  • "this song is right at the middle of Jethro Tull and TearsforFears"... is it me or the singer really say that just after 0:10 ?

  • WTFWTFWTFWTF AMAZING.

  • Liver version. So much better! Not that I disslike the recorded version, but Live? I wish I coulda been into these guys back in the day!

  • anyone have a date and/or venue for this New Orleans show?

  • the ending of this song live...amazing. after i heard it live the first time, i never listened to the recording of it quite the same again. beautiful harmonies, and the crazy high note roger hits at the end? man. alive. brilliant band!

  • Unbelievable music!!....Total Queen rip off though!

  • Well, thats just damn good Rock N' Roll with great vocals, plain and simple.

  • @mrbobloblaw666 What he said

  • Just think if Sturmer and Manning did a third album. Maybe that was why they broke up because it was to daunting of a task to surpass Spilt Milk.

  • Such an awesome band. Reunion tour, please?

  • great great song - these guys should've been huge

  • Do you hear that? The touch of Zeppelin in them? Just a touch!

  • you didn't hear it from me, but rumour has it that McCartney felt his legacy (and that of the Beatles) threatened and had industry insiders ax Jellyfish. Just like that. Seriously though ... why? what happened?

  • @FlametopFred I would that think by 1990, mccartney was pretty secure in his position as one of the greatest musicians of all time. Doesn't sound like his style. I hear Jellyfish broke up because sturmer and manning didn't get along

  • @KingNast- - - indeed ;) was leg pulliing there :)

  • @FlametopFred haha gotcha... but ya never know, I've seen even crazier ideas in youtube comments!

  • Comment removed

  • @CakeS2k They admitted to their influences. They were still unique enough.

  • wow the end is so amazing! I LOVE THIS BAND.

their music ripped down all genres. and they recorded this in the early 90s! look at the other music that was being made at that time. Jellyfish sounds relevent to today and the 70s at the same time somehow. GREAT BAND.

  • One of biggest regrets is not seeing these guys in concert.

  • I wonder if Andy also recorded drums standing...

    But I'd bet not.

    Anyone?

  • No. Used a bigger kit, too.

  • soo cool

  • I'm pickin up fallen star...

  • One of the best bands of the 90's. They sound like Queen and Ben Folds backed by like thirty musicians...awesome.

  • I think I've watched this about 20 times, it's better than the record! The sound is pretty decent for what looks like a VHS tape. The harmonies are stupendous, the playing is second to none. Alas, I never got to see them live...

  • Every song of theirs was brilliant, and so musically superior to a lot of the crap you heard on the radio.

    Great find!!

  • Man... they were the best... I still can listen to Stilt Milk Front to back and not get bored of it... Splitting was the Biggest tragedy...

  • Wow, why weren't I alive then? I so would have gone to see them if I weren't in born in 1995!

  • Best band of the 90's. Spectacular.

  • There harmonies are amazing!

  • PUFFY AMI YUMI ROCKS!!!

  • burn in hell? lol. really? wow. Um I believe Jellyfish GAVE them the song. Peace.

  • Yup, Andy wrote and produced a lot of Puffy's stuff.

  • I'm a huge Jfish fan. But today it occurs to me how amazing it is that Andy lays down these leads while drumming for the band too!

  • WOW you just figure that out? And Don't every say JFish again!

  • woah dude chill out.

  • Hahahahahaha it's all amazing.

  • Really good video. Jellyfish is the most overlooked band in rock history. Is it me or does Andy look a little like Kurt Cobain?

  • These guys were the best. I wish they were still around. They would of been huge for sure.

  • yes

  • No way, i was at this show too! Saw them three times on this tour. Nashville (on my birthday no less), New Orleans and when they opened for Tears for Fears in Houston.

    'Twas a good year.

  • Great Band, a blend of 10cc, Queen, Beatles, ELO in the beet style, what more can you afford?

  • It's very much Beach Boys in it too.

  • Yeah, I always thought of it as Queen meets The BBs. This song is really Queenish, and stuff like "Hush" and "Sabrina..." sound highly Beachboyzian.

  • Yes but I think sabrina is sounds like Beatles. ( Getting better and Penny lane)

  • Yeah, it really does. The three songs have the same rythm. And the bassline from the chorus sounds like it was played by Paul!!

I actually should have said 'the coda ['Seebriiiiiiiiinaaa'] from "Sebrina..."'.

    Right?

  • how do you mean with the coda?

  • The coda from "Sebrina", that means the ending part of the song.

  • This is the best song by Jellyfish.

