  • I must be homosexual as I am strangely attracted to that lad playing the bass

  • PSYCHO KILLER

  • .... i`d smash her back doors in, OOoosh!! :)

  • oh shit I was 23 - was this really only 1978? was I that young?? remember the Whistles was a MUST WATCH!!

  • What a great base. Tina can really play!

  • totally agree with yesmrchalkley,, everything seems better on the old grey whistle test-- it needs to come back and stick to the same format..

  • I can't seem to face up to the facts

I'm tense and nervous and I

    Can't relax

I can't sleep 'cause my bed's on fire

Don't touch me I'm a real live wire

  • I frigging love this song, great song!!!

  • Good Lord. It's no Okinawan Pop that's for sure.

  • Shit! What a bass line!

  • I love the way they play with their songs during diffreent performances – maybe downplay some bits, then compensate by bringing new wonderfullness to other stretches. Each performance invites a click of the mouse ‘cos you never know what you’ll hear.

  • Tina Weymouth is so cute here! And these guys truly are the band next door. They look like guys you'd see walking down the street or at the library or the grocery store or something. I love that.

  • Grandi!!!!!!! Teste parlanti e specialmente pensanti

  • What type of bass she used? Fender Mustang bass? With what type of pickups?

  • I used to hate theWhistle test but it must my age because there is a host of really brilliant must. Even shit i wouldn't usually listen to. Talking Heads - what can be said??? 10.

  • great. punkrock meets hippy.,., same as i am. a hippy who tries to be a punkrocker,.

brilliant... emotional, perfect 9. this band gets a 9. Cheers! Talking

    heads...... made in december 2010.

  • Fucking brilliant! Love this track!

  • this is one of my favorite performances of this particular song. I especially like how he tweaks the words "my lips are sealed," which i have not seen (or heard, actually) in other performances. Also "fire" and "live wire" receive similar fun and rare? tweaks. Though if other versions with similar tweaks exist, i'd love to hear about it!!

    Anyhow, great song, great version.

  • You can grab the audio-mp3 of this vid at grabaudionow doht cohm.

  • That was nice to hear and see. Was cool having Jerry sing along. Really got a sense of seeing them in the early days after watching. Thanks for the post.

  • Punk Rock ==polo shirts + khakis + a chick whose Fender Jazzmaster weighs 2/3 as much as she does. BRILLIANT!!!!Their music helped me to figure out much of Life During (cold) Wartime.

  • I hate people when they're not polite.

  • david byrne= musical genius

  • amo los 70`s¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • amo los 70`s¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Tina really makes this

  • Tune, who cares about that, my brother went to Berklee school of music and I'd go see him and we'd check out the college band in the local bars and man could they play...........but what they all lacked was being able to really PLAY, all were highly skilled and very technical but lacked (I'll call it} soul, all bored me to tears, Talking Heads don't ever bore me,

So, if ALL you can hear is the tuning ....... the problem lies with you!

  • Stop making sense

  • Today, if anyone remembers this respond, Good music, and a time before the tech and others destroyed .

  • Qu'est-ce que c'est?

  • Wow, I've listened to a ton of music, and this is one where someone is really noticeably out of tune. It's like they couldn't hear.

  • @Exilemainstreet more like they didn't give a fuck, tune is bypassed when passion trumps as is the case in most of their songs

  • Psycho Killer Qu'est-ce que c'est? fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa better. Run run run run run run run away. OH OH OH

    Great Song ;-)

  • Lets make a list of great psycho killers. I'll kick off with :

Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin, Polpot, Norman Bates, Bonnie and Clyde, The British Establishment, President Mugabe, religion, Ted Bundy, USAF . . .

  • Oh yeah, she's not staring at Byrne. She married the drummer., Chris Frantz and co-founded Tom Tom Club with him. She's beehn rather sour of him but she's a professional, thank you. She's just looking for cues, to paraphrase Robert Palmer.

  • she can barely play that bass and is wanting to follow the leader

watch her watch him for the changes while lead is self contained

  • @BrainMetabolism haha. You're brain metabolism is low.

  • @Kat151, if that's your game, you must be a fat pussy haha.

