  • I miss spreading.. I <3 policy debate

  • THIS is really really slow.

    It gets much faster

  • this is slow....

  • These guys are the reason why I was scared to shower after gym class.. They are beasts!

  • This isn't communication.

These are students who's goal is to win because they ran 30 arguments.

If you want to watch a real policy debate...come to the homeschool league called Stoa.

  • These guys sound straight up, fuckin' retarded.

  • As an MC and songwriter, the only person who actually made rhythmic sense was the really nerdy kid with the white shirt...the rest have terrible placement and pronunciation...I know its not all about that but it helps

  • For all of you idiots whom "brag" about you're spreading superiority. May I point out, In a policy debate, it's not the speed of you're spreading that guarantees you victory, but the quality of your debate and how you uphold and defend your case to your optimal potential. And besides, spreading doesn't even matter if you can't even defend your own case and contentions.

  • Oh my God. A bunch of debaters debating on YouTube. This is just too dangerous.

  • @TheCBack You mean I have to practice to understand what some of tbe best public speakers in our country are saying?...?....hmm....

  • Do I really want to be debater, and make my life more confusing than it already is?

  • Spreading and spewing is wrong. We should learn good speaking skills to have better debates.

  • @daminkymonkey actually those lexington debaters got to the finals of the TOC last year...

  • is it weird that my first reaction is "those kids are breathing too much"? It's slowing them down and it's poor technique. this isn't good debating or spreading

  • The time kids put on their papers is impressive, but the things is, this is a DEBATE, not a talking contest to see who can say the most words, were supposed to see who has better information, and who can argue better. If people cannot understand what people are saying in a debate, then is it a debate?

    Lincoln Douglas Debater.

  • @TimidManiacs - Everyone within the community can understand them and, if you actually try, you can learn to understand it too. It just takes practice. Also, the spreading aspect allows for more arguments to be made creating more clash and, overall, better debate.

  • @TheCBack Do you not know what a debate is? I have been a debater for my highschool for about two years now, and debate is not see who has more arguments, but who have the best arguments. 95% of people I bet cannot understand a word they just said. How would you react to Hillary Clinton speaking lightning fast to Obama Bush, just to get "More arguements."

  • @TimidManiacs For a debater, your writing is deplorable.

  • @DistortedV12

Haha yeah, because you know a good debater can't spell check when it's important.

  • My god, it doesn't even sound like words

  • no offense... but these kids actually kinda suck...

  • MARKOFFFFFFFF

  • lol at the people who say "POLICY IS ALL ABOUT TAKING IN LOGIC AND REASONING". I dare you try to get by in society speaking like this in any environment, you'll be laughed off the stage within seconds.

  • @jivetome

I did, at a policy debate tournament. It is an environment; is it not?

In any case, you need to calm down. This isn't forensics. Weighing arguments is much more effective in life than lying through your teeth and not of the cards.

I also love how you counter an argument with something completely unrelated, now that, my friend, will get you laughed off of the stage.

  • This is retarted

  • @V61Sunda agreed. What's the point. :)

  • Hes not even fast, if you cant understand him you need to go back to school.

  • Spreading is fudmentally a stupid practice within the debating community, In real life if you tried this, people would laugh at you, and dismiss you, you do not see members of any legislature in the world doing this, so don't do it. Make better arguments not spreading ones. If this is around when I have kids I would rather them have sex with dirty sluts then do this

  • @General8675 Hmm, maybe to save time. High schoolers don't have 10 years to discuss the implementation of a new policy. They have to go to their 8 hours/day gov't training camp and need to be able to get in all of their arguments. That is why they spread.

  • Aaaaand this is exactly why I will never do policy. I'm in debate to improve my public peaking skills and my presentation skills in general, because those skills are important for later in my life. Policy teaches you none of this. By speaking so quickly, yes, you may win a policy competition, but you will never win the hearts and minds of normal people who you will actually speak to in, perhaps, a future career. Policy skills do not translate into skills used in real life.

  • @tjitske654 the point of debate is not to learn to speak its to learn logic and to learn about the topic. Debating slower means taking in less information, making it less educational.

You are conflating speech events and debate events. If you specifically want to learn how to make presentations and such, you should probably quit debate and try doing speech. When you see Presidential "Debates" those aren't actual debates, just Question and Answer sessions, kind of like certain speech events.

