can't do it well for a whole song, but it makes a nice trick like playing guitar between your legs.

  • i liked this video 1 it was funny 2 i dint know about the string gasoline way of doing it, 3 its authentic

  • LOL 4:02. This dude is fucking hilarious. I was in stitches laughing at some of the shit he was saying "I'm gonna tell you what I did. But if you do it yourself your fucking stupid!". Great upload.

  • Normal adults can do this!

If u'r Stupid, Don't do it!! ..ROFL hahah!

  • I enjoyed the video, I do not care what others say about the cost either. Nobody wants to make anything themself anymore! The homemade slides are definitely way better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Seems like you're creating the "drama" by responding to douchebags on YouTube.....

    Nice slide...like it.

  • just an idea.

Im gonna try to melt in the chipped parts of my slide with a torch rather than sanding (I use it to make beads so i think it'll be safe).

  • $10.00 bottle of wine, $7 in shoelaces, $10 bottle of kerosene, $3 sandpaper, manual labour, risk.

assuming you dont have all the materials of course. arnt they like $7 at the local guitar shop?

  • I'm way too cheap to pay that much for a bottle of wine or shoelaces. My mom had an old bottle of kerosene for lamps she never used, and she had enough sandpaper to not mind me wasting one of them. I don't know how much slides cost at guitar shops now, because I haven't bought one in probably 10-15 years, since I learned this way. The amount of labor and risk was minimal and well worth it. I overemphasize the risk in this video to discourage dunces from blaming me if they screw it up.

  • At shops they have pyrex glass slides and they sound very different. The only real glass slide I've seen in a store was a dunlop "medicine bottle"that sold for $35... yeah... no thanks.

  • I feel like you're the kinda guy I could have a beer with. Good shit.

  • yeah just throw your cat across the room lol

  • If they can jump up to and down from our five or six foot high bookcases, they'll have no problem falling two or three feet when I toss them.

  • If you owned an annoying cat, you'd understand.

  • I like your style and find it very entertaining. Post more!!!

  • great overall video.. nice riffs..

    5 stars

  • I was just wondering how to do, I mean it would be alot more cheap and fun than to go and buy one for 10 bux ot whatever, I was wondering how to cut the glass? hm? maybe there is something on youtube? and lookie here. amazing! thanks man:) I have a blue bottle I want to use, it should look cool if I dont brake it in the process:)

  • Well at least you play some good old White Stripes on that guitar.

  • lovely wallpaper =D

  • nobody cares wat kind of wine you got

  • Nice vid! You make it fun and stupid too!

  • ohmygod that was so hilarious how you just threw the cat off screen and are like 'Ok, so anyway'

i cracked up on the spot

  • I've seen our cats jump down from six foot high bookshelves. They should have no problem being dropped from half that height.

  • i just found a bottle in the woods and held it real tight and bashed it on a tree. hahaha works for me

  • Instead of breaking it against the ground, an easier, and possibly safer method is to submerge it in cold water. The sudden contraction due to temperature change should give a pretty clean break.

  • Nice playing whats the song called?!

  • it´s Walking Blues

  • sounds like the intro to "american woman" by The Who. Just a guess

  • american woman is by the guess who. not the who.

  • lol

  • haha. as entertaining as it was informational.

    (heart.)

  • mean to your cat?

  • The st1ffyberg is the smartest guy. I did the same thing with a red wine vinegar bottle. Exellent way to cut a bottleneck slide.

  • I've made many bottlenecks over the years.

I've used fire, water, the sidewalk, everything. These days I use a Dremel with a diamond wheel, it takes all of five minutes, and makes a nice clean cut!

    Anyway, keep playin', sounds good!!

  • Forget the part with the kerosin and the burning.

  • Thanks for this!

  • Nice video. I like your presentation style.

  • So what if the guy's married and lives with his parents?

    Go get a life, jerks.

Fine slide playing, deizoeb. Keep at it!

  • You should try it wiht a cheap whisky brand-bottle, they usualy have a straight neck. Take the bottle, leave the lid on and smash that sucker into a wall or something and i'll asure you only the neckpart will live. Just sand it up against a sidewalk andyou got yourself a pretty decent slide. Dont use winebottles the neck is never straigt and on a cheap whisky bottle does

  • Do you realy live with your parents like ronpaul said? well anyway,i heard you can use hot water instead of lighting it on fire with kerosene

  • I live in my house with my mortgage and no parents. But I recognize that the insult about ppl living with their parents is mainly about money and class, as if that's the best way to judge a person's worth. Keep playing music and hopefully those kinds of fleeting worries will fade away.

  • props on the comeback dude

that was some chillin shit to say

  • your maried and you live with your parents, lol.

  • what did he just do to that cat?!

  • I am going to do this as soon as I can!!! awesome video. That was mean when you threw your cat, it is not good for their joints.

  • Seems okay for the cats' joints when they jump off the top of the five foot tall dresser on their own. But I'm more careful with our older cat.

  • you will never get laid

  • You may grow up eventually.

  • the man is married. lol

  • u dont remember if it wuz sandpaper because u were high

  • i like the music you played, whats it called ?do you have a myspace profile featuring your music?

leave me a message so that i know you've responded .

    thanks lex

  • Love your video but an easier way is to use a Dremel tool or similiar with the diamond disc that comes with it. Cuts perfect...in fact I even sell bottle neck slides now.

    Kevin

  • That's pretty inventive, birdman. I heard Duane Allman used to swear by a little medicine bottle for his slide.

