Nope, he didn't kill his friend to get the mangekyou power, we still don't know how, but he just don't have that mangekyou. Btw, the regular mangekyou power is tsukuyomi, with your emotional powers amaterasu, and when you got them both you can get the third mangekyou power: susano'o
