  • Sir Charles really deserved a ring

  • Comment removed

  • @highwater03 Highwater you are an idiot. Winning back to back titles is no small accomplishment. The Rockets are one of only a handful of teams in NBA history to repeat as champs. You are an ignoramus. You are a joke for making a stupid comment like that.

  • Who is Chucky Brown? Who is Pete Chilcutt? Ole Charles Barkley found out who they were that day. I bet he never forgot, either. And of course, who can forget Mario Elie (aka Junkyard Dog) and his famous Kiss of Death? That is one of the greatest moments in the history of Houston sports.

  • kenny vs chuck

  • Basketball was so much better when NBC televised it. Listen tho the intro and that's all you need!! A Game 7 intro made the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention!! Basketball on ABC is boring!! The announcers have little heart! Bring back Greg Gumbel to basketball!!

  • @anthonymonroe I agree I can't stand Jeff Van Gundy and Mike Breen. I wish Van Gundy would go back to coaching. AT Least Mark Jackson is gone. God only knows who his replacement will be whenever the NBA comes back. I been watching the NBA since the end of 1983 and damn I long for the old days.

  • I sure would have loved to seen Rockets vs Bulls in 94 if Jordan never retired. Cuz you know the Knicks would have choked again.

  • The PHX looks so much different these days, there was a time when U.S. Airways' Center's location was way out there, not anymore...

  • That Rockets team, more than any other NBA champion I recall, did it the hard way.

Five wins while facing elimination, overcoming big deficits, no home court advantage- and they had to beat four excellent teams that would be considered title worthy.

That title defense reminded me of a line from Bill Simmons' Book of Basketball- "to get rid of us, you're going to have to chop our head off like we're Jason in Friday the 13th because that's the only way we're dying"

  • Great matchup but Hakeem was the difference especially with Sir Charles bad back

  • BRING BACK THE NBA ON NBC!!!! BEST INTRO EVER!!!

  • Basketball was so much better when NBC televised it. The 1995 playoffs were great!! The NBA on ABC is pathetic! Listen tho the intro and that's all you need!!

  • @highwater03 Well, shoot, going by your standards, there are very few good teams in the league's history. Chicago, L.A. Lakers, and Boston, I believe, are the only franchises to have won at least three consecutive titles. A three-team league would not be that entertaining to me. Jordan was NOT "just getting his legs under him" in 1995, as evidenced by the 55 points he scored against the Knicks shortly after he returned--in great shape, apparently. So your argument doesn't wash.

  • @HoustonRules

Oh God. Dude it's what, 2010? The Bulls have how many titles? How many does Houston have? Did they ever three-peat? No.

    End of story..................

  • @highwater03 You got it. The Rockets never three-peated. 27 out of 30 teams in the league have never three-peated. A three-team league would not be entertaining. I never said the Rockets won more titles than the Bulls. I just said that in those two years (give us that, will you?) the Rockets were, for once, the best team in the league. Just those two years. Bulls have won a lot more titles overall. That's it. OK?

  • @HoustonRules yea okay u take 17 months off of anything u not gonna be fully back baseball shape and basketball shape is two different things so u gonna judge one performance to say he back to full form please!! IT dont matter now cause that playoff lose did was fuel mj fire they never lost again cant say that bout the rockets!!

  • @kenbron You'r right, I can't say that about the Rockets. Thank goodness because a three-team league would not be entertaining. And yes, I'm using one performance to judge his basketball shape. He scored FIFTY-FIVE points on the Knicks. You think he would have had 150 if he was in full season form? Come on. Again, I never said the Rockets were a better franchise than the Bulls. We were just better for those two years only. And you're right, we haven't won squat since.

  • @kenbron MJ got a significantly upgraded team the very next season. The Rockets owned the Bulls when they were winning their first 3 titles 5 games to one. You can try to dismiss those titles all you want, but Jordan's numbers in the 95 playoffs were not significantly different then in 93, 96, 97, or 98.

  • Phoenix was greart back them,Majerle,Ainge,Barkley,Schayes.

Today my phoenix suns should be called Phoenix sucks.

Today we do a great season, then playoffs, then elimination. We are today, what the sonics were in the 90's.

  • SUNS choke job part II.

    Disgusting.

  • haha you hit that perfectly

  • Great game. I miss the NBA on NBC.

  • @anthonymonroe

NBA on NBC seemed so much better than it does now on ABC.

  • @999beme Absolutely! The NBA on ABC is horrible!

  • Wow. Those are the good ole days!