  • @BrainMetabolism apart from anything, Weymouth's urgent bassline clearly drives the track. It is clean as hell and doesn't miss a single beat, unlike a bajillion lesser bassists. It is totally normal for bandmembers to look at each other, and if produces skill such as this, should be done more often.

  • @Kat151 duh. Tina rocks, and she's hot, but that has nothing to do with anything

  • this is not music....enough said

  • @purpleswan6 the band isn't even that old--please realize also that I'd LIKE my bass player to be paying attention like that (if I had one).

You've never played horns or winds in even a High School band or orchestra?

PS Tina Weymouth is an excellent musician. See also Tom Tom Club.

  • @steadfastcoward Here, here! Tina is superb. This may not be the most difficult song for a bassist, but she's all around amazing.

  • @Sinsemilla4u Neither this nor many other TH songs were songs to play while asleep and David was always in control of all the odd things. Still, to criticize a player without any apparent knowledge of the history of the band is probably comical. Probably his first time seeing them. I guess it might now be helped. When I was four and got my first radio I listened to a station for a year before I knew the Platters were from the 1950s and Chicago was brand new!

  • @purpleswan6 BrainMetabolism too (somewhere And I hope this doesn't look as bad as in my normal browser, all the crap runs together and I just did two posts in one

    RETSYN!!! Dang!

  • i love this track

  • They might be out of tune---but, ya know what? It doesn't matter. This performance was born to be unpitched.

  • have you got it with the introduction just before they start playing the song?

  • Amazing, they finish up sounding like Can!

  • OGWT looks like about as pure as your going to get as far as an honost representation of a given band's live performance abilites. Thanks to everyone who has posted vids from it, I have spent hours enjoying it!

  • Haha, I forgot how weird the talking heads were...

  • ay ay ay ay ay ayyyyiiiaaaa!!!

  • Comment removed

  • fuckig crazy!!!

  • chris and tina produced the happy mondays in barbados,..the mondays used to get compared to these

  • Having bought the OGWT DVD set I have to say this performance is ace..

    Two things:

    1) David Byrne is trying to be Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) here. A bit too obvious that.

    2) Having viewed this song a few times on DVD i was sure the bass player was a guy! Oops.

  • @KawadaFan Well, maybe Tina is a little skinny looking here but where else do you get such nice percussive, powerful basslines like that? It's an incredible perfomance.

    PS THE FINGERNAILS... : )

  • @steadfastcoward Great performance indeed but I just thought it was a guy (was watching this video on a big-ish screen TV). Maybe it's the short hair or something. Missed the fingernails. Oops again.

  • @KawadaFan It was a glorious time to be alive too!

It sucked but it sucked nicely ;-)

  • Incredible. Absolutely incredible. I always found Talking Heads a good band. This performance is the beginning of a new obsession I think.

  • UFO from planet Xzzzer4 deployed David Byrne in Scotland taking the place of a newly born child, then he lived in Canada since he was eight or something then moved to America. Get it right.

  • bass is slightly flat but their performance of this live at CBGB was much better.

  • @Anglynn74 A lot of the performances by different groups on OGWT sound a little flat, so I think its the equipment more than anything.

  • @icemachine79 It's 1978 TV, stereo is a rare experiment or a simulcast with an FM station and this show was produced in Britain...for all that it's honestly TIGHT and damned good stuff. OGWT should be a national treasure right up there with Doctor Who and Monty Python. The only true competition it would've had would be the Midnight Special and of course Top Of The Pops.

  • @steadfastcoward- Except Top of the Pops was shit. They dumbed bands down, and made all these bullshit restrictions. OGWT was miles better in my opinion. More realistic.

  • @superlou1s I guess it helped to live in the UK instead of IDAHO at the time...

Then again I liked Dynasty more than Dallas and watched TJ Hooker and Hunter more often.

  • Tina is playing a major bass line, that's half of the song - she = great!

  • And the BAND is American, which is what I said. And Byrne basically grew up in America.

  • Brilliant bass

  • TINA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

  • i think the bass is a little flat

  • they are american !!!

  • It's funny how super american the band looks here, it's just something about their clothing style and manner that is different from the other Brit bands on the show.