  • @PKNproductions I do both speech and debate. And I think the amount of knowledge taken in at LD v. Policy is about the same because Policy stays on the same subject for a whole year. Policy goes deeper, but there's no variety. In LD, you get a wider range of information because the topic changes more often. Also, slower debate is often a way of improving persuasion skills. You can't persuade anyone of anything going at 100 mph.

  • @tjitske654

In depth is good. It allows you to learn more about the world in one topic, than in hundreds of mildly in-depth persuasive speeches. Political disads and regular disads force you to potentially argue for every current political topic on the planet. Also, topicality is limitless. Often considered useless but has many practical uses in real life where you have to argue by the book. Mostly in law, which is what many policy debaters turn to after highschool/college.

  • @tjitske654

Yes they do. I hope you brush up on your logical thinking skills and come to the conclusion that close observation of factual information is beneficial. The speed that we go at has the advantage of rehearsing the knowledge we apply two fold.

  • @sasuke2277 Okay, you learn factual information. But you repeat said factual information over and over and over again for a whole debate season. You could learn just as much useful information with debate like LD, because you have to understand philosophies at a very deep level. And the topic actually changes, hence a wider range of information. Also, logical thinking is common in all types of debate.

  • @tjitske654

Okay, some cards are repeated. What does it matter? With the amount cards we actually have to pick and choose from and the fact that what the other team brings up is different every time, we evidently end up learning more evidence. LD debaters aren't even required to read off their evidence. They basically say: "Here's our 5 page article, have fun!" There isn't much evidence that comes out at all.

  • Is this really how Policy works? Whoa.

  • little rock, arkansas is worse then this!!

  • @Futbol7kid Your loss.

  • LOL! I'm a novice and have been debating for about 1 month.

I can spread faster than this hahahahahaha

  • @DominatingNA there are many debaters on the circuit that can fly through speeches at 500 words per minute but lose many rounds because their reasoning lacks substance. the lexington team in this video (Arjun Vellayappan and Tyler Engler) got to the finals of the Tournament of Champions of 2011, which is widely regarded as the most prestigious tournament in the nation. If your reasoning is good, then that's great for you. but speed should not be everything

  • @jj96kim I never said that speed was everything. Of course you must speak with substance. If I'm not mistaken, Westminister won the 2011 TOC. They are all trained to speak fast (which is one of their greatest assets). I'm just saying that spreading is important, and that I can actually spread a bit faster than some of these people.

  • That's why i do LD, policy is just a waste of time and breath

  • @MrDjac10

Nope, you do LD because it's offered at your school.

  • He is not fast at all, the novices at my school spread at this speed by the first three weeks of the class.

  • @Storm0Wolf

    Lol, bullshit.

  • @Storm0Wolf I agree I was one of the slowest novices on my team and i can spread faster than this

  • these guys have to be the WORST sounding nerds ever. SERIOUSLY it is not that fast that you need ur INHALER

  • when i saw this, i switched out of debate

  • All of them: d;flaskjdf;kjskfjsldkjfalskjdflaksdjlfkjsdfaosidfuqlndfa

  • That first kid was slow as hell

  • It's still wrong. Stop sinning.

  • People should stop talking about them. We all have our own activities and not everyone was born to play sports or do other things. It's called policy debate and i LOVE it!

  • sounds like a bunch of fags bichin about somethin ???? they sound like a bunch of assholes

  • Bin making will become an art form. The most intricate bins with the best combination of bin and tape and political bumper stickers will be judged.

Art museums will be built to display these bins. People will come from all over the world to reflect on the intentions of the bin makers. They will study the bins to see what kind of debater made the bins. The bin represents the life of the debater. How much sacrifice he has put into his craft of debate. This is the future.

  • Perhaps a chunk of the exploded Earth will be sent careening off out of the Sol system. This chunk of Earth will happen to crash into a planet hundreds of light years away. This planet will inhabited with life similar to your own.

The chunk of the Earth will send this planet into a nuclear winter which it will never recover from. Not only did you destroy Earth, you destroyed another civilization. Thanks. I'm from this civilization, I am an alien from the future sent to warn you. Stop this now!

  • Soon the entire world will be destroyed by the effects of the sounds of Policy Debate. The sound waves will create resonance in the earths mantle and core. The sound waves will become infinitely recursive and the world will tear itself apart.

Thanks a lot Policy Debate. You've destroyed the Earth with your ridiculousness.