  • The Dream = Unguardable

  • Hey Coolbluemoon;

If you have this entire game would you mind posting it? I'd love to watch this game and re-live those great moments.

Thanks for the post; great quality

  • 9Bluejay, someone has the full game posted. Here's the Youtube backlink; enjoy!!!

    /watch?v=fI3BeJ6zEPk

  • I'll say it here..Hakeem and the Rockets would of won at least one if not both of their championships even if Jordan hadn't retired. For one Jordan retired because he was burnt out mentally from the media and basketball. And his father being murdered had a big impact on him retiring as well. Finally, nobody on the Bulls frontline had an answer for Hakeem..nobody

  • haha yeh right we all know what happens when people doubt MJ ur smart

  • and we all know what happens when you underestimate Hakeem and the Rockets...you're smart

  • @crs2333 I concur.

However, the Suns should have won both titles after assuming commanding leads over Houston both years. But it's hard to win a championship with a superstar as undisciplined, both on and off the court, as Charles Barkley.

  • NBC could have hyped up a middle school game in Wyoming and I still would have watched . . . that music and those intros I grew up watching in the 90's were FLAWLESS.

  • Haha, Great point. lol

  • @IsaiahFielder hahaha i was thinking the same damn thing!

  • @IsaiahFielder You are 100% right. My god it still gives me goosebumps. Fuck the NBA for moving over to ABC. We all grew up watching NBA on NBC and the intro and music were ALWAYS so damn epic.

  • CHILLS

  • that's why he scored 55 pts against the knicks earlier in the season....yeah he wasn't in shape. don't forget that maxwell always played jordan tough. and hakeem would have totally dominated bulls centers. horry equaled pippen.

  • If Jordan hadn't retired in 1993, Rockets= 0 titles.

  • way to support that argument....

  • You like Houston teams I see.

    How's that working for ya?

  • @highwater03 Better to be a diehard who supports the team win or lose (with a lot of lose) than to be a bandwagon-fan. Plus it makes the winning (when it does happen) that much sweeter. But a "high water" fan who disowns losing teams will never experience that joy.

  • @HoustonRules

Okay. You don't even know me. I could call you a bandwagon fan just as easily. See? Get a life.

  • @highwater03 You're right, I don't know you. But you implied that you don't support losing teams when you insulted Houston sports fans by saying "how's that working for ya" implying you don't ever root for teams that lose. That's all. And come on, if I was a bandwagon fan, I wouldn't have this screen name. And I meant no disrespect, I just didn't care to be insulted.

  • @highwater03 The Rockets actually went 5-1 versus the Bulls from '90-'91 through '92-'93, winning by double-digits four times, and by '93-'94, Houston had improved, adding Sam Cassell and Mario Elie to its bench and enjoying the growth of second-year forward Robert Horry.

  • @joekiddlouischama

In the NBA Finals? Didn't think so.

  • @highwater03 No, not in the NBA Finals, because the Bulls (with or without Jordan) couldn't GET to the Finals in '94 or '95. Orlando saw to that. And yes, Jordan was at full ability, they just lost. Period.

  • @HoustonRules

How do you know the Bulls couldn't get there with or without him? All you know is that they didn't get there without him, you don't know that they wouldn't have with him.

  • @highwater03 Yeah, I should have written that better. I meant they couldn't do it with him in '95. The Rockets MIGHT have beaten the Bulls in '94 too--Hakeem WAS the MVP. And remember, after the conclusion of the '95 Finals, Bob Costas commented that Jordan's return nonwithstanding, Hakeem was the best player in the league.

  • man i miss the NBA on NBC and the music

  • Shaq was not the player Hakeem was. Shaq was a limited player who was effective on offense because of his tremendous size. Defensively, Shaq was not on the level of an Hakeem or David Robinson because Shaq couldn't move very well, though he did move well for someone of his size.

If you're going to use an argument about Shaq winning titles, then you'd have to put Duncan above Shaq because Duncan has won four as the man on his team.

  • Muse4life05, Not winning a championship does NOT mean one is less of a player. I hate that excuse. Hakeem is a better overall player than Shaq. He can actually shoot from more than 10 feet away, including free throws. I know you don't mean Kobe is the greatest player ever. You're just kidding.

  • Muse4life 05 you must be out of your mind to say that Shaq is better than Olajuwon. Shaq won his championships in an era that lacked dominant big men. Olajuwon played against the likes of a David Robinson and Patrick Ewing during his era and he also schooled shaq and d-rob in the 1995 NBA Playoffs. Kobe is nowhere near the level that Michael Jordam attained. Jordan never lost in the finals and would never let his team lose by 40 points in the nba finals game.