  • If you like the Beatles & Queen, get their 2 cds-"Bellybutton, Spilt Milk"...SgtPepper/Night at the Opera good...absolutely humbling songwriters/perfomers..I saw them live 3 times...great lyrics...

  • the real story here is the singing man...the harmonies are so tight (no loss in quality live) and fuckin andy...what a voice.

  • Well, while we're airing opinions freely, I think that Puffy thing is awful.

Is it so hard to write little bubblegum pop songs for little bubblegum pop starlets that they have to go trivializing such amazing music?

    Just an opinion...

  • Sturmer writes and produces most of their(PUFFY)music, so maybe he wanted them to sing a version of this, just a thought. xD

  • Maybe he wanted them to sing a version, cos he thought they could do it better, or maybe Andy just has bills to pay like the rest of us... just a thought 8)

  • Lol, honestly... I think they need to master english before they decide to cover any other songs.

  • One of my favorite songs from one of the ost underrated bands ever. Great lyrics and musical variety from pop songs. Hard to find.

  • w00t for standup-drums!

  • These guys were awesome. Too MANY ego's got in their way, they wont even gather in the same room nowadays. It's too bad, they had great pop magic. They covered Wings on their Jellyfish Comes Alive CD. Only Jellyfish could get away with it.

  • Why are people spamming you, lol, you are just saying what happened.

  • Brilliant! They make difficult and challenging vocals arrangements seem easy. Very few bands today could pull off one of their songs in the studio, let alone live! The music industry is worse off with their absense. Come on, get back together Jellyfish!

  • Saw them in Indiana in '92. Went to see them, not Tears for Fears, and the band was hanging out in the lobby after they opened. Not many people knew of them so we got to meet them all, nice guys. It was surreal! I would love for them to get back together. Their lyrics and music are awesome and they put on a GREAT show! Not many performers are as talented as them and somehow make it big. COME BACK JELLYFISH!!!!!

  • I saw these guys open for Tears for Fears....should have been reversed

  • A magical band!! Anyone who has played and sang in a live band would NEVER deny these guys the credit they deserve!! WOW!!!!!!!!

    ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

  • I was 13 years old when i first saw heard these guys. Saw them once at the universal ampitheatre. awesome! Hey Gama, hope you like jellyfish too!

  • spectacular

  • Saw TFF back in early 90`s, maybe 93`, where Jellyfish opened for them. hadn`t heard of them b4, but was absolutely blown away by their live show. Went out and bought this album the next day. IMO, a great blend of Brian Wilson-BB,Beatles, etc. Would LOVE to see them live again!!

  • Wow.

Seriously, somebody put these guys in a room and keep 'em there til they work out their differences.

We NEED Jellyfish to come back.

  • Eric Dover on lead guitar.

  • WOW.freakin'AMAZIng!!!!Now I feel bad I found out about them so late and never got to see them live. When I heard the CD,I thought,Geez that is really a studio production-they probably couldn't do that live-and here they are, doin'a KILLIN'live version.Their vocals are not to be believed.fantastic harmonies, combined w/the hard-rockin'rhythm section, made them unlike anyone else at the time.Anybody know who is on guitar here?I assume it's neither Jon Brion nor Jason Falkner-right?

  • Lyle Workman did some of the guitar work on Spilt Milk... don't know if he toured with them. Not JF, they didn't get along so well after Bellybutton.

  • They have to get back together

  • kid recommended, mother approved

  • fucking awesome those guys can really really sing-omg :-)

  • FUCKING AWESOME. TIGHT AS HARMONIES.

  • I know about them and fans like us must spread the word. In a time of rock and pop reunions we must all hope for the big Jellyfish gig. Long may they live!

  • Aye, That Is True!

  • God, how I miss this band. Those harmonies are remarkable. Brilliant writing. Brilliant musicianship. Probably'll never be a reunion, but one can hope!

Surprisingly good quality for a fan video. Thanks for posting it!

  • Let me know if you want to trade some Jellyfish DVDs. Check out my clips ... more to come, too.

  • I have a few, what do you have? Did you ever get the netherlands studio stuff?

  • I just can't love this band enough!

  • Ridiculously well done music. Alas, Americans love McDonald's and likewise crap.

P.S. Thanks for the sticker Andy!!!!

  • lol. I'm American, and I <3 Jellyfish

  • Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not... you know that Puffy AmiYumi covered the Jellyfish song, not the other way around, right?

