I've heard this song on the radio before and I always thought it was singing by a white woman. Now I’m gonna make a search about that lil Anthony and see what else he can give me. It’s always good to discover new stuff. Like recently I just rediscovered Gene Kelly and a bunch of other “old actors” that I find quite Amazing.
3 out of 4 of The original IMPERIALS are STILL WITH THE GROUP as of 2011. "LITTLE ANTHONY" GOURDINE, ERNEST WRIGHT, and group founder CLARENCE COLLINS. Imperials member SAMMY STRAIN retired in 2004, after 40 years of non- stop touring, first with THE IMPERIALS, then THE O'JAYS, and then , with THE IMPERIALS again.
Hey listen, MJ rest his soul was great but there is no way he can touch little Anthony and the imperials, this group was as dynamic as there ever was, this music will last forever and forever...............
@wreepeet you're comparing oranges with apples here. Michael Jackson was an all around entertainer. He not only he sings, he dances and wrote many songs. Not to take anything away from Little Anthony's singing talents because he's a great singer, no doubt; but him and MJ are just two worlds apart.
Romantic, lush rock ballad--sung impeccably and passionately by Little Anthony. FAbulous 'wall of sound' background and reverb and wonderful bridge. Aclassic. ----I never tire of this.
Intense! I'll admit I thought this was woman singing at first! I sing this song to myself during the day everytime I feel like I'm going to lose it for some reason and it calms me down. So sweet and majestic, there is SO much great music to discover from this and other eras of the past. Thanks for the post.
@no3clothing - Ha! He's DEFINTITELY not dead! Still giving great concerts and they sound as good today, if not better, than they did when it was first recorded!
THANK YOU for posting! One of my fave songs from the 60's! If Little Anthony & the Imperials were any cooler, they'd be frozen! May all your wishes & dreams come true in the New Year! :)
I love this song!!! Such soul, such feeling. You can really feel the singer's longing and need for this girl to love him back. Music really used to make you feel something so beautiful and real. I wish it still did. Even though this music isn't my generation, I love it so. I put this song on my Ipod and I reminisce about my first unrequited love or listen to it when I want to relax. Thanks for posting, KnightInWhite!
@andrewfrancis74 What about Teddy Randazzo - he wrote & scored BOTH of these gems for Little Anthony in 1964, both hit top 10, both in bossa nova rhythm, this one with VIBES ! ! Listen again and hook in on those VIBES, it's MAGIC !!! Arrangers and composers don't get enough credit!

When exactly did this hit the charts? It sounds a little too sophisticated and polished for the mid 50s, I'm thinking it came along near the end of Doo-Wop around '62-'63, about the same time Patsy Cline made here last record with all the smooth orchestration. Sounds like the same era, anybody know?
I know that when a man loves a woman it turns your stomach you being gay and all uponstctispinsday but it's a perfectly normal thing for most of the human race.
Teddy Randazzo wrote this song and I think he even recorded this for himself. Teddy was close friends with Little Anthony, so he gave the song to them. I prefer Teddy's version.