  • By the way...thanks for posting this! I get chills just hearing the old NBA theme. The good 'ol days of the NBA...(sigh).

  • Damn those were the good ole days. I miss NBA on NBC. Anything passed '05 has been terrible. Ever since Shaq departed the Lakers, the league hasn't been the same. I'm a Lakers fan and I'm happy how my club is doing right now, but I think most of the teams suck right now.

  • everyone knows how this series ended.

    Smooches.

    XOXO.

  • NBC's storytelling of basketball was awesome......there must be something wrong with David Stern for leaving NBC

  • There is. It's called profit. Stern left NBC because he wanted to pursue a deal that made more money to the league than what NBC had done. ESPN's first contract w/ the NBA in 2002 was at 6 seasons, worth nearly $5 billion. And then, Stern chose to resign w/ ESPN in 2007, and the new contract will last until 2016. As long as ESPN continues to be the sports monopoly by buying and ruining various TV contracts, and as long as Stern continues to benefit, we won't see the NBA on NBC until he leaves.

  • NBC would have been better if it weren't for Isiah and Vescey-I couldn't STAND those two-Marv was great ofcourse as were Walton and Doug Collins.

  • Isiah only announced for one season though and then he was just in the halftime crew. I think Magic was a worse announcer. But I think the worst analyist NBC ever had was Pat Croce in 2002! I could not stand that dude he should have stayed with the 76ers. Philadelphia never felt the same when he left, and I couldn't stand having to watch him on TV.

  • First the Jazz choked to Houston, and then the Suns absolutely gagged. The Suns had a gun to the head of the Rockets and they somehow missed! That Choke job ranks as a top 10 gagger! Up three to one with a chance to finish it at home and they lose TWICE at home(Phoenix didn't even show up for Game 6) The signature playoff failure of Barkley's Career. THen he went to Houston thinking that would do the trick and they were done in by the Jazz in both 1997 and 1998

  • nba on ABC is the worse ever..nothing tops nba on NBC nothing.

  • this music is genuine, nbc sellouts, nothing can top nbc, tnt, nor espn. luvd barkely, olajuwon, shawn kemp before he had 10 baby mommas and all that other personal shit, gary the glove payton,

clyde drexler david admiral robinson, dan majerle. tim hardaway cmt, chris and mitch.

  • Can anyone put all these games?

  • The best players after Bird, Magic and Jordan was Barkley and Hakeem by far!

  • 1st of of all Barkley is a

Top 10 EFF Player of All Time

Top 9 Season Season PER Player of All Time

Top 7 Season Play-Off PER Player of All Time

Where is Kobe? Nowhere. Only Barkley and Jordan are found in both the Top 10 EFF and PER departament. Get Real Kobe is Hardly a Top 30 Player Ever. Look at the PER and EFF departartments and they confirm what I say. By the way Shaq got never owned Hakeem in his Prime. In fact Shaq could not even Guard Hakeem in his Prime :) 1995

  • Hakeem would not dominate the post like Shaq would???!! Did you not watch the 95 Finals? The Rockets swept the Magic out of the Finals. Hakeem...all-time leading shot blocker in the league, he made Robinson his b**ch in the Western Conference Finals. Strength is not necessarily a sign of total domination, Hakeem did it with finesse and skill. I don't remember any centers that could ever stop him...can you??

  • Shaq got swept by Hakeem's Rockets buddy in 95. Did you not know that?

  • Hakeem swept Shaq in the finals during his prime, Shaq won 3 in a row in his prime, its an empty argument...

  • you don't know basketball.. you're ignorant muselife

  • Well, can you please explain why I'm ignorant instead of you just stating something without meaning.

  • Classic... pure classic

  • Wow, I remember this game. What a finish! But hey, the Suns had their chance in game 5 to finish them off. LEading late in the game, Barkley missed a critical free throw near the end of regulation and Wesley Person missed a three at the buzzer and the Rockets took it from there and never looked back. What a great postseason.

  • The Suns-Rockets playoff series in 94 & 95 were some of the best ever

  • TNT ABC or whatever should buy this music. was the best by far. Created an electric atmosphere

  • Why even have a rulebook?

  • This was such a great series.

The rockets just didn't give up.

  • Dream was the best!

  • The best was when DREAM schooled the admiral in the next series.

  • You're absolutely correct. That performance was awesome. I meant Dream was the best Rocket player of all time in my previous post.

