@axlar1 brotherhoods ending was absolute ass, come to think of it the whole story of brotherhood was ass, the entire plot only serves as a platform for somehow proving that edwards childish and irrational view of the world is the best way to live the brothers are never proven to be wrong, therefore, they never evolve, they are just as disconnected from adulthood as when they first started. THAT is a horrible ending a good ending breaks down a characters views and changes them, this show did that

@tarth74 well you make a good point, but the thing was, in brotherhood, ed had this very mature nature behind his childish appearance. and also theres a lot more to the show than that. first of all you can't really say that brotherhood revolved all around ed. one of the things I loved about the manga/brotherhood was that you can't really call anyone THE protagonist. alot of them had there own tales: mustang, scar, greed(his last words almost made me cry), even the chimaras.and i don't have room

I can imagine at the very beginning walking into a giant ballroom and hearing this music while rubbing my hair. Then, I look ahead and see the most beautiful girl in the world dancing with the most beautiful dress on and I walk towards her. She puts my hand on her hip and I hold her hand and we dance. Are you kidding me? She has way more personality than Father. While Father is a pure demon, Dante has an interesting backstory going all the way back to the dark ages. Her motivations go far beyond her being "evil" like Father. And I thought it was a nice touch for her to be betrayed by one of her own homunculi in the end. I liked the way Gluttony actually sided with Ed and Al in the end.

If she were the better villain, she would have thought things through when she decided to turn Gluttony into a mindless, feral, slobbering beast. Speaking of which, Gluttony DIDN'T side with Ed and Al. Someone who is reduced to some mindless, feral, slobbering beast who just so happens to want to kill people who stood against other people doesn't put him on anyone's side. Set your priorities straight.

He rebelled against Dante because Lust was killed. Lust was the only character he had any feelings for. He was turned into a feral and mindless beast, because they she was trying to get him to eat Alphonse. Manipulating the Gate, she was trying to create a pure stone with no equivalency. She made a mistake, but that doesn't mean Father was a genius. His plan was a lot worse.

But a true villain has convincing motivations and background. Father was completely bland.

And Father was bland because he chose to be. He transferred his "unnecessary" emotions into his seven children, the homunculi. And what else did you expect from someone who spent the beginning of his life stuffed in a flask? Father wanted to be a god to finally gain understanding beyond what restricted him. Dante wanted immortality because she was greedy.

Father's plan completely depended on his five sacrificial alchemists being in Central during the night of the eclipse. Had our protagonists been smarter, they would have come up with the brilliant idea of leaving Amestris during that one night and coming back to face him. Yet despite the fact that he did not force them to go to central, they all did anyway. Hohenheim even gave himself up on a silver platter. The protagonists were dumb. That's how it worked.

He didn't want to "understand everything". That was a cheap lie. He was power hungry, full of sin, and tried to become a god. Father is the prime example of a one-sided villain. He begins as a being representing all seven sins and is pure evil. It's that simple.

Dante on the other hand wasn't pure evil. She initially committed the human transmutation out of her fear of death and her love for Hohenheim. She's shows more depth and as a result, is a more appealing villain to me.

I already told you that he only managed to realize his plans because his enemies were stupid. He didn't even have five sacrifices ready for him that early and was forced to make Roy transmute a human against his will. Dante screwed up in the end, but Father wasn't nearly forceful enough to make his plan foolproof. In reality, the protagonists should have been smart enough to flee the country. Father was rather incompetent himself, but the protagonists were even more incompetent.

I agree :P The first series had better villains. The first series was superior in general, but the part about Brotherhood that I really liked was that there was more about the other countries, and you got to learn more about Mustang and his team.

I agree. It was interesting to see more of Mustang and his team and I did enjoy learning about Xing. I actually enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 of Brotherhood. It's too bad they screwed character development over in seasons 3-5. There were just a whole bunch of fight scenes with no emotion or feeling to them. Plus no one that's human really acts like a human. I saw Ed jump about 3 stories high once. In the original, they actually made them act human.
