If you don't understand how badly conducted Wakefield's study actually was, then you do not have enough of an understanding of the scientific process to chime in on anything.

He had a vested interested interest in the out come of his original MMR study, and one, it must be added, that established absolutely no link between MMR and Autism. This was just something Wakefield asserted at a press confernence.

APart from other unethical practices, when he and his associates first published his MMR/GI inflammation paper he did not divulge his association with the Tort firm. And at a press conference he did suggest that MMR was related to autism, even though he and his collegues' research established no such thing.

I know that that charge was deemed 'proven' but it was demolished at the GMC by the actual evidence, from what I can see.

The Lancet editor knew well before publication that Wakefield was involved with Dawbarns (sp?). Horton had even eidted a letter warning him 'Litigation bias Might Exist'.

In the last day there have been tremendous changes in this story. Olbermann, RETRACTED his  worst person status on Wakefield, put it on Brian Deer, TIMES, a R. Murdoch paper. Keith knows better.Wakefield is NOT anti-vaccine, and steadfastly claims he did not lie at all on this. Wyeth, maker of MMR shot has falsified date and hidden bad results to get Vioxx on the market. 50,000 people died. Wakefield and most of his ilk want SAFER vaccines, not none at all. I'm with them.

It's about time the U.S. news started shining light on Andrew Wakefield. He is very controversial in the UK; giving children unnecessary colon biopsies and lumbar punctures. The British General Medical Council (GMC) is investigating him for suppressing and falsifying research data, (he also hide that he was paid £400,000 by the attorneys responsible for the MMR lawsuit). He fled the UK and is now practicing his 'craft' on kids in Austin TX at a place called "Thoughtful House".