  • Um...no I wasnt being sarcastic. And I had NO clue Puffy AmiYumi actually covered Jellyfish. Nor had I ever heard of the band Jellyfish, but now I do. Im sorry that I didnt know that Puffy didnt cover it...not everyone knows who Jellyfish is(like me). But I have my opinions about the versions I hear...so I think that this version(Jellyfish orig.) isnt all that bad, but I was just trying to say before that I prefer Puffy's version better. So its ok that if you like it, no problem there.

  • Additionally it also goes to show how the japanese music are very influenced by american culture, especially in music. Which I think is pretty cool, because theres several of Puffy's songs that have that "Beatles" influence to them that sounds awesome. Anyways thats about it, but it was just funny how I found that these guys created this song and hearing their version XP

  • can anybody tell me what movie the strings that come in at 1:54 in the original recording are from

  • Stil got my promo flexi from before the bellybutton came out...God I love this band!!!!

  • The ending is more than fantastic - chills...it gave me chills.

  • fukk**n unbelievable! not only were they one of the best, most intelligent powerpop bands of all time, but the nailing 4 part harmonies live... jeez, how come there's no new bands that blow my mind like this?

  • I JUST got the Spilt Milk Album today, and oh man lol, it makes me wanna cry in a corner its so good :P.

  • HA!!!! What a sensational record!!! I'm crying in the corner right now after discovering Jellyfish videos here!!

  • Oh my god this is so awesome. Gotta love Jellyfish..... getting nostalgic and all ;(

  • There's a Jellyfish tribute album coming out soon - there's a page on myspace - if you're interested do a myspace search on : jellyfishtributealbum

  • Thanks norto I would have never known. Jellyfish is one of my major major influences. Thanks again for the info.

  • Rock74, absolutely the effect it has on me. They are the best band I've ever seen in concert - saw them in 1993. Incredible! They are so powerful live, it is hard to put it into words. I stood right there in front of Andy it was awesome!

  • we went from this to rap? Thanks J'fish for keeping the flame of good music alive as best you could.

  • Me likey, lickylike

  • New Orleans was one of the very very last shows. At the LA show, they were talking about how they might get to open up some Euro shows for Lenny Kravitz after this Tears For Fears tour. No such luck.

  • Man all good bands always are screwed by creative differences...

By far I think this is one of the best bands in the 90's...

  • i agree as far them ans toad

  • Great band

    Jellyfist at number 1

  • Fuck yea!!! Nice A Capella( before fate crashed his car). super fucking talent. Long live the fish.

  • Youtube is the greatest! Geez, were Jellyfish an amazing band! No band has sounded like them since, although it's cool that some bands tried and had some success (see Sugarbomb, The Merrymakers, and Fuzzbubble for some nice approximations of the J-Fish boys)

  • Is it okay if I say I prefer Puffy Amiyumi version of this?

  • Not really, no.

  • Amazing. I love this band. I got to see them twice in the early 90s. They opened up for Tears For Fears the 2nd time I saw them. The best part was when they played "Hush", followed by "Fan Club"- they flat-out NAILED it, with note-perfect harmonies. Still gives me goosebumps to think about it. The most underrated band of the 90s.

  • Hush definitely turned me onto them. Absolutely amazing - it brings a tear to the eye to listen to them.

  • I was there too and remember that ( Tears for Fears concert ) . I saw practically all their performances in LA and surrounding areas. You are right it was just amazing.

  • oh my, i got a tear in my eye watching that video - i'm now convinced they were geniuses. reminds me i have some in-store acoustic performances on vhs tapes i need to upload!

  • Consider this your reminder ;-)

  • consider this your second reminder :-/

  • Truly great musicians! Good to see these clips here. Too bad there aren't any DVDs of live shows. Or are there?

  • This song is sooooo good.

  • Perhaps the best band no one knows ever.

  • how does brittany spears become a superstar and these guys didnt? this world is effed

  • Yes....it is. It's always the way that good bands go largely unnoticed. THe general populace has no clue about great music.

  • I heart jellyfish.

  • Genius....criminally underrated band.

  • God I love this band... great performance footage even though it starts off dark, the audio is excellent. FYI: Check out Roger Manning Jr's. "Solid State Warrior" it's great post-Jellyfish stuff.

  • Meant to say, okay not as good as the version on "Spilt Milk" (not that it could be as that's perfect) but awesome anyway.

  • My favourite band! Thanks so much...never seen any footage of them before. Then again, no one down here in Oz ever heard of 'em so I guss that's why.

  • I've heard of em, though I was living in London at the time. While I was over there I worked with another Aussie who actually saw them live, the lucky sod.

  • andy looks like a smurf in this one.

  • Wow! With all that talent, it's a wonder the room didn't just explode!