  • Greg Gumbel, Marv Albert, Tom Hammond or Dick Enberg would provide the NBA's best telecast on NBC...if NBC were to get the NBA back, Costas would host the studio show, with Peter Vecsey and maybe Scottie Pippen and Tom Tolbert, with Tom Hammond and Doug Collins as the #3 team, Al Michaels, Bill Walton and Steve Jones as the #2 team, and Marv Albert and Matt Guokas as the #1 team again.

  • The enduring image from this game was the fan holding up the sign "Good Night Charles"

  • this was a profetic intro, it marked my life as a sports fan y love phoenix suns and wish barkley would have won, every time they miss a field goal I felt a knife on my chest, and this intro made it harder. love the NBA on NBC, miss all those guys. I hate Mario Elie!!

  • Incase u ain't know who is my favorite team of all time...check out my youtube name...

  • KISS of DEAAAAAAAAAAAATH!!!! Damn i miss that NBA on NBC intro. Props to John Tesh!!

  • The only reason to watch the abomination that is The NBA on ESPN on ABC is Bill Walton.

TNT's just about the only watchable network.

  • @dnowitzki Can't believe John Tesh wrote that. :)

  • nba today is way better than back then. hands up!

  • Man I remember watching this game. I was really mad when the Suns lost. Barkley was and still is my favorite. I figured 1995, would be Chucks year, after the Bulls got eliminated by Orlando. Phoenix was up 3 games to 1, and still lost. Oh well.

  • I remember this Playoff weekend, Houston beat Phoenix and Indiana finally New York the next dday

  • you are so right

  • I miss NBA on NBC...ABC is sewage

  • I agree 200%

  • i love the nba back in the 90'.. now nba sucks

  • NBC used to make me feel like I was about to witness a battle. ABC makes me feel like I'm about to watch a Jessica Simpson video.

  • I, honestly, don't know what they're thinking with that PCD crap they put on there.

What happened to catering to the target audience, especially for a kid who grew up watching part of the golden age of basketball with Jordan?

Then again, maybe it's just as well, as the product of the NBA is WAY, WAY down from when Magic, Bird and Jordan were playing. Hell, even former Blazer Jerome Kersey once said that players today need to be babied.

  • @HuskerFanatic check out the YouTube video for "2007 NBA on CBS" or something like that. You'll realize that if they had that music now, it would make today's basketball watchable at least.

  • kiss of death biatch!!!!!!!

  • Sweet Memories

  • Let's not kid ourselves, the quality of the NBA has slid right along with its coverage, comprising a queasy correlation. With a few exceptions (notably Phoenix), today's game is far more mechanical, robotic, and stagnant.

  • Yeah, ABC is crap, and ESPN is getting to become the same way. Mike Breen, Mark Jackson, and Jeff Van Gundy were so irritating to listen to. TNT does a much better job. ABC needs to clean it up a little bit, and maybe try and pump the fans up a little more, they just have a very boring presentation.

  • There's another pet peeve I have with ABC/ESPN. Mike Breen is your lead announcer? VERY weak.

I'd like to hear the game actually described, not Mike Breen sounding like Emeril Lagasse after every 3 point shot.

  • And Jeff Van Gundy spends more time talking about other shit than actually analyzing the game he's calling.

  • Go Celts-

We played the 62 win SA Spurs, and won in six (which will be forever remembered as the series where Hakeem took Robinson to school that whole series), and then swept Orlando in the Finals.

Agree the NBA is fine. ABC does blow ass though.

  • who did the rockets have to play in the wcf after they won? also the league is great today and has been since about 2003 season/2003 draft especially since pistons 04 title and had a down year this year in east and finals but is on the right track been great last 4 years. last years playoffs (06) were unreal..... abc sucks though nbc knows how to do it right.

  • NBA is shit today because DanielStern doesn't know where to put NBA coverage. HE PUT THE FUCKING ALL-STAR GAME ON TNT! And besides, ABC/ESPN is SHIT!

  • @Cnickfan56 The NBA commish is DAVID Stern. DANIEL Stern is the actor from Home Alone (he played Marv the burglar). But thanks--you gave me a heck of a chuckle imagining Daniel Stern as the commisioner. :)

  • Tears...every time. The "Kiss of Death" game. Thank you SO much.

    CLUTCH CITY FOR ALL TIME!

I WANT MY NBA BACK ON NBC!!!!! Can someone PLEASE contact David Stern and tell him that the PCD aren't doing it for us?

  • sorry the nba just sined a 8 year extension with abc i no man i also want him 2 die

  • Agreed. Stern needs to just GO AWAY.

  • look at this and look t the shit the leag has 2day

  • i remember this game so well.
