  • wers the burning

  • something may be very wrong here; notice that the sound begins BEFORE her bow starts moving. It's possible though that the sound and video are slightly out of synch..?

  • YES. The video was just fine for almost a year and then this problem emerged, the same problem that is plaguing thousands of YouTube videos. The company remains silent about the problem! I will have to repost the video anew. It would be a shame to lose all of these nice compliments so I might just keep both videos going, but tag this faulty version and direct everyone to the repaired version. In a few days I hope to have this reposted and I do hope you will check out and enjoy the fixed video.

  • beautiful

  • Five stars!

  • Pei-Wen performed in Japan June 9 and 10 with the New York Asian Symphony Orchestra. She is now touring Taiwan, the country of her birth. Thank you for your compliment.

  • that invension shuld be world famus its esy and it sounds like a real orchestra you shuld do it to a big thing wow

  • this so good! i love this piece (meditation) so relaxing

  • @artreritvioli Maybe that's why they call it "Meditation" (:

  • Stunning performance.

  • god, that was good. i've heard many "talents" and "virtuoso"s on youtube playing the violin. but she's real. she reminds me of when I was younger. Its refreshing after the many mediocre "talents" on here. She's like a breath of fresh air. Bravo, and good luck!

  • I agree. I'm sick of show parents pushing their 8 year olds to play Bruch badly, just so they can upload it on youtube with the title 'child prodigy'. This girl I could listen to all day.

  • Very nice, great tone and fluidity, but it is kind of heavy, Thais Meditation should be played with more gentleness and not as much gusto, but then again, everyone plays it that way. Thumbs up for being different and making the piece your own

  • incredible.

  • When I hear a young girl play so beautifully like this, it puts a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes...

  • =) I'll let you know if i post any of my music on here and good luck to you both aswell. I'll check out your website!! =)

  • Pretty damn good, Tip for Violinist: Try to put more enphasis on the emotion of the song, try researching the origin of it etc :) Its sounding very good, especially for a 14 year old girl with a couple of days notice!! :P :) Keep up the playing!! :)

  • Welcome to our new 14-year-old friend from the UK, Marthaaah. Thanks for your comments.

I must take full blame for the lack of emotion. As a popular-music accompanist this was my first attempt at classical music. A few weeks ago, while rehearsing for our performance at Carnegie Hall, Pei Wen coached me into a more expressive performance. She must have succeeded because we played the same two pieces and we had a very enthusiastic response.

Do you play? Tell us more about you.

  • It was a very good first attempt at classical music =) I'm sure you played very well both of you at your second performance, particularly after a little coaching in emotional playing.

I do play music yes. My main instruments are the Flute and the Piano, but i can also play the guitar, violin, bass guitar etc, not particularly well, but i like to have fun with it =) I hope my previous comment was useful =)

  • Thank you, Marthaaah. Please let us know when you post any of your playing. I agree with you. Playing from "the heart" is probably more important than playing technically correct. Good luck in your music studies. Check my website listed above for much more music, etc.

  • I believe that too. Still an amazing performance, regardless of emotion(imo, is the icing on the cake;p)

  • 4:26

insane note i can barely play in 5th position without screwing the heck up.

    wonderfull job

    truly amazing

  • Pei Wen and I performed these two pieces on June 10 at Carnegie Hall. As I needed a few minutes to set up Pei Wen filled the time with an impromptu introduction of me and my keyboard invention. What a pro! She will be appearing in Boston at Waterfront Park on June 28 and again in the North End on July 26. However, these times she will be accompanied not by myself, but with the entire 48 piece Air Force Band of Liberty. Open to the public and free. Come see her.

  • IS GOOD

  • That's inspiring. Especially her confidence, since she only had a couple days to learn the music and no rehearsal time. Wow. The first piece is absolutely beautiful (and what a cool accordion thing!), and bravo on the czardas piece! (it's challenging!) Keep up the great work! =)

  • perfect! she did a wonderful job, and there are no mistakes, even to a critical ear. knowing she only had a few days to prepare, makes it even more astounding.

  • Wow, Pei Wen is really good. She exemplifies the most incredible feeling and emotion in her virtuostic artistry. I wish I could play the viola as well as she. How long has she been playing for?

  • Pei Wen began her violin studies at the age of five. At age nine she was the youngest person to win first prize in the Taipei Music Competition. Many other prizes and awards soon followed.

I have been amazed at her maturity, her sight-reading ability, and the passion she imparts to her instrument. There will soon be more Pei Wen videos including a long solo cadenza with breathtaking, completely independent sounding double stops - Ray

  • That was just incredible.

  • Well Ray, you finally made me cry! I have heard many violinists play this piece but never with this amount of power and feeling. I place her at the level of Menuhin and Heifetz... and they are my favorites. Peiwen will become one of the greats if she is not already there now. Can we here more of her? How about producing and album featuring her and you? She deserves t own a Strad. God bless her.

  • Thanks, Phil, for your compliments! I will make sure Peiwen sees your remarks. The Chi Mei museum in Taiwan specializes in extraordinary stringed instruments. When Peiwen was "discovered" at ten years of age, they loaned her this exceptional violin. Piewen takes very good care of it.

  • WONDERFUL !!!! Brilliant !!!

  • Thanks for your comments. I promise more Pei Wen videos to come!

  • Yes, I promise she will get any written music in advance. Pei Wen lives in New York and I, near Boston. We got together just an hour or so before concert time. I brought music with me, but I thought she already had her own. Isn't she amazing? She took the music and finished memorizing it in that short time.

  • omg she's sooo gooood

  • She has a very intense feeling for being 14 years old. Technically without problems. Very musical...keep going like this and you will arrive far. Congrats!

  • Wonderful!! Such musicality!!!

  • You are really great!!!!!

  • Wow! Sounds just like the pro! Incredible violin performance!

  • This is so amazing!!!!

  • P.S.

The "Cavichord" is one of the greatest musical inventions...!!!

  • WOW!!!!!! This is really awesome...and gosh, I can say I was there...:)

Pei-Wen's musicality has all the ingredients to form a great violinist, and she just doesn't fear anything the moment she grabs that bow!

    All the best...

    SR

  • this is wonderful!!! 5*****

  • Bravo!

Great musicality and would like to see more...

    Who is your teacher?

  • Peiwen came to the US from Taiwan at age ten. Her first teachers here were Ann Setzer and Sally Thomas. She is now studying with Steven Clapp (former Dean of Music at Julliard). In June she will perform with the New Jersey Symphony at Avery Fisher Hall (Lincoln Center), then at Carnegie Hall where we will again perform these two pieces. I had better get to practicing so I will not embarrass us too badly. Peiwen has seen this video on YouTube and thanks everyone for their comments.-Ray Cavicchio

  • Wish you both have great success in the coming performances and can't wait to see this rising star shines...

  • omg!!! I can't believe you know her.....so a question...does Julliard accept students of all ages?

  • Juilliard accepts students from age 7 till high school age for the Pre-College division.

  • wow this was amazing