  • Uh, probably because they are American. Formed in NYC back in '74.

  • I know they're American. I'm just saying how noticeable it is.

  • @pianojunkie1 ...uh !....singer david byrne is actually scottish born

  • born in scotland but grew up in the US

  • Good song, but this live version had an annoyingly self-indulgent ending. It would have been better if he just said, "That's all. Over to you!" at 4:00.

  • The original recording also ends with a crazy distorted jam session.

  • Sorry but the ending is awesome.

  • good editing on this. Hats off to the guy pressing the buttons! Saw them all. Nice bit of classic filming.

  • Such a simple bass line, but really carries the song. Awesome!

  • Nono can you learn this base line?

  • May be the best bass line ever?

  • tina weymouth - wicked base line or what?

  • Absolute Classic....

  • Jerry Harrison formerly of the Modern Lovers on Rythm Guitar/ Key Boards

  • wow

    They really go wild

  • this is so much more the 80ies, man!

  • And in English what would that mean?

  • Haight-Ashbury 1967.

Seriously, though, if you put a curly wig and weird false beard on David Byrne, he would become Frank Zappa. Wasn't it Mike Oldfield who called punks "short-haired hippies"?

  • FYI, Zappa loathed hippies and hippie 'culture'

  • a Dumbarton boy.... Byrne eccentricity in itself

  • David Byrne is a genius. Some might see his manner as eccentric but then most geniuses are eccentric.

  • i would say that he was influenced by roxy music

if not he sure does come across that way

  • I swear every band sounds amazing when they're on the old grey whistle test.

  • @yesmrchalkley E.L.P don't!!

  • it's a fantastic song...

  • bass guitar drives this song. tina weymouth..

  • When I have nothing to say my lips are sealed....

  • Great performance, especially Tina. Shame that the others look as though they've just stepped off the eighteenth tee.

  • that woman is one of the best, helped invent hip hop a la tom tom club

  • i think jake should learn his music, who cares i dont see you on the whistle test? or any musical show for that matter, so before u run your mouth think where u are and where these lot were!

  • ^^ I think the psycho killler is the one who plays the bass

  • mitch is your mother =D

  • i love the bitch on the bass.. looks so serious.

  • The bass may be out but it's gorgeous at least :)

  • the bass is out of tune

  • how bout this ...your out of tune!

  • um.. okay i was just saying ¬¬

  • I think Jake is correct, but it doesn't detract from its appeal for me at all.

  • @gribbstone234 Wtf? this is a classic performance when bands actually played for playing not tuned up. put your autotuned ears up your arse.

  • @PinkneysDefiant Lovely sentiment :(

Remember, Talking heads hate people when they're not polite. :)

  • @PinkneysDefiant idk, i mean, yu tune ur instrument. i dont what genre ur in

  • @gribbstone234 when punk rock was supposed to be in tune?

  • The chick scares me... she looks like a zombie...

    Great song though.

  • Too bad the drums are so low, but at least it has Tina driving things.

  • I love the scared looking stage manager when he starts turning the amp up....Oh my God they can't make this racket on the B.B.C!

  • im so happy they put this song on rock band 2!

  • i fuckin love this bassline

  • A bit off topic but I remember someone doing a parody called "Psycho Chicken" with clucking during the Fa Fa Fa part. Any ideas?

  • Classic!!!!

    Coxynuma.66.

  • whats the bass players name she is well sexy ! brilliant version .

  • That's the wonderful Tina Weymouth. If you think she's sexy here check out "Stop making sense"

  • I agree with ianwr000. In particular, check out the song "Genius of Love" on "Stop Making Sense" - her moves are fucking amazing!

  • che bella versione!

  • Fu fu fu fu i yi yi yi yi Oooooooo :D

  • You can certainly hear the bass in this clip :-)

  • "old grey whistle" era un club famoso in cui tutte le bande alternativi avevano suonato. Cerca per gli Sparks This town ain't big enough for both of us". Grazie per la canzone.

(Odio il congiuntivo, studiarlo e' una tortura per uno greco)

  • te la cavi piuttosto bene mi sembra!

  • this is great. thanks for posting

  • you're welcome!