  • Lets become even more ridiculous. Each team will bring a PA system powered with the loudest speakers and amplifiers money can buy. The team with the loudest screamer combined with the loudest sound system will win.

A decibel reader will become the judge. This will be much more efficient since the judging will take far less time.

Special stadiums will have to be constructed to withstand the sounds of the screams.

  • Perhaps this is how the art of spreading came to be. You think that by making yourself more foolish you are in fact making yourself more intimidating to the other team.

Just go up to the podium and do a high pitched scream at the top of your lungs. You have spreaded so fast that it has become just a loud sound. Policy debate will become a screaming contest. The team with the person who can scream the loudest will win.

  • Are you guys this careless with your bins or do you throw them around on purpose to make it look like you're more "tough" than the other team? Is this some form of manipulation? The more tape and cracks in your bins makes the other team think you are crazier than them?

Think about it. Maybe make a bin entirely out of duct tape. Form a bin from duct tape. This is the ultimate bin. It means all plastic has been replaced with tape. Think about it.

  • You really should just make the topic every year "Is policy debate useful?"

  • Comment removed

  • Policy Debate: It's like trying to prove why you should perform surgery before you're even sure what the problem is! "Ehhh, it turns out it wasn't your kidney that was causing the problem... sorry... we made some guesses before doing it and then argued amongst ourselves before doing so at least? I know we could have run some more tests but this is speed debate baby, we aint got time for that! Now we've decided it MAY be your other kidney *puts on gas mask*" -Literally You

  • These guys aren't even fast. Trying searching "debate spreading" and see what comes up. THOSE guys are fast.

  • i challenge anyone hear that supports this form of debate to actually transcribe any of this unintelligible BS. i'm sure these guys are incredibly smart, but speed reading from cards is a waste of time when an intelligent listener cannot comprehend the entirely of your statement.

let's see some transcriptions - then i'll buy this as legitimate debate!

  • This is really bad spreading. High school debate is amazing, though, and no one should be putting it down.

  • This is fuckin stupid. Training the worlds next politicians, "outsmarting the team by speaking so fast the can't keep up" thats like omitting facts. And the asthma sounding inhales at the end of each line are just sad to watch.

  • @samthegodlike Take a look at the extensive research policy debaters put in. Then tell me it's "fuckin stupid."

  • @linkedbythecloud Its fuckin' stupid.

  • @linkedbythecloud Okay: it's "fucking stupid". If you are going to distort speech to such crazy extents you might as well discard the speech element altogether. God, they sounds as if they are having paroxysms on the floor.

  • @samthegodlike I debate and got full ride to Northern Iowa, where both Machelle Obama and the Dalai Lama have given commencement speeches. Oh, and Ira Slomsky Pritz, the first speaker in this video, goes to Yale. Fucking stupid now? I didn't think so either.

  • @kj762aa Good job naming off politicians, your fucking stupid. And debate is fucking stupid.

  • @samthegodlike When was the last time you or anybody got a rap scholarship, I your videos aren't bad at all, but compared to debate rap is a race to nowhere. I can end the conversation here knowing that the most intelligent comeback you'll have to anything that I say is as you would say, "fucking stupid". Furthermore, I sense your inability to express yourself in any way other than with vocabulary brandished from the cesspool of literary study, and this really isn't worthy of my time.

  • @kj762aa McNally College of Music look it up. I don't have a comeback, just my opinion. The fact that you believe you have the right to deem whats worthy and what isn't of your precious time shows me someday you'll be a great person. Most likely rich or famous for some obscure reason yet famous all the same and it will all be because you see nothing wrong with stepping on other people as long as you gain something. Have a good life becoming something everyone will one day hate.

  • @samthegodlike I sure as hell will. The fact that nobody told you that the ladder of success was actually the lives you'll walk over in the clamor to the top baffles me.

  • @kj762aa If you think walking on other people is the only way to have success in life, you "baffle" me.

  • @samthegodlike You clearly don't understand the point of debate. The intention of spreading isn't to "outsmart the team by speaking so fast they can't keep up." That's just stupid, and whoever said it is wrong. The point is to get in the most information in the least time possible. You clearly aren't intelligent enough to do debate, so please stop bashing it.

  • @TheRealChrisAllen Chris, there is no intelligence involved in this. It's pretty much just a bunch of Jedi Mind Tricks. This may help you win in debate but in the real world when dealing with real issues its a pointless waste of time. The only thing it does is make you good at being manipulative. You really take pride in being manipulative? You can think and fill in gaps all you want but the outcome is about as useful as flipping a coin. You can't predict the future.

