Those melting glaciers feed whats called the "oceans conveyor belt". It makes the deep ocean currents. Where it meets warm water, thats where aquatic life is in mass (watch deep blue, feeding frenzy). Its prob the most important thing for the ocean.

The reasonwhy there is Ice at the polesis that they never see direct sunlight and they melt from warm water from the tropice.

The Sun heating the tropics actually staves off "Ice cube earth" via the sea currents but massive meltingof Ice can cause dumping of toomuch fresh water and stop the current flow which will cause another "ICe Age"...not "total meltdown"

Many people misinterpret "Global Warming" to simply mean the temperature is going to rise in their neighborhood. Think more along the lines of "Global Climate Destabilization" and you will get a better picture ... expect more radical changes in the weather and it's consequences. I worked in Thule Greenland in the 80's and the continental glacier has receded so far inland from when I worked there it isn't even funny.

Now I work in WY and the glaciers here are receding to the point that the first big ones will be gone by 2020.
