  • The slight audio/video delay makes the conductor look ridiculous.

  • The only mistake I heard was when he slid into his high harmonic, it was a little louder than I think he intended it to be. I can't blame him though, harmonics are so squeaky if you don't know exactly where you're going. Everything else was very beautiful. He has such clear sound!

  • so clear 0w0 how does he do that

  • This music is so beautiful! I love the music of Mozart.

  • TY cs foor posting.

  • Rushed. Great technique. But no music. Very good. But not over the edge. Like the orchestra.

  • who needs a chinrest when you have chins like mine?? haha

  • @firebot4

    ChinS?! O.o

Do you have multiple chins? :D Awesome!

  • very,nagyon....muy pero muy bueno,,exelente,,,si que me gusto.

  • Mozart Istenáldotta tehetség volt. Szalai Antal pedig nagyon szépen hegedül. Jó hallgatni.

  • It realy sounds like W.A.Mozart!

  • this is very good¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

    exelent ;D

  • very goog

  • his pinky is funny

  • omg what an amazing violinist

  • BRILLANT

  • No puedo creer que haya 6 votos negativos. Cómo es posible?

6 negative votes... how is it possible?

  • It's just my impression, or this guy uses the fourth finger like five times in this movement (exagerating).

  • anyway whats this guys name thats what im wondering anyone please answer

  • @Shua26 Antal Szalai.

  • @TheDNA12345 thanks wait is this his only video?

  • @jkfiddleboy yeah im learing this song too he makes it like you can do it in like 2 days

  • The oboe player looks like he's trying to eat his oboe! :-)

  • @TheDNA12345 yeah he does

  • There is no such thing as a perfect interpretation of any piece, but in my tastes this is as close as it gets, excellent playing! Its especially helpful to watch him play as I learn this piece myself! Thank you very much for uploading.

  • I'm playing this now and I simply adore this cadenza. Anyone agree?

I spent a lot of time just trying to get the tempo to performance tempo. NOT easy.

  • @ViolinBachlover123 I'm actually not fond of this cadenza,,, it is a little more contemperary than what Mozart would have liked...

  • I'm playing this now and I simply adore this cadenza. Anyone agree?

  • very good!

  • before they zoom in at the beginning i thought i was looking at jimmy kimmel. HAHAHA...

  • Wonderfull playing! Thanks therefore an to FranzH for sending me this Clip! Sincerely Matze ;-)

  • Schöne ruhige Musik, tolle Ausführung.

Schön gemacht Clip. Ich wünsche Erfolge.

    Mit freundlichen Grüßen - Roman

  • his face makes me think of a cartoon puppy

  • So epic and beautiful at the same time!

  • love it, very free, does not sound learned or forced.

  • I love 3:48

  • 7:46-7:58 always reminds me of the first movement of Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto.

  • I like his left little finger.

  • Thanks so much for posting!!!!!! My audition went great... ...thanks again for posting!!!! it REALLY helped!!!!!!!! :)))))))

  • i luv his expression and body language and just EVERYTHING...oh and i personally think his expression is cute...well, not that kind of CUTE, but still. ;D

  • it sounds so amazing! i'm currently doing a part of the concerto for my violin audition, so might as well listen to it more to get the feel of it. :)

  • i am learning this piece (:

  • wtf everyone is either preparing for some kinda orchestra or is already in one or somthing

  • @katrebello my audition went very well! I got in to the symphony level, which was great!

  • His playing is fine, but why is his pinky so stiff? i would think the double-jointed way he holds it would hinder his movement somewhat . . .

I use the International version of this piece, which contains Ysaye's cadenzas, and I loathe them, simply because they do not seem wholly Mozartian. They're too Romantic; the way Mr. Szalai plays them just emphasises the overly Romantic nature of the cadenzas . . . Not my favorite rendition of this piece.

  • @SpainStateOfMind

I agree with you on the cadenzas. But hey, the modern audience equates romantic interpretation with passion - the dude's gotta sell tickets to eat. As for the pinky thing, some people's hands have little oddities that they've grown accustomed to. I don't think it hinders Antal's playing but I certainly wouldn't teach anyone to do it the way he does =P

  • Superb and tasteful playing. Lovely easy style made to look and sound effortless. Thanks for posting.

  • I have to play this for my recital saturday. If only I could play like thiss, haha.

  • Yay I am playing this peice for a school exam :)

  • This is a beautiful concerto, I am playing it for a youth orchestra audition soon and am so excited. The violinist is very expressive, has a beautiful sound.

  • @teamneville21 What a coincindence! I am also preparing this concerto for a youth orchestra audition soon! I hope you did well, my audition is in about three weeks :)

  • I'm just starting to play this piece now and I'm so excited!

  • @cohataiv: I agree. So many violinists with less style and uniqeness these days :P oh well.

Please do not take this offensive, it's truth that we all see as artistic musician, not just as technical musician.

  • Of course, I didn´t say he plays bad. No, he´s a skilled player. But he doesn´t respect style of Mozart´s age. He should play romantic pieces, I think. It´s just my opinion. Anyone can disagree...

  • @cohataiv So how do you think he should play?

  • Largement meilleurs que la moyenne ce violoneu!!!

  • cadenza sounds too baroque... sorry guy you have to match that to the era... no offense. well played but disappointing.

  • one of the most ourstanding version i've heard

  • pretty cool. I'm doing this one for my violin grade 7 next year.

  • how old are u?

  • I don´t like when this kind of music is played like in romantism...

  • Hi!

Could you give me an example of acting style that you like?