  • nice video very good and funny... ust ignore the negatave comments

  • Your the 'fucking' man. love ur playin luv your tutorial luv ur cat throwing (that had me rolf) great vid!

  • Step 1. SHAVE

Step 2. REMOVE LION KING WALLPAPER.

Step 3. WASH UR FACE AND HAIR.

Step 4. MOVE OUTTA YOUR BABY BROTHERS ROOM.

Step 5. QUIT SWEARING, IT DOES NOT SOUND COOL FROM YOUR DEGENERATE MOUTH.

Step 6. MEET UP WITH JOSH BUCKLER AND PLAY DND.

Step 7. REMOVE YOUR CHEEK FROM YOU GUITAR.

  • 1. I did shave, but not in deference to haters.

    2. The Noah's Ark wallpaper will remain. Melinda and I like it.

    3. I don't accept grooming tips from asshats. Kthx anyway.

    4. This is not my baby brother's room. It is the computer room in the house I am paying for. Who owns the house you live in? Are you projecting on me your desire to live independently of parents?

  • 4. (cont'd) Or do you just make insults about where people live because you think money is a great indicator of one's worth or status? That's pretty weak. You might be cool even if you can't afford your own place. I might be evil or uncool even if I have my own place. Ready to grow up yet?

  • You rule I was just picking fights, its fun to see the responses one can get. Good video though, congrats on the house and family ;) Peace

  • 5. I was born in a Naval hospital on the anniversary of the formation of the US Navy. It is my birthright to swear like a sailor. Tune out if you don't like it. And by the way, my swearing was not directed at anyone. Your hateful, stereotyping insults seem much worse than swearing.

    6. I'm pretty particular about who I play D&D with. Who's Josh Buckler? Is your opinion of him as wrong as your opinion of me?

    7. Remove yourself from watching my videos if it disturbs you.

  • Thanks for posting this. I've made a couple of bottle necks. It is cheaper to turn bottles and alum. in a buy a glass one IMHO. My method, score btl well, roll btl over candle along score- run under cold water while turning bottle. Also sticking it in an ice water bath if scoring is good- it'll pop off, Sand paper and concrete for finishing. :)

  • "i dont give a shit", lol.great guy.

  • that is the craziest way ever, dude. no one in thier right mind should try it unless they really know what they're doin. if some one really wants to know a great safe way to make a bottleneck, hit me up.

  • A glass cutter.... THAT YOUR MUM HAD!!!HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • I don't get it. Is "glass cutter" an insult among Brits? Or you just mean it's a manly thing for my mom to have? My mom is a truck driver. When the weather's nice, she rides her harley to work.

  • oh melinda you bitch!

  • Hey Rob!!! You got sooooouuul!!! Great playing.

  • YOU FUCKIN STONER MAKIN SLIDES

  • Nice video. Informative. I've found if you lay the bottle down on it's side, and continuing cutting around and around with a hacksaw, the bottle will weaken to the point the neck will go "pop" and disconnect. This takes time, but it works well.

  • Thanks Keni lee, love your vids...I think my daughter baught me you DVD for xmas!!!!

  • Thank you. Shopping real early this year. That's a good thing. Starting Series 2 Open G lessons in September. Please stay in touch.

  • "get it from a friend, I don't give a shit" hahaha it makes me laugh

  • great playing man.

  • Glass has a mohs hardness of 6 1/2 to 7. So anything with equal or higher hardness can be used to remove the hard edges. Sidewalk works because of the quartz in there, which is at 7. Best available should be korundum sandpaper. Korundum has a hardness of 9 and should do the trick quickly. Hardned steel barely reaches 7 hardness, so it's not the best thing to use a steel file, though it'll probably work.

  • Oh! I made my comment at the very beginning--when you just hit a few notes--but your song!, MY WORD that was exquisite!!! Have you put out a CD?

  • Thanks, nicanicamad. No CD, but I have a few more songs and music videos posted if you're interested over on myspace dot com (slash) evilbobdayjob.

  • I've sent ridi0t over to see this great playing. Have you seen his 'Imagine'?

  • I'll be over there soon--for sure, thanks.

  • Wow you can play! Ry Cooder--if you are taking requests!

  • I don't know any Ry Cooder songs, but I like some of his movie scores. Didn't he do the music for Paris, Texas? Boring movie but the music is good.

  • You didn't like the movie? Wow, to me it is amazing and 'charged'. It was the score for this that I'd really like to hear you play--I have it--how can I get it to you without mailing from overseas?

  • We might have a copy of the movie. I'll see if I can find it. Melinda loves it. Wim Wenders makes really good movies, but he needs a second opinion when it comes time to edit, somebody to help him pare it down.

  • Hmm, never thought of that--and still thinking if I agree or not--i think maybe he's creating an effect with the timing; an intensity. have you seen my favorite of his, "Alice in the Cities"?

  • Very cool, Rob!

  • i enoyed the music!! and your videos too!!

  • Cool. If I convinced anyone to try making their own, my mission is accomplished. Post videos of your results, people!

  • Actually we do have two computers and a router to connect, but the router must be slow because it's almost dial-up speed if you try to watch a video. Also the other one is an older computer running Win98. I use it for writing occasionally, but I don't bother editing videos or music on that one.

  • you can use a jewellers file to smooth the sharp edges (or as you suggest the side walk,or pavement in england)nice bit of slide man! regards bluespower..

  • Dued thats cool. I am going to make one

  • Great job!!

    (((Hugs))) to you and Melinda!!

    Paula

  • Might fine pickin' and singin'!! I may try making a slide with my Dremel tool.

  • WOW you really play good. please make more videos of your blues.