  • @TheRealChrisAllen Cold hard facts are the only thing that really matter in a real life debate in the real world. If you think that filling in gaps with logical fallacies (known as Philosophy) is going to help solve the issue you're greatly mistaken. This whole act is just a practice ground for people to get good at proving their points with nothing other than the way they form their sentences. That is not truth. Its manipulation.

  • @TheRealChrisAllen I really wanna know... is this just intellectual gymnastics.. or do you actually think this is useful in real life for solving an issue? I honestly believe this kind of thought process is what is really holding the world back. Things are not black and white, there are many shades of gray in between. Just cause you win a debate doesn't mean a policy will work. So if the solution was destined to fail to begin with the whole debate was a waste of time, it didn't solve anything.

  • @TheRealChrisAllen Don't you see the problem with Top-Down argument process? You automatically assume that a policy is the correct thing to do, and debating it and playing word games will somehow magically make it work? This is the problem with our policy making. You need to develop ideas from the bottom-up, using facts and limited if any logical leaps. This is the only way to truly make a policy that works. Otherwise its just fancy guesswork based on word games.

  • @TheRealChrisAllen So tell me, is this just a simple way to make you feel smarter and win arguments where there is in reality no clear winner other than the fact that you made your opponent submit? I really fail to see how you could think that this is a good idea. Its manipulation plain and simple. If that's your end goal.. fine, but I'm sick of seeing this archaic thought process used in our actual government. Its sickening. The country is too polarized to work properly anymore.

  • this is soo scary

  • wow these kids are horrible...waiting for someone to yell CLEAR

  • @XCLSUIVEPAIN what do you mean? They sounded like they were doing fine.

  • @XCLSUIVEPAIN you probably just suck at listening lol

  • The real question is, why is there a video in the "related videos" section called "how to make perfect gravy"?

  • This is dumb, whats the point of saving all that time. Also it's super hard to understand them and they sound like they're having sex or something, with all that breathing.

  • @Magnumxl711 its to get as much out as possible , and the judges understand them . this really isnt for just random people , its for legit debaters . also it makes it harder for the other team to attack your points if they cant keep up with what you say

  • You won't be able to understand what they're saying when the video shows them talking for all of half a sentence per clip (with no context provided as to what they're talking about) REGARDLESS of how fast or slow they're talking.

  • GO LEX DEBATE!!!!

  • I do most Debate styles, except for Policy. I hate policy, even when they're speaking like human beings.

This? This is a fucking joke. There is no real world practical application of this mindless skill at all. You will never use it, and it's pointless. Parliamentary and Public forum are more fun, and you actually have to think on your feet and *gasp* improvise? WITHOUT 4 tubs of every fact known to man? Inconceivable...

  • @Mewstor151 Okay so you obviously know next to nothing about debate if you think that PF is a viable event. Parli is fun though(:

  • @hellogoodbye194 lmfao. parli fails. LD is the only legit type of debate. and my school rapes at it. Most TOC bids in the country right now.

  • @Mewstor151 true story i did policy for 3 years now im doing puff so much more fun and so much more challenging

  • @Mewstor151 I barely use any files in Policy and I do fine.

If you are actually really good at debate, you can outsmart the other team without needing evidence. However, in some debates, a bit of evidence is necessary

For the record, I'm nationally competitive. I'm from Edgemont.

  • @PKNproductions are you a critical debater?

  • Um. FYI. They're not rapping. It's a debate style called "Policy Debate".

  • @IvoryFloralia Or Lincoln-Douglas, I'm an LDer and we spread quite a bit.

  • literally lol. like LOL. LOLOLOL. these kidz know how to have a good time. catch ya on the side flip

    Hi IRa

  • That kid went to MNDI! woot

  • This is very bizzare. What is this supposed to be?

  • wtf?!?!?!

  • @cubsrule123 just because you don't understand the activity doesn't mean you should post silly shit...

  • So freaking bizarre !!!

  • The guy sitting at the end is falling asleep!? Chicago Trib. no wonder you guys are going bankrupt!! We want quality reporting!!! NOT!!! A bunch of suburban kids trying to rap like Lil Wayne!!

  • @newbalancerun04 it's funny how ignorant you are to what they're actually doing

  • wtf is the point of this shit they look retarted