All I have heard violinists who play this concert is in this way.

    Greetings!

  • I like this... im playing this for my grade 8 exam in september... but i dont think im getting the technique write... dooes anyone have any tips that i could use for the cadenzas and this piece??

  • FINALLY! A cadenza other than Sam Franko's! Franko's is wonderful no doubt, but this is a refreshing change of pace. Wonderful!

  • brilliant

  • may i know who composed the cadenza?

    it's good!

  • lemme tell u something.(this is pretty much in general.)

Usually, the Soloist makes up their own cadenzas.

so now you know the obvious. =)

  • bello veramente!! BRAVO!!

  • magnifique !!!!!!!!!

  • superb !!!!!!!!!

  • good!!!! i'm learning this:]

  • awesome playing!!!!! I like this one better than the one of isaac stern playing this:] but i think it has something 2 do w/ the different video qualities:]

  • Is it just me, or are the video and audio a bit out of sync?

  • Fico ipressionado ao ver o tanto que o brasileiro e desinteressado em cultura clássica.

    O preconceito hoje, ainda é evidente e ainda sim acredita-se aqui no Brasil que música clássica é coisa de rico;

  • i like this piece ...learning the 3rd movement too. but playing this one for my audition to go to the conservatoire ...and lmao at the chin rest comment ..hahahaha

  • lol one can say this guy is endowed with a natural chinrest

  • i think he uses a stradivarus because he is borrowing one from some person or muesuem

  • i love the singing tone he produces. anyone know what kind of a violin he uses?

  • uses a stradivrus

  • i wish i could play this piece as well as him...

ive never really liked this one, but thats probably because i suck at it :/

  • Absolutely Amazing! I love how he "frolics" on his violin; sounds most teasing and please. =)

I have played this concerto, but he has me inspired to study this piece once again.

  • me encanta este concierto!!!.espero tocarlo alguna vez

  • I have this transcribed for viola. Absolutly a beautiful piece. He does a miraculous job, well done

  • 2 or 3 points slower than this, but otherwise the phrasing is pretty much spot on, with a luscious sound coming out. =)

  • This is the best rendition of this concerto I've heard in a long time. I love the simple cadenza, not too flashy and the small ensemble is fantastic. Perfect tempo.

  • Great spirit, gorgeous tone and wonderful ensemble.

  • He's marvelous,

but goes to fast for me!

    I can't play along =[

  • excellent violoniste.ces images viennent de la RTBF(télévision belge)et l'orchestre est l'orchestre de chambre de wallonie/concours reine Elisabeth de belgique.

  • Bravo. Great job.

  • And for anyone else that wants to know:

    Cadenza by Joseph Joachim.

  • i love his tone. I too have not heard of this violinist. A nice discovery. He plays with charm and clarity. I think he is very much like Kreisler. By the way, the cadenza is not his own, I have a recording of Arthur Grumiaux playing the same cadenza.

  • wow

  • gratulálok,nagyon szép,nagyon szép hangon játszol!kár hogy nincs magyar komment...ezért 2x gratula!

  • Wow! I love the typical sound of his 1733 "ex-Garay" Stradivarius.

  • is it his cadenza?

  • no. The cadenza was written by Joseph Joachim. One of the great violinists of the past.

  • This cadenza is actually written by Eugene Ysaye, and it is the same as Grumiaux used. (Both Grumiaux and Szalai play a shorter version though)

  • This candenza was actually written by Eugene Ysaye and is here played in a shorter version. (cut on the same place as Grumiaux did in his version=)

  • ...i have the recording of grumiaux and on the cd it says cadenza by joseph joachim?

  • He played it so well that I wish 1 day that I could be him.:)

  • This is probably the best Mozart I've heard after Paul Makanowitzky.

  • His candenza is really good. The whole thing is good really.

  • I wish I could play that well.

  • he is playing well.By the time I play this song at the time, too.

But I think that I can never play it like this.

Sorry, but maybe my English is not very well, thats because I am from Germany ;-))

  • he really serves the music. I hadn't yet heard of him. He's in my favorites no question

  • me too, for an orchestra audition. This is one of the best recordings I've found on UTube.

  • he makes it look so easy!

  • I have a question is the candenza in this particular movie is diffirent on other movie but also the same piece??? because the cadenza of my score is different from this though its the same piece

  • cadenzas cann all be different

depending on the person who did the redution

  • whats dresdens???

  • i love tis piece~

  • Simple and nice :)

I really like that he's not showing off and he's not trying to impress. Good job!

Also the cadenza is so good!

  • i have to say it brings tears to my eyes to know what the world has come to... music no longer requires the same amount of talent it used to ask for.... as a composer and a musician i can't help but to hope to go back to the age of music instead of todays computer mastering crap......

i've never missed a single chance to watch an ochestra ever.... the purest form of music at its best..

  • wow! great playing!

anyone have the next two movements? i'm working on it right now (with ysaye's cadenzas) and was looking for some recordings. i'd love to hear him play the next two movements!

  • haha i'm working onthe same one

  • Haha, me too!

  • As am I. For a college audition.

  • Bravo !

    Very Very ... Good !

  • this guy is soo natural i cant picture him practicing O_O...great job

  • The cadenza is from Ysaye. There is also a short first one on page 3.

  • Thanks a lot for posting all the review about this violinist. I really appreciate knowing about the people I listen to.

    Great video too.

By the way, does anybody know whose is that cadenza? I never heard it before and was wondering if he had composed it himself.

  • Stunning - thanks for posting! :-))
