Jimi looks very discouraged during this. Either with his play or if i remember I think something happened back stage. Is this live in in Europe? switzerland maybe?
I'm thinking it is a either a '62 or '63 can't remember. The model would actually be a les paul...lol. The first SG's came out with les paul written on the headstock, only for a year or two. This guitar didn't last very long, I'm sure that Gibson reproduced them at some time though, I know there is an epiphone version. I think the major issue with these and all the '60s SG are the neck joint. I have a '64 with the slim neck and they are bad about seperating from the body if handled roughly.
An interesting version it is. Only to see him take it this slow is an eye opener. At 8:48 he has lost his place in the progression...weird. THE GUITAR is a new SG Custom, not a '61 Les Paul (as pictured at the end of the video) There is also something peculiar going on with this particular SG, sounds as if one of the pickups is reversed phase like the much touted "Peter Green Les Paul".
Yes Bush, It sure is, down to key of A but you can see he is fingering in B so he is down tuned a whole step same as he was on the live Band of Gypsies album. Usually he was down a half step. It is possible but not likely that this got slowed down in video conversion from European ( All mikes appear European & no Fender or Sunn amps ).BTW Albert King arguably a blues influence to Hendrix and a left handed Gibson player also tuned down a whole step.
Freddie King, Yes I like him a lot but I must say I was a fan by proxy for many years being into Claptons work with Cream and John Mayall. When I first heard FK I thought it was Clapton. Yeah I came through the back door but that's okay because the blues has always been a little like gossip: Pass it on.
Amazing!!!!

Do you think he's got the Wah on too?
bush555 2 years ago
No that is the resonance of 2 parallel PUs plus the thining effect of one being out of phase.

Oh, I like it. This Red House is in a different key though right?
